Laura told Sun Travel: “I’ve always travelled and have been around the UK with my parents from an early age.
“We’ve always been into travelling and exploring different places. In fact, when I was nine my mum and dad got a caravan.
“We would always go away every weekend to a different place in the UK. And then we started venturing further afield, taking it over to Europe.”
Laura reveals some of her fondest memories were going to Cornwall, when she and her parents went camping.
She said: “I used to love going on those holidays and my parents would do rounders competitions.
“All the parents and kids would get together on the camping sites and we’d play rounders and have barbecues.
“There was a sense of freedom that came with camping holidays. We’d be able to get on our bikes and go and explore.”
Laura who presents Channel 4 show that helps Brits find their dream property abroad, still loves to go away to the tropics or spend time in the Mediterranean.
But she also still travels all over the UK, recently spending time in Padstow for a staycation.
She also stayed in the West Sussex countryside at a rustic retreat with an outdoor campfire and barbecue.

Laura she credits her parents for “instilling independence” in her, especially as she took off to Portugal for her first solo holiday the day after her GCSE results when she was 16 years old.
And as a parent to two children, Rocco and Tahlia, Laura says that she has a new appreciation for her mum and dad letting her go on her own.
She added: “It’s hard as a parent when you realise your kids are growing up and they want to go explore.
“I don’t have any shadow of a doubt my kids are going to be like that. They’ve grown up exploring and travelling with me since they were three weeks old.”

Her kids have also enjoyed a UK break or two. Laura said: “We’ve done all sorts of holiday from motorhome, caravan and glamping sites – they love it.
“I think they like going for the same reason that I did, the sense of freedom and adventure.”
Travel presenter Laura is also embarking on a new project of her own. She’s collating all of her travel stories and tips on her podcast ‘Mile Fly Club’ which is about to return for a second series.

The most beautiful town in the UK is official… with award winning brewery and is 14-minutes from top beach
LEWES in East Sussex has been named the UK’s ‘prettiest town’ and its not hard to see why.
The town has winding streets, historical architecture, an award-winning brewery and stunning views of the South Downs.
![Lewes Castle in Sussex, UK, overlooking houses and trees.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/fb5j5n-lewes-castle-sussex-uk-967829705.jpg?strip=all&w=960)

Anyone wanting a day trip to the south should add the beautiful town of Lewes to the list.
The Telegraph has named it the UK’s ‘prettiest town’, but the beautiful scenery is not all it has to offer.
Along with award-winning pubs, Lewes also has its own brewery.
Harvey’s regularly runs tours around the factory, so any keen brewer can learn about the brewing process and of course, sample their beers and ales.
Harvey’s has won numerous awards from CAMRA recognition to the International Beer Challenge and the World Beer Awards. It’s popular in town too with local pubs and restaurants.
Keeping up with their heritage, their drinks are still delivered to the local pubs by dray horses.
So if you visit on a Tuesday, you might spot them delivering through the town on a horse-drawn carriage.
Harvey’s Brewery shop is in the town too, where you can pick up some bottles to take home.
One of the special local pubs is The Swan Inn, it’s a great place to grab a pint, especially if the sun is shining as you can go and sit out in the beautiful garden.
The pub garden is not only a great place to relax, but it sits on the Greenwich Meridian, the invisible border which divides the world into east and west.

One woman wrote on TripAdvisor “everyone should experience the Lewes night at least once. It’s like turning time back 100 years plus with flame torches, barrel rolling “.
The Anne of Cleves House that dates back to the 15th century is a place to visit for any fan of history.
For a £6.60 ticket, you can go inside to see what Tudor and Elizabethan life was like. It also has a traditional Tudor garden and a dressing-up box for kids.
Just a 10 minute walk away from the Tudor home is the huge Lewes Castle. Built on a man-made mound, the medieval castle sits much higher than the town.
The climb up the steep staircase is rewarded with the best views of Lewes and the hills of the South Downs.
Entry tickets into the castle cost £10 per person.

Lewes is also known for its shopping. They have a flea market open seven days a week that sells ceramics, clocks, furniture and jewellery. There’s also the Needlemakers indoor market that sells quirky hand-made gifts.
Lewes is also famous for housing the Bloomsbury group members, Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant in Charleston.
You have to buy a ticket to get into the house and gardens but you can easily spend hours there.
They usually have temporary exhibitions so check to see what will be on show before you go.
While it’s fairly expensive at £26 a ticket, visitors have said the home is “very special” with lots of people suggesting to book in the summertime to spend time in the walled garden.

With an artistic history, it’s no surprise there are plenty of galleries around Lewes.
From the Chalk Gallery to St Anne’s, The Sussex Guild Shop and Skylark there is plenty of artwork to buy, or window shop.
A short drive outside of Lewes and you’ll find the incredible Glyndebourne opera house where Pavarotti once performed.
Between May and August Glyndebourne holds a summer festival of world class opera.
You can enjoy a performance in the auditorium and then either have a picnic in the gardens or dinner in their restaurant during the 90-minute interval.
Standing tickets for Glyndebourne can cost as little as £15. Take advantage of cheaper tickets if you’re under 30 or a student.

Lewes is not a seaside town, but it’s pretty close to some stunning beaches. The well-known seaside town of Brighton is just 14-minutes down the road by train.
In one day you can visit Lewes but also head into Brighton to explore the lanes, award-winning pier and enjoy fish and chips on the beach front.
Another beach close to Lewes is Seaford at just 20 minutes away. Not only is the pebble beach close to town and the downs, it has great views of the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs.
The Sun Travel were lucky enough to watch the displays at Lewes bonfire night.
And spent time on the East Sussex coastline checking out their stunning beaches.

Strictly’s Amy Dowden sparks concern as she reveals suffering ‘four to five blackouts a day’ months after quitting show
STRICTLY star Amy Dowden has revealed her excruciating Crohn’s disease can make her blackout up to five times a day.
The professional dancer, who is in remission from breast cancer, began suffering from the chronic bowel condition when she was 11 but didn’t get diagnosed until the age of 19.
![Amy Dowden on the Lorraine TV show.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/amy-dowden-lorraine-tv-show-935790746.jpg?strip=all&w=734)

On Aimee Fuller’s Monday Mile podcast, Amy said the symptoms can be worse than child birth.
She said: “If you think, a woman is designed for childbirth, you don’t pass out during childbirth.
“I can have four to five blackouts, because the pain is that much that my body can’t control it.
“I get swollen eyes, inflammation to my joints, my skin, but I’m very, very lucky that I work with the most incredible team and a lot of my severe symptoms are now under control and in remission.”
Amy has been to hospital more than 100 times in her life due to flare-ups of the condition.
There is no cure for the disease, so treatment aims to reduce symptoms and maintain remission.
Just weeks ago Amy returned to dancing after being forced to pull out of Strictly after fracturing her shin.
She will soon be hitting the road with Carlos Gu for their ‘Reborn’ show throughout March and April.
In November Amy marked a year since she finished chemotherapy for stage three breast cancer.
She said she felt “so proud” of what she has achieved and shared a video from the day she rang a bell signalling her last round of treatment.
“At the time I didn’t know what was ahead, awaiting tests and I guess the hardest part yet the long recovery from what chemo and surgery does to you,” she wrote.
“I was a ‘new’ me but deep inside found I had zero confidence. Even until late spring I wasn’t sure I had the confidence to dance again.
“I just didn’t feel like me. But I’m so glad I pushed through because it’s what has made me truly happy again.”
What is Crohn's disease?
CROHN's disease is a lifelong condition where parts of the digestive system become inflamed.
It is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) which, along with ulcerative colitis, affects almost half a million people in the UK.
Symptoms usually start in childhood, but the disease affects people of all ages. These include:
- Diarrhoea
- Stomach aches and cramps
- Blood in your poo
- Tiredness (fatigue)
- Weight loss
There is no cure, but treatment can help reduce or control symptoms.
Some people take medication to lessen inflammation in the digestive system, while others might have surgery to remove a small area.
The exact cause is unknown, but genes, problems with your immune system, smoking, stomach bugs and gut bacteria imbalances are believed to play a part.

‘Sado-masochistic’ couple who sent depraved texts before murdering woman & scattering her severed remains are jailed
A “SADO-masochistic” couple who sent depraved texts before they murdered a woman and scattered her remains have been jailed.
Sarah Mayhew’s severed body parts were discovered in Rowdown Fields, Croydon, last year – sparking a gruesome murder probe.
![Photo of Sarah Mayhew.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/38-year-olds-remains-discovered-950987037.jpg?strip=all&w=300)
![Close-up selfie of Steven Sansom, wearing a grey t-shirt.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/38-year-olds-remains-discovered-950987071.jpg?strip=all&w=960)
![Gemma Watts in court via videolink.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/38-year-olds-remains-discovered-950987054.jpg?strip=all&w=500)
Her “limbless torso” was then pulled from the River Wandle by contractors carrying out cleaning work weeks later.
Steve Sansom, 45, and his girlfriend Gemma Watts, 49, were today jailed after pleading guilty to murder and perverting the course of justice.
Sansom was handed a rare whole life tariff – meaning he will never be released from prison.
While Watts was jailed for life with a minimum term of 30 years.
It is a second life sentence for Sansom, who was previously convicted and jailed for murder in 1999.
The monster stabbed popular cab driver Terrence Boyle, 59, in the throat and back before escaping with just £25 on Christmas Eve 1998.
He was released from jail in December 2019 after his case was considered by the Parole Board.
The double killer was under probation supervision at the time of Sarah’s murder.
A court heard the couple’s relationship was “characterised by sado-masochistic violence” that was so intense they “often referred to dying together if caught”.
They would send each other “depraved” messages about their macabre desire to kill victims while “involved in sexual activity” with them.
The couple then discussed having sex while covered in their victim’s blood and eating human flesh.
On September 7, 2023, Watts messaged Sansom saying: “I am writing this of my own free will.
“Should any serious injury, or even death occur whilst I am with Steven Sansom let it be made fully understood that I enter the act of violent, dangerous sex games with Steven Samson of my own free will.”
Four days later, Sansom said in a voice note: “Everything looks like meat now don’t they? A plaything, something to cut, something to bleed, they all look different now.”
Watts replied: “Wonder what they taste like, cooked flesh, maybe even rare so blood drips down our faces.”
![a map showing the remains of sarah mayhew found scattered across south london](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/RB_26_09_MAP_Sarah-Mayhew.jpg?strip=all&w=818)
They also had a “kinky” sexual relationship and shared texts about bestiality, humiliation and causing hurt.
Prosecutor Tom Little KC said: “Given what was subsequently to happen to Sarah Mayhew this murderous, sexual and sadistic discussion was manifestly not an idle fantasy.”
On March 8 last year, Sarah was last seen heading to Sansom’s home after meeting him on a dating site years previously.
She was tragically never seen again after Sansom and Watts slaughtered her that night.
The depraved couple then used power tools to chop up Sarah’s body after Sansom purchased a 300mm hacksaw, a 300mm blade and 14-litre bucket.
After cleaning up evidence of their gruesome crime, he left a chilling voice note claiming the pair had “done the world a service”.
He also posted on his Facebook, which had the username “Red Rum” – murder spelt backwards – two days later.
Sansom wrote: “Best friends are those who don’t say anything when you show up at their door with a dead body.
“They just grab a shovel and follow you.”
Sarah’s head, arms and legs were found in the park when a dog walking in the fields returned to its owner carrying a human bone.
Then, on May 21, further body parts were discovered in Mitcham.
The court heard Sarah’s head had been shaved and she had bruising on her skull.
DNA tests carried out on blood traces in a bucket, in the kitchen and the lounge floor and walls at Samson’s flat showed they belonged to Sarah.
Her bloodstains were also found in the bedroom and bathroom sink.
In a victim impact statement Sarah was remembered by her mum Angela as a “beautiful, pretty girl”.
While her dad David thanked Sansom and Watts for pleading guilty and saving his grieving family from the ordeal of sitting through a trial of this “horrendous case”.
He added: “That said whatever sentence you may receive will never compare to the pain you have caused us.
“I ask myself the same question all the time, why did you have to kill her maybe I will never know.”
The Ministry of Justice has confirmed a serious further offence review is under way due to Sansom’s release from jail.
Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe earlier said: “My thoughts are with Sarah’s family as they deal with this heartbreaking news.
“No family should have to lose a loved one in such tragic circumstances, and we will continue to provide our support as our investigation progresses.”

Over 1,300 students evacuated from TWO Irish schools and nearby businesses cleared out after ‘major fire’ declared
TWO schools and premises at a business park in Co Galway were evacuated earlier today after a fire broke out at a factory.
Gardai are assisting with the evacuation after Galway County Council declared the scene at Claregalway Corporate Business Park as a “major fire incident” this afternoon.
![Entrance to a corporate park.](https://www.thesun.ie/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2025/01/Screenshot-2025-01-30-at-14.55.43.png?strip=all&w=960)
It is understood that the fire took place at a lithium battery production plant in the area, with the council confirming that the evacuation has been taken as a “precautionary measure”.
It has been reported that, while the fire has been contained after breaking out yesterday, there is concern that gasses resulting from the production processes are not dispersing due to humidity levels.
Parents whose children attend Claregalway Educate Together National School and Coláiste Bhaile Chläir secondary school’s have been urged to collect their children from the evacuation locations.
A statement from Galway County Council said: “Galway Fire and Rescue Service is currently responding to a significant fire at the Claregalway Corporate Business Park.
“As a precautionary measure, a partial evacuation of the business park is underway.
“In the interest of public safety, Claregalway Educate Together National School and Colaiste Bhaile Chlair secondary school are also being evacuated. An Garda Siochana is assisting with the evacuation process.
“All pupils from Colaiste Bhaile Chlair secondary school are being transported by bus to Claregalway GAA Club at Knockdoemore.
“Pupils from the Claregalway Educate Together National School are being evacuated to the church in Claregalway.”
It is understood that some 1,300 students were evacuated from their classrooms at Colaiste Bhaile Chlair.
The schools have already been in touch with school guardians, with parents being told that further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
The council added: “Parents and guardians are advised not to go to the schools, as access is restricted. Instead, they are requested to collect their children directly from the above locations.
“Galway County Council urges the public to follow official guidance and avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work.”
ANOTHER SCHOOL EVACUATED
It comes after another school was evacuated in a separate incident that took place in Co Cork yesterday morning.
An electric cable is suspected to have caught on fire at Glasheen Boy’s National School, located on School Avenue, shortly after 8:30am.
No injuries were reported.
It is understood that staff at the primary school extinguished the minor blaze with a fire extinguisher.
Cork City Fire Brigade were alerted to the blaze and attended the scene within six minutes.
The school, which shares a campus with Glasheen Girls’ School, is located in Cork city centre.
Cork City Council confirmed in a statement that three pumps, a hydraulic platform and a senior officer from the Cork City Fire Brigade mobilised and were on the scene for one hour.

Jack O’Connor in dramatic U-turn as he recalls Kerry ace after high-profile 2024 falling-out
JACK O’Connor is reportedly set to draft Micheal Burns back into his Kerry panel in a dramatic U-turn from this time last year.
Back in Feburary 2024 the Kingdom boss announced that Burns had opted to walk away over a lack of playing time.

However, in a November interview on the Smaller Fish GAA podcast, the Dr Crokes forward clarified that he was ‘more told I wasn’t wanted’ while about to hop into his car on the way to training.
Burns responded to his brutal dropping in the best manner possible as he was in inspired form as his club stormed to the Munster championship title.
Crokes selector Denis Coleman hailed the 29-year-old in the lead-up to their final triumph over Loughmore-Castleiney for channelling his frustration brilliantly.
Coleman told SunSport: “When things with Kerry came to an end, Micheal was straight back to us with an attitude of, ‘I’m back with my own crowd here now and I’m going to give it 100 per cent’.
“He played right through the league with us and he was a real leader on and off the field.
“He brought so much to it, whereas some fellas might start moping because they’re no longer involved at that level.
“His attitude was completely different. He came back in and couldn’t get enough football. He was delighted to be with the group.
“He had been with Kerry for quite a number of years so it wouldn’t have been normal for him to be with us at that time of the year.
“But we were more than happy to have him and he’s been a huge asset to us all the way through.”
Burns himself spoke after that sweet success about just how much a ninth provincial crown meant to everyone connected with the club.
The 2022 All-Ireland winner with Kerry beamed: “These days don’t come around often and you have to cherish them.
“You can see what it means to people out here on the pitch. A brilliant day for the club.
“We haven’t been here in a while and it’s just a great feeling now leading into Christmas with something to look forward to afterwards.”
TAKING KERR
According to The Kerryman, he is now among a quartet called up by O’Connor as Kerry prepare to make their bow in Division 1 of the Allianz League.
Mark O’Shea, Evan Looney and Charlie Keating are the other three named in the piece.
The All-Ireland contenders’ re-fixed opening clash with Donegal will be played on Saturday, February 8 at Fitzgerald Stadium at 2.30pm.
Last Sunday’s round 1 showdown was one of five league fixtures called off across both codes due as a result of storm Éowyn.
Leitrim’s cancelled Division 3 clash with Laois and Wicklow’s Division 4 showdown with Waterford will also be played on February 8 in Ballinamore and Aughrim respectively with 2.30 starts.
Mayo’s NHL Division 3 game against Cavan will be played on Saturday February 15 at 1.30, and Westmeath’s Division 2 hurling derby against Laois will be on Sunday February 16 at 2.30.
