Nottingham Forest open to sending out of favour star, 26, on loan to fierce rivals Derby in controversial transfer

The midfielder, 26, fancies Preston or Blackburn but they cannot  come up with even half of his Forest salary.

Derby, Luton and Swansea are willing to offer more but he is after a club with a play-off   chance.

O’Brien signed for Forest from Huddersfield following their promotion to the Premier League in 2022.

He has since made just 17 appearances for them and has been farmed out on three separate loans.

The Essex-born ace first headed to the US for a stint with D.C. United in 2023.

He then played 25 times for Middlesbrough during a return to the Championship last season.

After featuring for Forest in pre-season, O’Brien returned to America for a spell with Los Angeles FC last July.

The deal included an option to buy, which was not taken up by the MLS side.

In total he played 18 times for LAFC before returning to Forest.

With Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side flying high in the Premier League, O’Brien is still not part of their plans.

So he is likely to head out on loan again before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

X-RATED photos showing a couple having sex have been nailed to a tree in a popular woods where parents take their kids to play.

The eye-popping snaps were spotted along a countryside woodland trail by a couple on an afternoon stroll on January 27.

Erica Blake and husband Dylan were shocked by the naughty images showing a man and woman engaging in sexual activity Hameldon Woods near Burnley, Lancashire.

They were stopped in their tracks by the three explicit photos showing a couple having sex and a woman exposing her privates.

The shots were screwed and nailed to a tree next to a public footpath where families with children walk by.

One photo shows a naked blonde woman lying down exposing her privates and another picture shows her on top of a man.

The wooded beauty spot is a popular magnet for dog walkers, horse riders, mountain bikers and families.

Dad-of-two Dylan, 47, said: “It was totally bizarre. We stopped off to have some tomato soup from a flask.

“We turned around and there they were, bold as brass. I shouted ‘oh my god’ and Erica jumped out of her skin.

“It put us right off our soup and roll.

“Who would put something like that in the middle of a wood? There are some strange people out there.

“It was shocking and a bit disturbing to be honest.

“They look like they had been there for some time as they were fading.”

The couple had been walking around the woods and decided to stop for a cup of soup from their flask.

Dylan said: “We found a spot out of the wind and walked towards some bushes.

“We turned around and there in front of us were these porn pictures.

“They were screwed into the tree and looked a bit weathered and worn.

“The woman had a big smile on her face – and the man looked pleased with himself too.

“It was just so bizarre and not something you expect to see on an afternoon walk.

Whoever left them there wanted them to stay there as they had screws in the tree.

“It’s shocking as kids and families go for walks around those woods.

“The mind boggles as to why they were put there. We were stunned at first but had to laugh as we walked back to our car.”

A sign at the entrance to the National Lottery-funded woods says “Trees are our future… help us care for them.”

Bohemians’ Adam McDonnell gives blunt insight into squad’s mindset after being ‘soft’ last season

ADAM McDONNELL insists Bohemians boss Alan Reynolds held no inquest into the Gypsies’ eighth-place finish last season.

The midfielder simply states that it was not needed.

29 January 2025; Adam McDonnell of Bohemian FC is pictured as Virgin Media Television announced its opening live fixtures for the 2025 SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division. Games to be shown live on Virgin Media Play and Virgin Media Two: Shelbourne vs Derry City on Friday, February 14th, Bohemian FC vs Shamrock Rovers on Sunday, February 16th, Galway United vs St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday, February 21st, Shelbourne vs Shamrock Rovers on Friday, February 28th, Waterford vs Cork City on Monday, March 3rd. He said: “I don’t think that we need the staff to tell us last year wasn’t good enough. All the players know that.

“We were soft in both boxes — not just defenders and attackers but midfielders included, not chipping in with the goals.

“Since Rennie came in last April, from box-to-box we’re one of the best teams in the league if you were watching it.

“But it doesn’t mean anything if you’re losing or not winning your games.

“After every game last year it just felt like we were battering teams up to the 35th minute and they’d get their first chance and it was like, ‘Here we go again’.

“Trying to change that in that moment is hard. That’s why we’ve been in early pre-season and we’ve been working on it.

“We know we were playing well but we weren’t finishing off games.

“We were letting opponents get a chance. It’s hard then to get back.

“We have to be a lot better than last year. We can’t let it happen again.”

It is why the hard work was done — and done early this pre-season — with Bohemians back in training since December 1.

Crucially, a lot of their close-season business was completed by then with Colm Whelan, who has been injured in pre-season, John Mountney and Niall Morahan signed in November.

As well as that, the players who are returning from absences — captain Keith Buckley, Rob Cornwall and goalkeeper James Talbot — are as good as new signings.

McDonnell added: “They were big losses in the dressing room, experience and vocal. And JT coming back fit too . . . he’s flying in pre-season.

“It’s like three signings. It’s good to have them back.”

DUBLIN’S FINEST

McDonnell knows the time for talking will soon be over and it will be about proving it out on the pitch.

The first target is to ensure Bohemians are not the fourth-best Dublin team in the Premier Division.

Shelbourne, Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick’s Athletic were last season’s top three so if the Gypsies achieve that goal, they will likely be title contenders.

McDonnell said: “We saw last season what we could have been, the fine margins, what we could be better at.

“The club shouldn’t have finished where they have the last two years.

“It hasn’t been good enough on the pitch. This year is about stopping the excuses and doing it properly.”

And McDonnell admitted that they could not ask for a better start than a big Dublin derby with Shamrock Rovers at the Aviva Stadium.

The clash will likely set a League of Ireland attendance record, with 20,000 tickets sold two weeks from the big kick-off.

McDonnell said: “It’s a big day to make a statement. It’s the first league game, it won’t make or break the season.

“But it’s about going out, enjoying it and not being crowded out by it.”

Arsenal vs Man City referee appointment lacks common sense – Gunners fans are right to be unhappy

THE appointment of Peter Bankes for the power-keg Premier League showdown between Arsenal and Manchester City lacks common sense.

Gunners fans are up in arms because Bankes is from Merseyside and has an affiliation with the Liverpool County Football Association.

Gunners fans are up in arms as Bankes is from Merseyside and has an affiliation with the Liverpool County Football Association[/caption]

And I believe the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) have brought undue pressure on Bankes and themselves with the appointment for today’s Emirates clash with Arsenal vying with Liverpool in the title race.

In the wake of Michael Oliver receiving death threats and abuse after he wrongly sent off Arsenal‘s Myles Lewis-Skelly in the 1-0 win at Wolves last weekend, refs’ chiefs have made an unnecessary appointment.

They are not helping themselves.

The game is big enough because of the huge rivalry as outlined by Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.

But the appointment will only increase the pressure on Bankes.

I would never question the integrity of any match official.

But if anything happens then Bankes will be in the firing line.

Arsenal fans are already fuming over Oliver’s decision to dismiss Lewis-Skelly.

Arsenal ratings vs Girona as Neto has a shocker on debut but is rescued by wonderkid

NETO endured a nightmare Arsenal debut against Girona but had 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri to thank for sparing his blushes.

SunSport’s Henry Tomlinson has provided his ratings for the Arsenal team…

Neto – 4

He made his long-awaited debut, having joined Arsenal on loan from Bournemouth last summer.

The goalkeeper got away with an early mistake and was caught out by former Spurs star Arnaut Danjuma.

Thomas Partey 45′ – 6

Too aggressive from the right-back spot and was beaten for pace by Danjuma as Girona opened the scoring.

Partey struggled with the winger for much of the game which gave the hosts an edge.

Managed to win a penalty to give Arsenal a route back into the game after a needless challenge but was hooked at half-time.

Jakub Kiwior – 6

The defender put in a decent shift at the back and was able to keep Abel Ruiz quiet for much of the match.

Gabriel Magalhaes – 6

Like Kiwior, Gabriel was fairly solid against Girona and dealt with most of the danger from the hosts.

Riccardo Calafiori 69′ – 6

Thought he scored the opener but was a good foot offside.

Continued to be positive up the wing and helped the Gunners up the pitch.

Mikel Merino – 6

Merino was fine against Girona. It was not a performance that will grab headlines but did what he needed to do in midfield.

Jorginho 80′ – 7

It’s been a while, but the Italian was back on the scoresheet after converting from the spot in the 38th minute.

The midfielder was composed on the ball and helped recycle the ball and control possession.

Martin Odegaard – 6

It was a quiet night for the Gunners captain as he helped the team maintain the ball but lacked that creative spark.

Raheem Sterling – 4

Struggled to make a big impact in the first half and was the weakest of all of the Gunners’ frontline.

To make matters worse, he was booked for diving in the 70th minute.

And just as he though it couldn’t get even worse, he missed a penalty late on.

Leandro Trossard 69′ – 6

Should have given Arsenal the lead early on but was unable to deflect the ball goalwards.

Continued to prob and rattled the crossbar before the break with a powerful effort.

Ethan Nwaneri 85′ – 8

The youngster showed why he is one of the most promising players at the club with a wonder strike in the first half.

He wrapped a curling effort into the top corner before half-time on his first Champions League start.

His goal saw him become the second youngest English goalscorer in the history of thre Champions League.

SUBS

Jurrien Timber 45′ – 6

Added some energy down the left-hand side after replacing Partey at half-time.

Kai Havertz 69′ – 6

Got involved in the attack but struggled to find a clear scoring chance,

Myles Lewis-Skelly 69′ – 6

Another comfortable outing for the impressive youngster.

Declan Rice 80′ – 6

Came on in the final stages to help solidify the defence for the Gunners and put in some dangerous corners.

He did pick up a booking late on.

Gabriel Martinelli 85′ – N/A

Replaced Nwaneri late on and looked dangerous on the wing for the final minutes.

But VAR Darren England and then the PGMOL were more to blame.

England should have intervened at Molineux and then there was no reason for the PGMOL to back a decision which was clearly incorrect.

The statement to support the red card only inflamed the situation.

I saw Gary Neville accuse Mikel Arteta of fuelling Arsenal fans’ growing hostility towards referees but I disagree.

If Prem officials got decisions right on a consistent basis then the majority of supporters would have no complaints.
