Martin Clunes’ ex wife Lucy reveals brutal final comment that ended their marriage

MARTIN Clunes’ first wife Lucy Aston has revealed a brutal comment that ended their marriage for good.

The pair tied the knot in 1990, but their marriage ended just three years later following what was described as the “final straw” during a heated row at a Chinese restaurant.

Their first year of marriage was blissful, but cracks appeared when Martin’s, 63, career took off, while Lucy continued to work in a food shop.

But it came to a head when the Doc Martin star allegedly “forgot” to invite Lucy to a party.

Lucy claimed he called her “dull and boring” as she swapped their “party animal” nights out for studying to be a crisis counsellor.

Things hit breaking point when an argument broke out between then at a restaurant and Martin allegedly told Lucy: “You are an embarrassment.”

“He told me I was boring and different and I just thought: ‘No more.’ I stood up and said ‘thanks for dinner – this is the end’ and stormed out. I sat in the car shaking with rage,” Lucy told the Mirror.

“Later I went back and Martin was sitting there, surrounded by take- away cartons filled with our meal. He just looked at me. I took off my gold wedding ring, slammed it on the table and walked out.

“We both knew it was over. I was furious when I found out he had gone to a party without telling me.

“Worse than that, he had said he was going out with just a couple of male actor friends.

“He tried to make out he had told me, but the truth is he just didn’t want me there. The sad thing is I had become an embarrassment to him.”

Martin later claimed he and Lucy had put their differences aside enough to become “friends”.

“We had a problem enjoying each other but now I can enjoy Lucy again. We are friends and can appreciate each other,” he said.

But in 2008 he called their marriage “rotten”.

He told the Mail: “I don’t know if I was searching for anything. Maybe I was. I kind of found it without looking.

“When I met Philippa I was coming out of a rotten marriage, and was very resistant to the idea of getting involved again.”

Martin went on to marry Philippa Braithwaite in 1997.

Martin told The Mirror: “We met while working together, it’s the way it’s always been for us and it’s absolutely fine.”

He added: “Yes, it’s nice spending a bit of time on the farm on my own, but all I know is that I’m happiest when Philippa is by my side.

“We usually cook together. When we have a roast on a Sunday, for instance, I’m the one in charge of the meat and the gravy!”

Martin decided to pop the question while he was doing a holiday programme and he managed to fly Philippa out to the Hawaii shoot.

Talking to Irish News, Martin recalled: “It was the longest we’d been apart, and I missed her so much that I proposed, while she was really jet lagged and in such a strange place.”

After the proposal the couple tied the knot in 1997 with a small ceremony, followed by an after-party at The Savoy hotel in London.

Do they have kids?

The couple have a daughter born in 1999, called Emily, who as a youngster appeared in one episode of Doc Martin.

According to Linkedin, the 23-year-old went to Hartpury University and studied Equine Science, Equestrian/ Equine studies.

She now works as a manager for the Cheddington Equestrian Therapy and Rehabilitation centre.

I walked in on my husband having sex with my MUM when I was pregnant with our 5th child – it had been going on for years

AFTER returning home early from a girl’s weekend, one woman was shocked at what she walked in on.

The pregnant mum found her husband in a compromising situation with her own mother, and things got even worse.

A Reddit user recalled the shocking situation she found herself in after coming home early from a girl’s trip (stock image)[/caption]

In her post, the unnamed Reddit user explained her family tree for context.

The 40-year-old revealed that she has been with her husband since they were 15, first getting pregnant at 17 and going on to have five children in total.

She added that she has six siblings, who range from 18 to 42 in age.

“I thought I had a good marriage, we were intimate more than twice a week, we went on date nights, we bought each other gifts, we didn’t fight,” she wrote.

However, she described how her “entire world was shattered” when she returned home from a trip early.

“I walked into my bedroom to find my mum having sex with my husband,” the poster explained.

She recalled how her mum even screamed at her to get out of “their” bedroom.

After her mother rushed out, the woman confronted her cheating husband.

“He told me that my mum seduced him when we were 18 and living in their house,” she said.

“They’d been having unprotected sex at least once a month for longer than we were married.”

Four red flags your partner is cheating

Private Investigator Aaron Bond from BondRees revealed four warning signs your partner might be cheating.

They start to take their phone everywhere with them

In close relationships, it’s normal to know each other’s passwords and use each other’s phones, if their phone habits change then they may be hiding something.

Aaron says: “If your partner starts changing their passwords, starts taking their phone everywhere with them, even around the house or they become defensive when you ask to use their phone it could be a sign of them not being faithful.”

“You should also look at how they place their phone down when not in use. If they face the phone with the screen facing down, then they could be hiding something.”

They start telling you less about their day

When partners cheat they can start to avoid you, this could be down to them feeling guilty or because it makes it easier for them to lie to you.

“If you feel like your partner has suddenly begun to avoid you and they don’t want to do things with you any more or they stop telling you about their day then this is another red flag.”

“Partners often avoid their spouses or tell them less about their day because cheating can be tough, remembering all of your lies is impossible and it’s an easy way to get caught out,” says Aaron.

Their libido changes

Your partner’s libido can change for a range of reasons so it may not be a sure sign of cheating but it can be a red flag according to Aaron.

Aaron says: “Cheaters often have less sex at home because they are cheating, but on occasions, they may also have more sex at home, this is because they feel guilty and use this increase in sex to hide their cheating.  You may also find that your partner will start to introduce new things into your sex life that weren’t there before.”

They become negative towards you

Cheaters know that cheating is wrong and to them, it will feel good, this can cause tension and anxiety within themselves which they will need to justify.

“To get rid of the tension they feel inside they will try to convince themselves that you are the problem and they will become critical of you out of nowhere.  Maybe you haven’t walked the dog that day, put the dishes away or read a book to your children before bedtime.  A small problem like this can now feel like a big deal and if you experience this your partner could be cheating,” warns Aaron.

After figuring out the timeline, the woman said she was “horrified” to discover her youngest three siblings could potentially be her husband’s children.

“I immediately called my dad and told him to come to my house without my mum,” she said.

“I made my husband confess and my dad was devastated.”

When the rest of her siblings found out, the shocking news divided the family.

“My dad kicked [my mum] out and she’s now living with my 38-year-old sister,” she explained.

“My dad insisted on a DNA test for the three youngest boys before he’d consider anything to do with their marriage.”

The Reddit user revealed that her 20-year-old twin brothers are her husband’s biological children.

null

“I’ve since kicked him out and he’s living with his parents,” she wrote.

“My husband is appalled and furious that I proved he actually is about to have seven kids, instead of five, and that I’m going to be taking half his business away from him.

The poster and her father were also arranging selling the family home.

“Since the house was still in my father’s name, my husband will get no money from the sale, neither will my mother,” she explained.

She described how she still felt “bitter” about the situation, saying she “despised” her ex.

“He got my mother pregnant less than a week after getting me pregnant,” the poster said.

“He has broken all trust I had in men and being faithful.

“I’ve also developed ulcers and digestive issues because of this, so I’m visiting the doctor soon and I’ve been in therapy since.”

I love expensive salon haircare as I’m a hairdresser – I just found a £3 M&S buy that’s as good as my £60 one

IS one of your goals for 2025 to grow longer and healthier locks – but you don’t want to fork out a fortune on professional haircare?

Now one hairdresser and TikToker Lanni has revealed a purse-friendly shampoo and conditioner combo which she claims is as good as posh salon range.

Bargain-mad beauty buffs can snap up this shampoo and conditioner for less than a fiver each[/caption]

Raving about the bargain deals, the dark-haired beauty took to her social media page to show off the affordable Marks & Spencer goodies.

0ne of them was M&S Volumising Shampoo which, the brand claims, ”enhances fine hair for a fuller, bountiful appearance with every wash”.

Specially formulated to lift from the roots without weighing down your locks, this sulphate and silicone-free shampoo features micro algae extract to rebalance the scalp and pink grapefruit extract with jojoba oil for weightless hydration.

Setting you back just £3 for a 300ml bottle, the haircare essential is also enhanced with the scents of orchid and waterlily for a fresh, vibrant finish.

Also going for under a fiver is the mega supermarket’s Nourishing Conditioner, which ensures silky, manageable locks with every use.

Blended with hydrating ingredients, it restores moisture and vibrancy to each strand, keeping hair healthy and lustrous.

Infused with micro algae extract to rebalance the scalp, plus bergamot water and coconut oil for added moisture.

What’s more, the budget-friendly conditioner is also sulphate and silicone-free and boasts a vegan formula.

Despite being used to spending a fortune on maintaining her enviable tresses, Lanni said she was ”impressed” by the difference the cheap shampoo and conditioner made.

”Picked these up in M&S. I normally spend so much money on my shampoo and conditioner, like a professional salon one.

”But these – honestly, just as good as my £60 ones,” said the hairdresser who rated the bargain buys with an impressive ”10/10”.

Urging fellow beauty buffs to not sleep on the £3 bargains, Lanni went on in the caption: ”My hair feels so lightweight and moisturised and every time I turn my head I can smell the most gorgeous smell.”

She said in the video: ”Girls, you have to try the new M&S haircare range – WOW!

”Just as good as, if not better, than my salon-quality ones.

”The best £3 you’ll ever spend on your hair.”

How often should you be washing your hair?

Anabel Kingsley, Consultant Trichologist and Brand President at Philip Kingsley spoke exclusively to Fabulous.

You take your hair and scalp to the same places you take your face, and it gets just as dirty.

Your scalp is also a living tissue; it sweats, produces oils and sheds skin cells.

You wouldn’t leave two days between washing your face, and you likely wouldn’t wear the same outfit more than a few times before washing it – apply the same thinking to your hair.

It is a myth that washing your hair too often causes your hair to get greasier.

‘I’ll be trying these’

Dozens of TikTok users flooded to comments where many thanked the hair pro for sharing the epic buys.

”Thank you for this! I’ve been looking for alternatives for sulphate free shampoo and conditioner- I’ll be trying these,” wrote one person.

Someone else chimed in: ”I use these, only bad thing is the bottles are really hard to squeeze it out.”

”I will definitely try these I spend so much on shampoo etc,” another said.

Former GAA star calls for radical change to how long matches are played following Jim McGuinness concerns

BRIAN LACEY has called for the duration of inter-county football matches to be cut from 70 to 60 minutes.

The former Kildare and Tipperary star also fears that weaker counties will suffer amid the increased demands on players by the game’s new rules.

Speaking after his side’s National League win over Dublin on Saturday, Donegal boss Jim McGuinness proposed that teams be able to make six substitutions instead of five with the game now more taxing following the introduction of the new rules.

Lacey served as coach and performance analyst when his native Tipp reached the All-Ireland semi-finals in 2016.

He was also part of Glenn Ryan’s backroom team in Kildare for the past three seasons.

But he said: “My one concern about the work surrounds the weaker counties.

“I think the stronger counties will get stronger on the back of these rules and, look, I’m happy enough for these rules to be implemented.

“But one thing I’m very strong about is to bring the inter-county game back from 70 minutes to 60.

“If you look at the Railway Cup games last October and you chat to guys on GPS monitoring, the number of kilometres covered, the amount of time the ball was in play, and the high-intensity running over 60 minutes was already equivalent to 70 minutes of the old rules.

“Factor in more speed and explosiveness of runs with the tap and go, and more time on the field because of stoppages and you can now be around 85 minutes on the field.”

During his playing career, Tipp man Lacey claimed two Leinster SFC medals following his move to Kildare.

He later returned to the Premier County set-up and was a member of the side that won the Tommy Murphy Cup in 2005.

He told RTÉ: “You’re going to need a strong panel with great depth, because not only will you need to rotate from game to game, you’ll also need to rotate within matches.

“And it’s going to be so hard for the lower-tier counties to try and keep pace with stronger teams in this regard.

“At least the counties would have a chance playing in 60-minute games — it would be more even.

“I feel that weaker counties will be badly affected, especially with the nature of running now involved and with having to get ready to do it all again the next week.”
