Wet & cloudy weather as ‘temps drop quickly’ & Met Eireann pinpoint exact day rain to pour over Bank Holiday weekend

IT is set to be cold, wet and rainy as the Bank Holiday weekend sets in, with weather bosses pinpointing the dampest day.

While there will be a good share of dry conditions over the long weekend, rainfall is expected overnight in most parts.

Forecasters have also warned that chillier temperatures are to remain as parts of the country reported feeling chills of 0C overnight.

Carlow Weather said: “Temperatures dropping quickly in many areas now and already down to 0C in some areas.

“Good sunshine today Friday for most before cloud moves in from West this evening with a cloudy Saturday ahead.

“Black ice on car here and likely to be forming in other areas so take care.”

Met Eireann’s Matthew Martin said today is looking to be mostly dry for the majority of the country, but has warned that clouds will pick up by evening.

He said: “Well any frost or mist patches are going to clear this morning and that will leave a mostly dry day with sunny spells and just the odd shower near the north coast this morning.

“It will however turn cloudier in the west towards evening with drizzle and mist moving into some of the Atlantic coastal areas by then.

“Highest temperatures today are 7C to 10C.”

Tonight is looking to be “rather breezy” as rain begins to develop, becoming more overcast than the daytime conditions.

He added: “Becoming rather breezy then tonight with patchy light rain and drizzle developing in the south west and west.

“Holding mostly dry elsewhere though but with increasing amounts of cloud.

“Lowest temperatures tonight of 2C to 5C, coldest initially early in the night in eastern counties but it is going to turn less cold in all areas by dawn on Saturday.”

As the Bank Holiday weekend comes into full swing, it’ll be a mostly dry day for those heading to Dublin to watch Ireland play their first Six Nations match.

However, it will be slightly breezy so wrapping up well is advised.

‘MAY STAY COMPLETELY DRY’

Matthew said: “Saturday is going to be a mostly cloudy and rather breezy day. There will be scattered patches of light rain and drizzle about.

“However lots of dry weather overall especially across north Leinster and east Ulster where it may stay completely dry during daylight hours on Saturday. Maximum temperatures of 9C to 12C.”

On Saturday night, rain will sweep across the country in a huge push from the Atlantic.

He said: “Then early on Saturday night a band of rain will push in from the Atlantic and extend gradually eastwards across the country.

“A clearance will follow across the western half of the country before dawn on Sunday.”

Sunday will see any remaining rain and drizzle in the east clear, but it won’t last as overcast conditions return.

He said: “On Sunday, rain and drizzle in the east will clear quickly and that will leave a dry and bright day across the country with good spells of hazy sunshine.

“But it will turn overcast again in the west later in the day. Highest temperatures on Sunday of 7C to 10C.”

Bank Holiday Monday will see outbreaks of rain to come in, with the remainder of the week looking to improve as the days go by.

He added: “It then looks set to be breezy on Monday with outbreaks of rain moving in from the Atlantic to affect the west and northwest but holding mostly dry elsewhere apart from the odd spot of rain or drizzle.

“Then on Monday night a band of rain will push across the country once again clearing quickly on Tuesday morning to leave another dry and bright day on Tuesday.”

‘Forgot to hit the mute button’ – BBC commentator’s ‘wildly inappropriate’ outburst live on air leaves fans in meltdown

Rangers ended up winning the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Nicolas Raskin and Václav Černý either side of half-time before Kevin Mac Allister netted a late reply for the visitors.

But at around the 66-minute mark play was briefly stopped by referee Damian Sylwestrzak.

It came as former Accrington defender Ross Sykes was left in a heap on the floor after blocking a Ross McCausland shot square in the face.

This was explained on BBC Sportsound by commentator Neil McCann and pundit Steven “Tommo” Thompson.

Ex-Rangers winger McCann, 50, explained the situation before wincing upon seeing a replay.

However, Thompson seemed to be a little less sympathetic than his colleague, suddenly bursting out saying: “In the face!” in a funny voice.

The unexpected remark caught many listeners off guard and left them in stitches.

One fan captured the snippet of audio and posted it to social media to fans’ delight.

Reacting to the clip on social media, one fan said: “Wildly inappropriate commentary hahahahahaha.”

A second said: “Definitely forgot to hit the mute button,” followed by a laughing emoji.

A third added: “That is outstanding.”

Another said: “Can’t stop playing it.”

A fifth said: “Inappropriate (lol). Calm down man.”

While many others replied with sets of laughing emojis.

Former Lincoln player and manager Thompson, 69, was previously dropped from commentating for the BBC from November 2020 to the end of the year.

UEFA Europa League table.

Working as a freelancer, Thompson had made comments referencing “handbags” and “the referee’s wife” during an Accrington match.

In 2018 he was also warned by the broadcaster over his use of language that “didn’t meet the standards we expect”.

Listeners had raised concerns about comments across a 20-minute period, including one where he said: “Being a bit of a drama queen… he’d have been better wearing a skirt.”

The use of “handbags” had also been present.

But this time around Thompson seems to have made headlines for the right reasons, with his off-the-cuff comment during Rangers clash with USG treating fans to a funny moment during the game.

Rangers’ win confirmed their progression into the last 16 after sneaking into the top eight positions that provide knockout round spots without the need for an extra play-off round.

Wins for Manchester United over FCSB and Tottenham over IF Elfsborg saw all the British clubs progress automatically.

‘They’ve been slow to pay’ – Darts star still waiting on World Championship £60,000 jackpot to buy himself Rolex

DAMON HETA revealed he is still yet to receive his £60,000 cash prize after hitting a nine-darter at the World Darts Championship.

The eccentric Aussie became the second star to throw a perfect leg in his Round of 32 clash with Luke Woodhouse.

He plans to buy a Rolex with his winnings[/caption]

Heta came close to a nine-darter in the previous round and he jumped around on stage like a madman before hugging his opponent.

The feat bagged Heta £60,000 courtesy of Paddy Power, who were dishing out £180,000 for every nine-darter thrown.

Only two were scored in the tournament, with the betting company donating one third of the sum to Prostate Cancer UK and the final third to a randomly selected fan in the crowd.

But Heta revealed he is still yet to receive his winnings so is yet to bag himself a dream purchase.

Heta stated at the time he was going to treat himself to a Rolex watch with his share.

But when asked if he had secured his gift to himself yet, the Heat laughed: “Obviously, I’ve still got my sundial, as you can see.

“Paddy Power has been slow to pay! Make sure you get that out there!

“But, nah, we’ll just roll with what we’ve got at the moment until the dollars come through, mate.

“Obviously, the nine-darter, brilliant. I’ve never felt anything like it. I never heard a crowd like it and I was hanging on to every single dart as they were.

“Like I said, I’d give that nine-darter back for the win, 100 per cent.

“But at the end of the day, we move on, and like I said, we’ve got a whole season ahead of us and that’s what I’m looking forward to.

“You’ve always got to look forward rather than looking back. You can just learn your lessons and that’s where I’ve learnt my lesson. Moving on, let’s go for it.”

Taking to Instagram, Nas shared his Love Island: All Stars promo snap and penned: “My all inclusive holiday has come to an end!”

He then went on to thank fans for their “continued love and support”, adding how it “felt like a full circle moment returning to South Africa and the Love Island Villa 5 years on”.

Nas said: “I’ve had an amazing couple weeks surrounded by so many beautiful individuals

“Lets watch the rest together, I’m excited to see what my fellow islanders get up to and who falls in love.”

He then added a side note which read: “P.S. anyone tryna Slow Burn with me?”

Fans were quick to react and shower Nas with love and support.

While a third penned: “You showed how real and honest you are, and that’s all you can be.”

“Such a gentleman with the best smile in that villa,” said a fourth.

While a fifth echoed: “Such a true gentleman.”

His first stint in the villa saw him last 30 days, while his All Stars stint only lasted 15.

Love Island All Stars is back on TV for season 2.

Here we take you through the line-up of all the Islanders who are in the villa so far.

Each series brings with it a string of hot single bombshells making their epic entrance into the villa.

Here’s who has joined the villa so far:

Upon arrival at the South African villa for this year’s All Stars series, the public voted him and Catherine to be coupled up in the initial pairings.

Despite a seemingly budding romance, the pair mutually agreed to remain friends after they admitted they couldn’t feel a spark.

Nas’ quest for finding love – complete with a slow burn – now continues outside of the villa after his dumping.

But Bild claims the Germans are already open to selling him for a hefty profit this summer.

Simons, who only played 11 times at PSG, spent last season on loan at Leipzig and impressed with 10 goals in 43 games.

He returned for a second spell last summer.

And the Bundesliga side wrapped up a full-time move for Simons on Thursday after the Netherlands international added a further five goals in 17 appearances.

However, Leipzig are now open to doing a quick turnaround in the summer.

They have only handed Simons a short-term contract until 2027.

And the Red Bull side will listen to offers between £58.5m and £67m at the end of the season.

It’s reckoned he already has a host of admirers in England too.

Man United are thought to be interested as Ruben Amorim hunts for dynamic attackers who are suitable for his 3-4-3 system.

Rivals Man City also fancy Simons as doubts swirl over the long-term futures of Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva.

While Liverpool are also being linked as Mo Salah continues to be lined up by Saudi sides as his contract runs down.

There is sure to be interest in Simons from other teams in Europe.

He spent nine years in Barcelona’s academy before joining PSG in 2019.

Bayern Munich were thought to have struck a deal for Simons last summer after his impressive Euros run.

And they could return as they look to continue snapping up the best talents in Germany’s top flight.
