Nato fighter jets scrambled as Putin unleashes huge missile and drone blitz on Ukraine – killing at least six people

NATO fighter jets were scrambled as Vladimir Putin unleashed a huge missile and drone blitz on Ukraine.

The savage barrage on Friday night killed six innocent Ukrainians after the bombs slammed into apartment buildings and neighbourhoods.

Putin used nuclear-capable bomber aircraft including Tu-95s and Tu-22s to unleash the Kh-22 missiles at Ukraine.

He also sent a wave of Iranian-supplied drones across the border as he tries to pummel the brave country into submission.

Nato scrambled its fighter jets in Poland in response to the scale of the attack near the alliance’s eastern border.

It also prepared its anti-air defences in case missiles or drones passed into its airspace.

In Ukraine’s second city Kharkiv, a drone crashed in the Kholodnohirskyi residential district, killing one woman and leaving five injured, its mayor said.

In Poltava, an ordinary apartment block was hit ripping apart the entrance and killing three, including a child, and wounding ten.

Several top floors were smashed and thick columns of smoke rose into the sky.

Fires broke out amongst the rubble with firefighters and rescuers having to make their way through the dangerous area to find survivors.

The attack soon after Donald Trump announced in the Oval Office that his administration was actively talking to Moscow.

Head of Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, Andriy Yermak, slammed Russia for the attack.

He said: “Murderers who have absolutely no respect for any leader in the world, or any other nation.

“There’s only fear, which does not allow them to do the same in Europe. For now.”

He said: “We are having very serious discussions about that war, trying to get it ended.”

Trump and Putin are likely to speak after the Republican pledged to end the war on “day one” during his campaign to return to the White House.

The Russian defence ministry said its overnight strikes had hit gas and energy infrastructure that supply Ukraine’s “military-industrial complexes”.

Putin, meanwhile, was seen presenting a bouquet of white roses to Russia’s leading churchman – Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill – on the 16th anniversary of this enthronement.

The fully-fledged Russian invasion of its neighbour enters its fourth year in February.

On Friday, The Sun revealed a hero who deserted the British Army to fight for Ukraine had died.

Former Royal Welsh Fusilier Alexander Garms-Rizzi, 23, acted as “bait” to draw fire away from three Ukrainian troops during a frontline battle.

Ukrainian air defence also repelled the attacks in Kyiv, but there were no immediate reports of major damage or casualties in the capital.

Putin’s goons have also posted sickening videos of their murderous drone strikes on innocent Ukrainians online as warped war “trophies”.

Horrifying clips of several bomb drops on civilian homes, buses, and cars have been posted on Telegram during Mad Vlad’s terrorist invasion.

Videos, proudly uploaded by sick-minded Russian troops, show drone operators flying their weapons at a low height over the city.

The new ‘bird wine’ that’s set to be as big as ‘chicken wine’ in 2025 – amateur sommeliers say it’s ‘insanely delicious’

THERE’S a new bird with “insanely delicious” wine on the block.

Treasury Wine Estates has dropped a brand new Italian brand, Belorante – and it has a distinctive peacock mascot named Massimo.

Last year, British wine lovers went wild for ‘chicken wine’, the nickname for La Vieille Ferme, a rosé wine produced in France’s Southern Rhône Valley.

This year, Belorante bosses say that their ‘peacock wine’ is going to be all the rage.

Amy Fisher, Senior Brand Manager, says that the four-wine range is “inspired by the effortless style, attitude and vivaciousness of the Italian way”.

“Belorante is all about bringing colour to the table and flavour to your glass, Italian style,” ehe says.

“When it comes to choosing wine, we often play it safe and stick with what we know – but wine doesn’t have to be complicated.

“We want Belorante to be part of every fun and joyous occasion.

“Belorante is a bold, modern reinvention of Italian wine, bringing colour, freshness and modernity into the Italian wine aisle, inviting consumers to stray away from the neutral and be more ‘peacock’.”

The range includes two white wines and two red wines.

The Grillo Italia is a white wine bursting with Sicilian delights like juicy medlar, prickly pear and zesty grapefruit, with a hint of basil for flair.

Similarly, the Pecorino has a floral aroma that starts off crisp, fresh and savoury, and finishes with a sweet, fruity hint.

Belorante’s red Montepulciano D’Abruzzo DOC is a medium-bodied wine with aromas of red berries with a dash of peppery spice.

The partnering Italia Primitivo is also medium-bodied with smooth tannins – and it finishes with a fruity, spicy kick.

You can pick up the bottles in Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons.

The Pecorino is currently part of Asda’s reintroduced Rollback discounts, and is currently £7.97 down from £10.

Amateur sommeliers have reviewed it as “insanely delicious” and declared it “the wine of summer 2025”.

“This wine tastes great,” one beamed. “It is also great value for money.

“It was fresh and fruity, and I loved the bottle design too.”

Another described it as an “excellent choice for those seeking a bright, approachable white wine with depth and character”.

Brian O’Driscoll left red-faced as ex-teammate shares story of dad embarrassing him during Ireland match

NO one is immune from their mam or dad embarrassing them during a childhood match – not even Brian O’Driscoll.

While debating the merits of Ireland going with Sam Prendergast over Jack Crowley against England, BOD had to relive a moment from when he was younger than both of them.

It was former Leinster and international teammate Andy Dunne who…teed things up while the pair were guests at an Off the Ball roadshow.

Moments earlier O’Driscoll had rubbished his own ability to ever play fly-half as he cited ‘kicking game…passing game…running game’ as just a few of the traits he struggled with.

When it was Dunne’s turn to chime in he insisted the 46-year-old could convert a penalty in a pinch…with him often roared on by his father.

Dunne remembered: “He’s being a bit harsh on his kicking game because I remember an Ireland Under 18s game where they couldn’t establish who was going to kick the penalties beforehand.

“Because lots of lads were kicking for their schools teams or club teams.

“So we had a little kicking competition before we played Scotland.

“It was literally whomever got the most got to kick on matchday and Brian got the most.

“Brian got the most, although he was actually brutal, but he got the most so he got to kick.

“I always remember you taking one by the sideline – and his dad Frank O’Driscoll has a famously loud voice.

“You could’ve had 50,000 people there and you’d still hear Frank.

“So Brian nails it and Frank goes ‘Just like a 9-iron Briano!'”

Through a grimace, Brian did add to the story: “We’ll be out on a night out and our pal Ciaran Scally will actually just shout out of the blue ‘Like a 9-iron Briano!’…25 years later.”

Here’s hoping Prendergast and Crowley, assuming he comes on at some stage, have every shot in their bag at their disposal this afternoon at the Aviva Stadium.

CAELAN’S CALL TO ARMS

At the Six Nations launch in Rome new captain Caelan Doris previewed the initial challenge in front of them before taking a wider view at the tournament as a whole.

He underlined: “Each game, you can’t take anything for granted. For us, we’ve got England first up and it’s hard to look beyond that for now.

“But in terms of our preparation and our mindset generally, it’s one of needing to evolve and needing to improve collectively. It’s an exciting prospect but it’s game by game.”

Ireland are the slight favourites with the bookies, marginally ahead of France and Doris added: “It’s still just being aware of how competitive it is.

“And it’s about improving and preparing as best as possible, so I don’t think we take that into account too much.

“There’s an awareness that if we don’t keep improving, someone else will take the reign.”

With Andy Farrell on sabbatical to lead the Lions Tour this summer, Simon Easterby has stepped up to be interim head coach.
