Gladiators battle halted just minutes into new BBC episode over hilarious blunder
GLADIATORS was halted just minutes into the latest episode over a hilarious blunder during the first battle.
The hit BBC show returned for its third instalment of the second series, following its successful reboot last year.
Gladiators referee Mark Clattenburg halted the first game just minutes into the episode[/caption] Steel and Phantom were taking on two new contenders for The Ring[/caption] Mark tied Steel’s shoelaces for him before the game was restarted[/caption]Bradley and Barney Walsh introduced the first battle called The Ring as Steel and Phantom took on the first two contenders.
However, just moments in the game was halted by head referee Mark Clattenburg.
As he blew his whistle, Mark could be heard telling Steel: “Your shoe, one minute.”
It then transpired the gladiator’s laces needed to be tied, and Mark gladly obliged him.
After the awkward exchange the game was then re-started with just 19 seconds on the clock.
Eagle-eyed Gladiators fans at home were left amused, with one writing: “You never forget your weekend job at Foot Locker.”
A second wrote: “Mark Clattenburg: referee and tier of Steel’s laces.”
“And here I thought they had better shoes this series, clearly not needing their shoelaces done up,” said a third.
While a fourth commented: “How cute was that. Doing his shoelace up.”
Gladiators narrator Guy Mowbray couldn’t help but make a cheeky dig at Mark, as he told viewers: “And to think in the Premier League we used to question his eyesight.
“Only joking, Mark.”
Gladiators continues on BBC One and iPlayer.

Everyone can see the top hat-wearing snowman but you need 20/20 vision to spot the panda in under 7 seconds
THIS is the optical illusion that asks you to stare at a gang of strikingly dashing snowmen to spot a hidden animal.
Everyone can see the snowmen, some with nicer hats than others, but only those with 20/20 vision can spot the hidden panda in seven seconds.
Spot the panda in seven seconds![/caption]The puzzle will remind you of the last time you saw a snowman who didn’t get the dress code memo and stuck out at the function with their top hat.
It is unknown why only one snowman decided to dress so smartly, even though the invitation specifically said fun casual.
Others got the right idea, dressing in modest hats and scarves, which adequately reflect the relaxed occasion for which this group is gathered.
The top hat snowman could just take it off, but The Sun has been told that he has decided to commit to the look.
This optical illusion is tricky because of how the white-faced panda blends in with the snowmen around it.
There are also very few colours to pick out, making finding this hidden bear that much harder.
The key to this one is to focus on the black of the bear’s face and not the white because it is a less common colour in the image.
Are you ready, because the clock is ticking!
If you’re still struggling, a hint would be to look for the face without a carrot sticking out of it.
People who are able to solve the puzzle quickly possess good observational skills and high cognitive speed.
It tests your ability to process a high volume of visual information and the ability to concentrate under high amounts of pressure.
How can optical illusions and brainteasers help me?
Engaging in activities like solving optical illusions and brainteasers can have many cognitive benefits as it can stimulate various brain regions.
Some benefits include:
- Cognitive stimulation: Engaging in these activities challenges the brain, promoting mental agility and flexibility.
- Problem-solving skills: Regular practice enhances analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Memory improvement: These challenges often require memory recall and can contribute to better memory function.
- Creativity: They encourage thinking outside the box, fostering creativity and innovative thought processes.
- Focus and attention: Working on optical illusions and brainteasers requires concentration, contributing to improved focus.
- Stress relief: The enjoyable nature of these puzzles can act as a form of relaxation and stress relief.
Psychologists at The University of Glasgow found that staring at an optical illusion can improve eye sight by allowing you to see small print.
Escape London says puzzles can also give your mind a great workout and may “boost your brain’s activity” which “reduces the risk of dementia.”
These can help to stimulate several parts of the brain at the same time.
Tasks like this can also provide people with a productive way to have fun and relax.
Have you solved it? Don’t worry, if you’re still struggling we’ve included the solution to the brainteaser down below.
If you’ve solved that, why not try testing your mental agility on these ones?

KATYA Jones wowed in a plunging top and gold trousers as the Strictly tour cast left their Manchester hotel today.
Professional dancer Katya went braless in her zipped down top that revealed a glimpse of midriff.

The likes of Amy Dowden, Aljaz Skorjanec, Dianne Buswell, Montell Douglas and Karen Hauer was snapped in the city.
Katya’s latest sighting comes amid fears she could quit the BBC series over the way her dance partner Wynne Evans was axed from the tour.
She was left blindsided when the decision was made for the opera singer to take a step back after months of them working hard together.
Sources close to the star say she is feeling ‘betrayed’ by both Strictly bosses and the fans, who have turned their back on him.
An insider said: “Katya is really upset about what has happened and feel like it’s all been blown out of proportion.
“She was shocked that bosses hauled Wynne in and feels like they have been thrown under the bus.
“Her friends are worried this is making her fall out of love with the show and wonder if she will do it again next year. There is only so much drama she can take.”
The insider added: “On top of that she really feels that fans of the show had her back but she’s been horrified by things people have been saying about Wynne.”
Katya’s best pal Aimee Fuller has rushed to be her side and is now supporting her through this very difficult period.
The Sun has contacted Katya’s rep for comment.
Katya expressed her upset online as she wrote in a simple Instagram post: “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.”
She has also urged goading fans to show “humanity” towards Wynne.
The GoCompare star was axed from the live tour after he was caught on camera making a sexual jibe towards his co-star.
The Welsh opera star used the derogatory term “spit roast” during a photo call for the tour earlier this month.
Wynne reportedly made a suggestive face at EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick as the tour’s host Janette Manrara moved between them and allegedly made the so-called joke.
Katya shared this fun pic with Nikita Kuzmin on social media[/caption] Katya and Wynne have been working together for months[/caption]Janette’s spokeswoman said she had been “unaware of this comment.”
On Tuesday, the BBC confirmed that Wynne would be stepping back from both his BBC Radio Wales show and the Strictly tour.
Apologising in a statement, Wynne said: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that l’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
“I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection.
“Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.”
