Thousands of Palestinians return to ‘demolition site’ Gaza amid tense peace after Trump’s shock plan to ‘clean out’ area

THOUSANDS of Palestinians are returning to some of the most heavily destroyed parts of Gaza amid Israel’s fragile ceasefire with Hamas.

It comes after Israel lifted its closure of the north for the first time since the early weeks of the 15-month war.

Huge crowds of people have been pictured walking with their belongings in hand along a main road that runs along the coast in scenes reminiscent of the mass exodus more than a year ago.

Yasmin Abu Amshah said she walked 6km to reach her home in Gaza City, where she found it badly damaged but still habitable.

The mum-of-three said: “It was a long trip, but a happy one. The most important thing is that we returned.”

Tens of thousands of Palestinians fled their homes in the north after Israel unleashed its retaliation for the October 7 atrocity.

They have been sheltering in squalid tent camps and schools-turned-shelters for more than a year.

Thousands are now taking the long coastal route on foot after Israel opened routes through the Netzarim Corridor, eager to return to their homes.

Many have likely been damaged or destroyed, however.

Others in cars have been directed to use Salah al-Din Street – but all flooding back in have been warned to avoid all areas where forces are deployed.

Many feared their exodus from Gaza would be permanent – fuelled by Donald Trump’s idea to resettle huge numbers of Palestinians in Egypt or Jordan.

Describing Gaza as a “demolition site”, the newly-inaugurated president revealed radical plans to “clean out” the strip.

He said: “You’re talking about probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing.

“Almost everything is demolished and people are dying there.”

Trump called on neighbouring Arab nations to take in more Palestinians.

He said: “I’d like Egypt to take people. And I’d like Jordan to take people.”

The president added that the move “could be temporary” or “long-term”.

Both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority condemned Trump’s proposal.

The pre-war population of Gaza was over two million people and over 45,000 people have been killed since October 7, 2023, according to the United Nations.

Trump’s plans would be a stark change from the US’s previous policy which promoted a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.

But many have seen today’s return as repudiation of Trump’s suggestion.

Ismail Abu Matter, a father of four who waited for three days near the crossing point before moving north with his family, described scenes of jubilation on the other side.

He said people were singing, praying and crying as they were reunited with relatives.

The opening was delayed for two days over a dispute between Hamas and Israel, which said the terror group changed the order of the hostages it released.

Mediators resolved the dispute overnight.

The ceasefire is aimed at winding down the deadliest and most destructive war ever fought between Israel and Hamas and securing the release of dozens of hostages captured in the October 7 attack.

Six more hostages are set to be released this week, in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

Muireann didn’t realise the blouse was see-through

Muireann, who is renowned for her trendy TV looks, took to Instagram to reveal her latest outfit for the episode.

However, the 41-year-old admitted she had a slight wardrobe malfunction when it came to trying on her chosen outfit.

The popular presenter put on a brown cheetah print blouse only to quickly realise it was totally see-through.

The funny lady wrote in her caption: “Morning! Had no idea the top was see through so frantic look for a body top to save the blushes. My telly bras are manky.”

Fortunately, the Virgin Media star solved the issue by adding a black vest top underneath.

Muireann opted to style the blouse with a pair of black tailored trousers from Mango.

She also added a pair of elegant black stilettos and a pair of diamond hoop earrings.

The Irish host also had her new cropped bob hair styled in loose curls and wore a natural make-up.

Fans were all obsessed with the star‘s elegant outfit as they reacted in the comment section.

Lisa wrote: “Loved your outfit today! So glam Muireann.”

Ellen said: “Muireann you really are a style icon.”

Sinead added: “Fabulous you look amazing.”

While Hannnah remarked: “Very Parisian and the hair… c’est magnifique.”

Over the weekend, Muireann had to clarify that she and her long-time “housemate” are not married despite fan speculation.

The 42-year-old has been in a ten-year-long relationship with her partner who she affectionately refers to as her “housemate”.

STAR’S CONFESSION

The pair got engaged in 2021 and have since been looking for a house to buy.

Muireann and her “housemate” were due to head out for the night to meet friends for some drinks.

But, before heading out, Muireann spoke to her fans about the final episode of The Traitors.

She said: “Hi this is not a spoiler, but last night we were watching The Traitors and the housemate was on it, he was like, ‘OK it’s on half-an-hour earlier tomorrow night, we’ve got to be ready for it, wine in the fridge… that kind of stuff’.

“And then I broke the news that we actually have plans tonight and that we had to go out and he’s delighted and I won’t be looking at my phone until I get home later on.”

However, Muireann didn’t realise that Instagram‘s auto captions had changed her referring to her “housemate” to husband, which began a night long confusion for her fans.

As her night continued Muireann shared a sly snap of her partner and her sitting at a table at the Intercontinental in Dublin.

‘MY HUSBAND’

Muireann then posed for a quick snap in the five-star hotel toilets showing off her chic forest green top and midi skirt combo.

After her night out, Muireann took to Instagram this morning to address some questions she had gotten over the course of her night.

Still in bed and covering her face, she said: “Hiya, not married, just hungover. I must have used the word ‘Husband’ on a story and lots of questions.

“I do think of him as my husband. I’m just not spending stupid money for the privilege of saying it.

“We’re almost a decade in lads. We’re too lazy to look for something better.”

As it seems children these days are developing more and more of an expensive taste from a young age.

One bargain hunting mum has hit the jackpot at Asda, as she’s managed to walk away with £100 worth of gifts for just 38p.

She managed to find a popular kids toy for just 2p, when it usually retails for £5 and quickly filled up her trolley with the goods.

Kat Pearson posted her jaw-dropping haul to Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, and wrote: “Huge thank you to the lady who posted about these in Asda scanning through at 2p!

“Should have cost £5 each so £100! And cost me 38p!

“Got my daughter one and thought for any parties she goes to.”

The eagle-eyed bargain hunter uploaded a pic of her presents, 20 Real Littles Backpack toys.

The adorable small backpacks contain mini collectable items – such as tiny lunch boxes, mini drink bottles, scented stickers and more.

The shiny bags all come with working zippers and a clip to attach them to your bag or jeans.

They’re popular with children who like to swap the mini collectables inside.

The tiny backpacks make great birthday presents, and Kat said she planned to use them as gifts for her daughters friends.

Users online couldn’t believe that clever Kat had nabbed the lot for just 38p.

“Wow! These were £6 before!” one person wrote.

Someone else said: “Nice to see people posting about possible bargains, restores faith in people.”

Another person chimed in: “I always buy extra for parties too! Wish I’d have seen these and scanned them yesterday.”

Although not everybody was impressed with the size of Kat’s haul.

“None left now though, you got them all,” one person joked.

“Why do you have to buy so many?” another person asked.

How much do experts advise spending on a child’s birthday?

A study by major toy retailer TK Maxx revealed that one in three parents admit to spending less on presents for their own children and their children’s friends compared to five years ago.

Average Spend: Parents spend an average of £175 on birthday gifts for their kids, while presents for their children’s friends can cost up to £95 a year, adding extra strain on household finances.

Gifts and Parties: Children receive around 12 presents per birthday, and parents take their kids to an average of four birthday parties annually.

Top Five Gifts Parents Buy for Children:

Clothes: 49%

Books: 46%

Technology: 39%

Traditional Board Games: 38%

Remote Controlled Toys: 26%

Dolls: 25%

How Much Should You Spend on a Child’s Birthday?

Experts generally suggest keeping birthday spending reasonable and within the family’s budget. A common guideline is to spend around £10 to £20 per year of the child’s age. For example:

5-year-old: £50 to £100

Remember, the focus should be on creating memorable experiences rather than adhering strictly to a spending rule.

Simple, thoughtful, and creative celebrations can often be just as enjoyable and meaningful for the child.

Alejandro Garnacho’s Man Utd exit will spark mini transfer merry-go-round with two new arrivals and another star leaving

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO leaving Manchester United could be the spark to light a fire of transfer movement at Old Trafford.

Garnacho, 20, appears to be edging closer to an exit from United in the coming days after being linked with Chelsea and Napoli.

Man Utd fans have been hesitant to get on board with losing one of their brightest talents, but it may get the ball rolling on some much-needed arrivals at Old Trafford.

Given his status as an academy graduate, Garnacho would represent pure profit on Man Utd’s books with regard to FFP and PSR rulings if sold.

Meaning Garnacho’s proposed £60m transfer fee would, in theory, unlock huge spending power for manager Ruben Amorim.

That is because when clubs buy players, the transfer fees are amortised over the term of the contract for accounting purposes – effectively spreading the cost.

TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: STAY UP TO DATE WITH ALL THE LATEST MOVES FROM THE JANUARY WINDOW

So should United splash £40m on a new full-back on a five-year deal, they are able to split that cost over the course of the contract at just £8m per season.

That means that a £60m could be used to fund one year of amortisation on £300m of spending on players signing five-year deals at Old Trafford.

According to Sky Sports, a Garnacho exit this month could already get the ball rolling on that spending.

They claim that if the Argentine makes a switch to Chelsea, then the Blues could open the door to allow Christopher Nkunku to head the other way and possibly join Man Utd on loan.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS

A permanent move for Nkunku is thought to be highly unlikely as United would be keen to use the funds for a left wing-back instead.

The sale of Garnacho would boost United’s transfer kitty and therefore their chances of bringing in full-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce this month.

The Red Devils have reportedly had a £25.3m bid rejected by Lecce for the defender, with the Serie A side holding out for a fee closer to £33.6m.

Any funds from Garnacho would help them to return to negotiations and table a new offer for their target.

While if Dorgu does arrive, then it would free up out-of-favour Tyrell Malacia to leave the club on loan.

Sky claim that a number of European clubs have expressed interest in signing the Dutchman on loan should Dorgu arrive.

The transfer merry-go-round would all be started by a Garnacho exit, something that Amorim has left the door open for.

Quizzed on if Garnacho will leave before the deadline after United’s 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday, Amorim said: “That, nobody knows. Anything can happen.

“He is improving in every part of the game: the understanding, when to defend. I am trying to find the best position for him. Today he played a bit open, not so inside. We need guys who can play one v one.”

Another rare ‘planetary parade’ is coming very soon with a seventh planet joining the mix for a spectacular alignment

ANOTHER, even rarer, ‘planet parade’ is set to grace skies very soon.

For one night only, all seven other planets in the Solar System will align in the night sky at the same time.

Illustration of planetary parade showing Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Mercury, Uranus, Neptune, and the Moon in the night sky.

This month, six planets have been visible in the sky – and will be joined by Mercury in a few weeks’ time.

Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune, Saturn and Mercury will be strung across the sky in an arc shape on 28 February.

Although just five planets, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Mercury, will be visible to the naked eye.

Uranus and Neptune are never visible to the naked eye, as they are simply too far away from Earth.

However, with a good pair of binoculars or a telescope, you may be in luck.

It’s not uncommon for a few planets to align – all it requires is for them to be on the same side of the Sun as the Earth.

But it’s quite rare for six planets to align, and even rarer for seven.

Mars, Venus and Jupiter will be easy to spot on 28 February.

Venus will be the brightest in the sky, shining twice as bright as the North Star, Polaris.

It will be followed by Jupiter, glowing only slightly brighter than Polaris.

Venus, Jupiter and Saturn will appear as bright-white points of light, like stars.

While Mars will have a distinct orange glow.

What causes the alignment?

Planets are constantly moving, which means their paths occasionally cross into an alignment in Earth's sky.

Dr Dan Brown, an astronomy expert here at Nottingham Trent University, explained to The Sun: “All planets including Earth move in more or less the same plane in our solar system.

“So that from our perspective the planets are always very close to the apparent path of the Sun in the sky also known as the ecliptic.

“This means they will always be along this line.

“You could compare it with cars on a straight road.

“Since they can only drive on the road they will always be found along the road in more or less a line.

“What varies is how close they are to each other and when we can see them.”

Tips to view ‘planet parade’

Head outside early to allow your eyes to adjust to the dark.

This way you’ll be able to see Saturn, which won’t be as bright as Mars, Venus and Jupiter.

While binoculars or telescopes can allow you to see the planets in all their glory, they can also limit the portion of the sky you can see.

The best time to go outside and look will be just after sunset.

Jupiter is scheduled to set at roughly 6:30pm GMT / EST in the UK and the US.

Mercury’s placement will be low on the horizon, meaning it will also set and dip out of visibility at about 7pm GMT / EST.
