Darby’s day as Chloe leads Dublin ladies to low-scoring win over Mayo at blustery Parnell Park
IT WAS Darby day at Parnell Park as Dublin’s Chloe Darby helped seal an NFL Division 1 opening-round win over Mayo.
Darby kicked 1-3 — with Rebecca McDonnell also finding the net — to get the reign of joint-managers Paul Casey and Derek Murray off to a winning start.
Dublin captain Carla Rowe and Mayo counterpart Danielle Caldwell were withdrawn from their respective line-ups.
And the hosts carved out an early lead through Niamh Hetherton and Sophie McIntyre.
The Westerners initially struggled but opened their account when full-forward Sinéad Walsh knocked over an 11th-minute free.
Yet despite registering a number of early wides, the Sky Blues increased their advantage to three points when Jodi Egan and Darby — from a free — found the target.
Another Walsh effort kept Mayo in touch, only for the Jackies to create daylight when McDonnell smashed the ball to the net from a tight angle on 23 minutes.
But just when it seemed Dublin were in control, their lead was wiped out after Walsh followed up a brace of frees with a superb 29th-minute goal.
The sides were deadlocked on 1-4 apiece at the change of ends but Darby netted less than 20 seconds after the restart.
Mayo gained a temporary numerical advantage when Sky Blues midfielder Grace Kos was sin-binned on 35 minutes, but Liam McHale’s charges fell further adrift following points by Egan and Darby.
Mayo No 6 Sherin El Massry kicked a point just before Kos’ return.
But the Westerners were then reduced to 14 players in the final quarter when Ella Brennan fouled stand-in Dublin skipper Leah Caffrey.
Points from Walsh — who finished with 1-5 — and Aoife Geraghty did reduce Mayo’s deficit to two late on, before Darby split the posts from a free to secure victory.

Casey’s third time in the villa says it all – Love Island All Stars needs a rest, says Jessie Wynter
LOVE Island star Jessie Wynter has slammed this year’s All Stars series after watching Casey O’Gorman in the villa for a third time.
Casey has made another comeback to the ITV2 show as a bombshell but Jessie thinks his return signals that it’s time for “a break”.
The Aussie beauty appeared in Love Island alongside Casey during his first stint, watched him on All Stars last year and cannot believe he is back again.
Speaking to The Sun on behalf of Slotscalendar, Jessie said she feels this year’s All Stars series ‘isn’t giving fans what they want’ as a result.
Jessie, 28, said: “I think it’s very early on but I don’t think it’s hitting the same as last year.
“They use the title All Star. Casey’s been in the villa three times.
“I thought All Stars was meant to be a big hurrah, people we haven’t seen for a while?
“Love Island producers, what’s going on here?”
Casey first appeared in Love Island in 2023, before returning for the 2024 All Stars series.
The 28-year-old has once again strolled back into the South African villa as an early bombshell.
Upon his return, Casey immediately came under fire from Love Island alumni and new housemate Kaz Crossley.
Kaz let rip at Casey and accused him of treating Love Island girls badly, including her close friend Georgia Harrison.
Jessie says: “Casey does bring the drama.
“Since he’s left the villa, he has been hooking up with other islanders so he’s giving Ex Island.
“Where he goes the drama follows and I think the producers love that.”
But speaking about the future of the show, she added: “I think the fact that Casey has gone into All Stars two times in a row says enough.
“I think next year, if they want it to be a big success, they almost do need to give it a rest.
“It’s called All Stars. We want to see an All Stars cast rather than scrounge islanders together and put them all in there.
“It’s not what people want to see.”

At the time, one fan raged: “Casey moving like a snake I see Lmaoo.”
Another added: “Casey is egging on Will.”
This year, Casey has coupled up with 2017 islander Gabby Allen.

JACQUELINE Jossa’s marriage to Dan Osborne has been anything but smooth sailing.
While the EastEnders actress, 32, has denied recent rumours of a split, her tumultuous relationship with the former Towie star, 33, is back in the spotlight.
The star was even spotted at the gym this week without her wedding ring amid rumours she and her husband are having trouble.
Love Island All Stars’ Gabby Allen, 32, also broke her silence on a feud with Jacqueline as she admitted she’s no longer speaks to Dan, who she was pictured in 2018 getting close with on a yacht.
But the couple have faced several other challenges over the years, including further cheating allegations, social media scandals and failed vow renewals.
Gabby’s comments
Gabby, who is hoping to find her dream man as she returns to the villa, said she is no longer in contact with Dan.
She told The Sun: “That literally hasn’t crossed my mind for years.
“I feel like I’m so far removed from that situation now, that I don’t know, it’s mad that people would like even bring it up but I suppose people are interested in that aren’t they?
“I mean me and Dan were just mates, but we weren’t that good mates to like warrant continuing a friendship.”
The blonde beauty went on to wish the couple well and said she had hoped that everyone had moved on.
“It’s like that was a long time ago and we knew each other for a very short amount of time and that was it,” she shared.
“I just hope that, like, that doesn’t cause issues for, like, them because it was a very long time and I feel like everybody’s moved on and I hope they’re really happy.”
What happened between Dan and Gabby?
Jacqueline walked out on Towie star Dan after learning he’d sent Gabby a flirty message in 2020.
Love cheat Dan contacted Gabby in April that year but she did not respond.
Shortly afterwards, I’m A Celebrity winner Jacqueline secretly took out a six-month lease on a new property and moved out of the family home.
Jacqueline and Dan had a series of bust-ups while isolating before the actress moved out.
A source said: “Jacqueline has always been suspicious about Dan and other women — especially Gabby. Everything has been magnified in lockdown.
“Dan took a shine to Gabby back on that yacht but she swears blind nothing ever, ever happened — and is furious about being dragged into his mess yet again.
“They last texted shortly before Dan went to Australia to support Jac in the jungle.
“But that was all platonic from Gabby’s side.
“He did send her a suggestive message over Instagram last month which she never responded to.
“Gabby has zero interest in Dan, and she wants no association with him.
“However Dan’s intentions seem less clear.
“Jacqueline has rented a property near her parents and spent thousands on new furniture to make it feel like home.
“But Dan has begged for one final chance, and of course she wants to fight for her marriage for the sake of their kids.”
Marbella controversy
The rumours involving Gabby were just one chapter in a series of controversies that have plagued Jacqueline and Dan since they first got together in 2013.
The couple married in 2017 after a two-year engagement, tying the knot at a Cheshire manor house.
However, their marriage quickly faced challenges.
Photos of Gabby and Dan looking close on a yacht added fuel to the fire, but Dan dismissed the speculation, saying he was simply “speaking and laughing with a friend”.
Despite his explanations, the incident caused tension in his marriage to Jacqueline, who later admitted the situation had deeply affected her.
Gabby’s recent comments have brought those memories back into the public eye, with a source close to Jacqueline telling The Sun, “Gabby being back in the spotlight is the last thing Jac and Dan need and will no doubt bring back memories for Jac.”
At the time, Gabby’s ex-boyfriend Marcel Somerville accused her of cheating with Dan during their trip to Marbella, a claim both parties strongly denied.
Chloe Ayling Scandal

In December 2019, model Chloe Ayling claimed she had a threesome with Dan and US reality star Natalie Nunn during a boozy night out.

Jacqueline’s priorities during I’m A Celeb
Jacqueline became the first winner in I’m A Celebrity history to cancel live TV interviews.
Her decision came after the threesome allegations against Dan emerged.
Despite previous champions appearing on daytime shows the next day, Jacqueline is said to have refused to go on any and said she wanted to spend time with her children instead.
A source told The Mirror: “She has to film for the ‘coming out’ show which airs later this week, so cancelled all other TV offers like GMB and Lorraine to spend more time with the family.
“Jacqueline and Dan spent time together in the hotel and probably had a lot to talk about.”
The Alexandra Cane allegations
Despite these efforts, more rumours emerged.
Dan was accused of having a fling with Love Island’s Alexandra Cane in 2019, a claim he strongly denied, calling it “a load of rubbish”.
Onlookers told The Sun how the dad of two made a move on the reality star in the middle of Manchester’s Neighbourhood bar.
Dan was invited to the party along with Alexandra and a number of other stars, including Megan Barton Hanson and James Argent.
And as they hit the dancefloor, Dan made a beeline for Alexandra – leaving other partygoers stunned.
One eyewitness told The Sun: “Dan was all over Alexandra. At one point he grabbed her and kissed her.”
Another onlooker added: “He was putting his hands all on her – grinding against her and thrusting his hips.
“He’s a married man so it was pretty shocking. She didn’t seem that into it but she laughed it off.
“Everyone was talking about how he was acting. There were loads of women there but he was only interested in Alexandra.
“They left together in a taxi with a couple of friends when the party was over.”
Dan has denied he did anything but dance with Alexandra and insisted they had been mates for a while, despite him only following her on Instagram the morning after.
Failed vow renewal
The couple eventually reconciled, with Jacqueline choosing to forgive Dan for his alleged indiscretions.
Jacqueline even told The Sun how they’d planned to renew their vows after her I’m A Celeb victory, attributing the idea to wanting their children present.
She said: “The thought of it cringes me out slightly but we might do something like renew our vows when the time is right.
“We would like all five of us in the photos – we’d do it for the kids.
“It does feel like we have a new relationship though, so it might be quite nice to celebrate that.”
However, it doesn’t appear they went through with their plans.
Money woes
Dan appeared on the Essex-based reality series for two years until 2015 and then came third on the 2018 series of Celebrity Big Brother.
Making it to the finale of CBB won Dan a £60,000 pay day but was not enough to keep him out of financial trouble.
The Sun reported in 2019 his business has just £978 left on the books and his firm – Storms Entertainment – has £7,469 in debt.
Another company he owned called Charlie Entertainments was dissolved in 2017.
It went bust with undisclosed debts after HMRC petitioned the high court to put it into liquidation.

‘More female victims’ of ‘arrogant’ gym perv Shane Flynn go to cops as new concerns raised with gardai during trial
NEW concerns about the behaviour of perv gym owner Shane Flynn were raised with Gardai during his trial, The Irish Sun on Sunday can reveal.
The group of women — from all over Ireland — were waiting to see the outcome of his case before deciding to make a formal complaint.
But they will not be making any statements after the personal trainer, 35, who ran the NGS Gym and Rehabilitation Clinic in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, received a 28-month sentence for sexually assaulting a woman in January 2021.
Creep Flynn — who had 34,000 followers on Instagram — sexually assaulted the woman as she was receiving treatment for back pain.
The women who raised concerns with cops during the trial were separate to the 37 women Flynn secretly recorded when they were changing at his gym from July 2018 until August 2020.
He positioned his laptop so he could see them undressing and covertly recorded them when they were receiving treatment from him.
A source told The Irish Sun on Sunday: “Gardai met with a number of women who came forward when Flynn’s trial started last October.
“They all had serious concerns about his behaviour and if he had not been convicted of sexual assault, they would have made formal complaints. There is a lot of admiration for the woman who went to court because she didn’t want other women to be targeted by Flynn.
“Thankfully justice has prevailed and Flynn has been prosecuted for a very serious offence and his despicable behaviour has been exposed.”
Gardai have encouraged any other women who may have been sexually assaulted or secretly recorded by Flynn to come forward.
The Irish Sun on Sunday can also reveal that the perv received some support from a millionaire businessman during his trial at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court.
The source added: “The businessman was at court for a lot of the hearings.
GARDAI ‘ALWAYS TWO STEPS AHEAD’
“Flynn comes across as very arrogant and even when he was being interviewed by Gardai about the offences, he thought he was clever.
“But due to the nature of the evidence gathered, the Gardai were always two steps ahead of him.”
Flynn, who won four county championships with St Loman’s GAA club, appeared on RTE show Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week in 2019.
Ahead of the programme, he said: “I’m the type of leader that thrives on pressure.
VICTIM ‘MADE WORLD SAFER’
“If someone with a weaker personality says that Shane Flynn is very cocky, I can’t do anything about that. I’ve got to keep driving on who I am.”
Following his conviction, Judge Ronan Munro said Flynn’s victim had “made the world a safer place” over her decision to come forward.
After completing his sentence, Flynn must remain under probation supervision for one year and complete a sexual offending treatment.
But Judge Munro also told the court how his exploitation of his victim’s vulnerability was “particularly insidious”.
FLYNN ‘CROSSED THE LINE’
In a moving victim impact statement to the court, his victim said: “After this happened to me I completely lost my spark and became increasingly anxious. He entered a not guilty plea when all along he has been guilty.
“Shane Flynn tried to lie about the entire assault and portray me as the person who was wrong, the person who crossed the line when in fact it was him. It’s the most vulnerable position I have ever been in my life.”
The probe into Flynn was run by the Gardai’s Divisional Protective Services team in Meath and Westmeath.
