Colombia star Luis Muriel’s brother-in-law gunned down by hitmen as striker, 33, posts emotional tribute

COLOMBIAN international Luis Muriel’s brother-in-law has been killed by hitmen.

His motorbike-riding assassins reportedly used a mini Uzi machine gun to end his life.

Footage from the murder scene in Maicao in Colombia’s La Guajira region near the country’s border with Venezuela showed Lindoa’s bullet-riddled vehicle.

Luis had been driving when he lost control of the car and crashed as he tried to escape his killers.

Locals were filmed surrounding the white Toyota and trying to right it to free the victim.

One of the Good Samaritans, who appeared to be a police officer, could be overheard radioing his boss and asking him to alert emergency responders.

The driver was eventually dragged out of the SUV by a group of men who managed to kick through the windscreen.

But Luis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Five of the bullets fired at him are said to have hit him in the head.

Another graphic video showed him face down on the ground by the side of his vehicle after it had been righted with a blanket over him as police began to cordon off the street.

The targeted assassination happened around midday on Tuesday.

The dead man was the brother of former Sampdoria, Sevilla and Atalanta striker Luis Muriel’s wife Tasharem Villegas Lindao.

He was also related to at least two politicians including a La Guajira MP.

Police have not yet gone public on a possible motive for the terrible crime.

But they are understood to be investigating whether those political links have any bearing on what happened.

One local report said Luis had received threats in the days leading up to his death and was planning to move away from the area.

Muriel, who has been capped 45 times by his country at senior level and is currently playing for MLS side Orlando City, shared his brother-in-law’s funeral details on his Instagram overnight as he paid tribute to him.

It read: “You left us with the emptiness of your absence but your beautiful memory remains in our hearts, everywhere and at every moment.

“You will always live on in our thoughts.”

Luis Ramirez Lindao’s funeral is due to take place later today.

Gaz – real name Gary – has now opened the door to his sprawling pad as he gets to work making it his home.

The dad-of-two has been busy getting his kids’ bedrooms ready for his son Chester, seven, and five-year-old daughter Primrose, while also getting to grips with his new kitchen.

And despite the cold February temperatures, 36-year-old Gaz has already been enjoying his huge garden with the help of a wood burning stove.

Taking to Instagram, Gaz told his followers: “Wow what a crazy week… honestly crazy what can happen in a year…”

He added: “Thanks for all the messages on moving and the follows on @thebeadlehome … 2 days of moving and then a rush to get the kids rooms ready but we did it after endless trips to B n M, Home Bargains Ikea and Dunlem 🤣

Mam visited and we had an amazing weekend with lots of exploring!

In one picture, Gaz has shared a sneak peek of the outside of his property while holding a front door key in the air.

Other shots show his girlfriend Maia adding a touch of colour to the lounge with the help of some faux flowers, while also helping out in Chester’s bedroom.

The youngster, who supports Newcastle United, has chosen a football theme and Maia was on hand to stick a personalised transfer to his wall.

Sister Primrose has been busy moving in all her teddy bears, while Gaz posed for a selfie in one of his new bathrooms with a tired-looking Maia.

Gaz has also shared a photo of his parents and kids tucking into a plate of lasagna in his large kitchen-diner, and a shot of his giant back garden.

The star has already added a goal post and a chimnea to his impressive outdoor space.

Gaz’s fans have been quick to comment on the photos, with one telling him: “What a way to start the year, congratulations on your new home. Plenty memories for your little family x.”

Another added: “Wow!! Looks amazing, well done x x.”

And a third said: “Beginning of a new chapter ❤.”

Gaz announced he had split with his wife and mother of his children, Emma, in October 2023.

The pair had started dating in 2016 and tied the knot four years later.

Gaz, who is a Geordie Shore O.G., said at the time: “We split three weeks ago.

“We are still friends, there is no bad blood or anything and we have worked out the best way of doing it for the kids, which for me and Emma is always going to be the most important thing.

“We both deserve to be happy as well as being parents.”

We revealed how Gaz was finally in talks to return to the show for this series but he later revealed he’d pulled out again and is focusing on his two children.

The pair, who sold their family home last summer, continue to co-parent Chester and Primrose and have both moved on in their personal lives.

Last year, Gaz briefly dated pro-golfer and Team GB Olympian Charley Hull but they split after a few months.

Just weeks later, he got together with Maia and whisked her abroad for a luxury five-star holiday.

While in Morocco, he asked the pretty influencer to be his girlfriend.

Emma, meanwhile, has also moved on and found love with an electrician called James.

The mum-of-two has also bought a new home and James has been busy helping her to renovate it.

His dad Martin is a rugby league legend[/caption]

His youngest son Phoenix, 15, has been snapped up by Spurs after previously being on the books of Crystal Palace, Brentford and Queens Park Rangers.

Having put pen to paper on his contract, the young striker wrote on Instagram: “Thank you to everyone who helped me along my journey.

“Happy to say that I have signed for Tottenham. Grind don’t stop now.”

His proud dad, who has passed his lightening quick pace down to his kids, said: “Another proud day in the Offiah household.

“Phoenix signs for Spurs seven months after his older brother Tyler signed for Bath Rugby. The hard work starts now my boy.”

On his journey, dad Martin previously said: “It’s been a long road for Phoenix to get this far. He played rugby union at Ealing Trailfinders, like his brother, up until the age of eight and scored a really good try at Twickenham.

“After that, he said ‘Dad, I want to play football’, but he was just as good at rugby as Tyler.

“It wasn’t for him, though, and I said, ‘It’s your life, I’ll support you on your journey’.

“So when he was about ten he got scouted by QPR and Fulham.

“He chose QPR because it was closer to home and spent two years in their development system.

“When QPR told Phoenix that he wasn’t the finished article, he was very distraught and went away to work hard on his skills.”

Phoenix’s brother Tyler, 18, is yet to make his senior rugby union debut but has featured for England‘s Under-18s.

Sport runs in the Offiah family as their cousin Odeluga is on the books of Brighton.

The 22-year-old defender has featured ten times for the Seagulls and is currently out on loan at League One outfit Blackpool.

Former world heavyweight champion who KO’d Lennox Lewis, 59, wins second comeback fight as opponent retires

He initially retired in 2019 but McCall made a surprise return in Nashville in November just days after Jake Paul beat Mike Tyson.

McCall defeated 54-year-old opponent Stacy Frazier in the second round after a fairly laboured combination of punches.

And he followed it up with a stoppage over Gary Cobia, a 52-year-old police sheriff from Utah – who now has a record of three wins and five losses.

Cobia took an uppercut in the first round which left him bleeding from the nose and unable to fight on into round two.

McCall – who won the WBC title in 1994 – now has 61 wins and 14 losses on his record as fans voiced their concern over his prolonged career.

One said: “Disgraceful.”

Another added: “Anyone over 50 should not be getting hit in the head.”

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul’s fight with Tyson was marred in controversy amid the age gap between them.

Paul, 28, won a dull points decision and McCall called out the 11-1 celebrity after his comeback victory last year.

He said: “I’ll knock Jake Paul out. Bring on Jake Paul and I wanna get revenge for Nate Robinson and then Mike Tyson. That would be awesome.”

Arsenal must achieve never-before-seen feat in Carabao Cup semi-final with odds stacked against them against Newcastle

ARSENAL must overcome a never-before-seen feat in order to progress to the Carabao Cup final.

Mikel Arteta‘s side lost the first leg of the semi-final to Newcastle 2-0 at the Emirates.

Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon netted in the clash last month to put Eddie Howe’s side in a great position.

The Gunners face the Magpies TONIGHT at St James’ Park but face an uphill battle due to the deficit.

In the history of the competition, only 24 times has a team come back from a first-leg defeat to reach the final.

On two occasions, that has been by a team that has lost at home, and both were only by one goal.

One of these was Arsenal as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in 1987 at White Hart Lane after losing 1-0 at home.

The Gunners then won the replay 2-1 away from home to reach the final.

Only once has a team come from a two-goal deficit to progress to the final.

This was in 1994 when Aston Villa recovered from a 3-1 defeat by Tranmere to win the second leg by the same scoreline and then go through after penalties.

Arteta, 42, has insisted that Arsenal have been boosted by their shock 5-1 win over Manchester City.

He also claimed that the mental state of the team is much improved from the first leg.

He said: “When you compare the emotional state of the team straight after the defeat and the manner that it happened and how we are, today is very different because we come from very strong performances, some great wins and especially the last one at home against Manchester City.

“After that game we’ll have a break so it’s the moment to go full gas.

“The next step is a final in Wembley so we know how big that is, and you can feel it straight away.

“The boost the game against City gave us, the manner that we won it, and the fact that it is a game in the competition where we are closest to a final, so we’re going to give it a real go.”

2024/25 Carabao Cup top scorers: Gakpo, Jesus, and Ince each scored 4 goals. Guedes, Nkunku, Adingra, Archer, Garnacho, and Graydon each scored 3.
