Ireland backed to thrive under ‘big part of success’ Simon Easterby despite absence of ‘best in the world’ Andy Farrell
DAVID HUMPHREYS knows that any team in the world would miss Andy Farrell – but he thinks Ireland will be fine without him.
Ireland kick off their Six Nations campaign on Saturday against England as they look to make it three Championships in a row without inspirational head coach Farrell.
![Andy Farrell, Ireland's head coach, before a rugby match.](https://www.thesun.ie/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2025/01/ff4b3da3-a746-4758-b174-8b2f22431227.jpg?strip=all&w=737)

He is on secondment as he takes charge of the Lions this summer as assistant coach Simon Easterby steps up temporarily for the Championship and this summer’s tour.
But IRFU Performance Director Humphreys has so much confidence in Farrell’s coaching staff that he does not think Farrell’s absence will not be too keenly felt.
He said: “Andy Farrell will be missed for any coaching team. In my opinion he’s the best rugby coach in the world and that’s why he’s become such an important part of what we do.
“Yes, Andy isn’t here but nothing else has changed.
“Simon has been a big part of the success over the last few years, he has head coach experience and I have no doubt he’ll thrive under the pressure that will come with head coach over the next few weeks.
“Having been on the Emerging Ireland tour and seen how Simon and Paulie (O’Connell) and Andrew Goodman work together, I have absolutely no doubt it will be an easy transition in the next few months.”
Humphreys is also confident that Ireland will be much better in the next seven weeks that they were in last November’s Series.
While Ireland won three of four games as they beat Argentina, Fiji and Australia after a loss to New Zealand, performances fell well below expectations in Farrell’s final games.
But Humphrys is confident that is an aberration due to an unusual build-up as players’ seasons started late due to the extended 2023-24 campaign.
He added: “When the review was taken of the November series, when you look before that, coming into that competition, the provinces weren’t playing particularly well, some of our key players were probably struggling a bit with their form.
“Compare that with the last month where I think you’ve seen a lot of our top players playing really well in Europe.
“That’s why we’re going into the Six Nations in a really good spot. The players are playing with a lot more confidence that comes from having played well.”
Amir Khan reveals talks with KSI’s camp and opens door to shock fight after controversial Wayne Bridge bout collapses
AMIR KHAN is open to a shock fight against KSI – if the price is right.
The British boxing legend retired in 2022 following defeat to long-time rival Kell Brook.

But he has been linked with a comeback ever since and last year became a surprise name in the running to face KSI.
Khan revealed talks were ongoing only for no offer to be made – and he is keeping the door open if the money makes sense.
He told SunSport in Dubai: “That’s the thing I don’t understand, they just call my name but they don’t wanna give an offer, you know what I mean?
“How can you really take something seriously if there’s no offer given or they don’t want to talk?
“At the end of the day, look we’re prize fighters, we talk numbers.
“If the numbers match then yeah, it’s a fight, but if not, then if it’s all just hype and talk, it’s not gonna work.
“But look, yeah there was talks about it and they asked me a question, if I’ll be up for it. Yeah, I mean look, I’m a fighter.
“Every fighter is up for a fight so yeah, let’s see.”

Khan, 38, was beaten in six rounds by Brook, also 38, in his last fight.
And he served a two-year ban after testing positive for ostarine – a substance known to build muscle mass and increase stamina.
An independent tribunal accepted Khan’s argument that he did not knowingly take the substance – ruling out “deliberate or reckless conduct”.
KSI, 31, meanwhile is yet to return since suffering defeat for the first time, losing a disputed decision to Tommy Fury, 25, in October 2023.
He was due to fight YouTuber Slim Albaher, 30, and former MMA fighter Anthony Taylor, 35, in a wild TWO-on-one bout.
But he pulled out last summer due to a hand injury – which he has now recovered from.
There was talks about it and they asked me a question, if I’ll be up for it. Yeah, I mean look, I’m a fighter. Every fighter is up for a fight so yeah, let’s see.
Amir Khan on KSI fight
The social media sensation-turned-boxer is in line to return to the ring in March – and ex-Chelsea star Wayne Bridge was due to be his opponent.
They even faced off in the ring at Misfits 20 in January – where KSI controversially brought up Bridge’s infamous feud with John Terry.
KSI referenced an alleged 2009 affair between Terry and Bridge’s ex-partner Vanessa Perroncel.
Former model Vanessa – who shares a 18-year-old son Jayden with Bridge – has always denied the alleged affair with Terry.
Bridge, 44, later pulled out of the bout due to KSI’s personal attack.
It leaves the co-founder of Misfits Boxing – home to celebrity-style crossover bouts – in need of an opponent.
And 34-6 Khan added: “It’s hard to motivate yourself for a fight like that because it’s not really a big, big fight.
“And it’s obviously a fight that you’re gonna go into and probably just lace them guys up.
“But they did say that they were interested in doing it – but like I said, let’s see.”

Darts star who faced two-year ban for positive drug test free to return at World Masters after just one month
DARTS star Dom Taylor is free to return to the oche for the Winmau World Masters after serving just a one month ban for failing a drug test.
Taylor was forced to pull out of the Players Championship Finals in November after failing a drugs test on the eve of the tournament.

The highly-rated thrower was due to face off against former world champion Michael Smith at the time.
Taylor returned a positive sample for a banned substance and was subject to a full hearing from the Darts Regulatory Authority (DRA).
The 26-year-old admitted his breaches of the anti-doping rules at the hearing.
Taylor was initially handed a two-year ban for his first offence, but has since seen that reduced to just one month.
The reduction in ineligibility comes after Taylor was able to prove that the substance was not performance enhancing and was taken outside of competition – taking his punishment down to three months.
A further reduction down to one month was sanctioned after Taylor committed to completing a three-month Substance of Abuse treatment program approved by UKAD.
A statement from the DRA read: “In the circumstances, the Committee determined that Mr Taylor will be subject to a one-month ban.
“This is conditional on his completion of an appropriate UKAD approved treatment program.

“Should Mr Taylor not complete this course within the next four months, then the ban shall be extended by an additional two months.
“Mr Taylor should also be liable for the costs of these proceedings”
Taylor can now return to action after serving his one-month ban and is eligible to take part in the World Masters this week.
The tournament gets underway this Thursday in Milton Keynes and Taylor has been confirmed by the PDC as a entrant for the second round of the Preliminary Rounds Entries.

New English campsite with adult-only huts is just five minutes from the beach
A NEW campsite on the edge of the Lake District is minutes away from a huge beach – and don’t expect to see many kids running around either.
The luxury shepherd’s hut in the countryside offers a peaceful escape because it’s adults-only.
![Sheep in frosty field with shepherd's hut in background.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Guards-Farm-Hidden-Huts.jpg?strip=all&w=960)

Found in Cumbria, the tiny campsite is on a working farm with cows, sheep, horses and chickens.
The panelled hut might be small and cosy, but still has a king-size bed and ensuite bathroom as well as a fully equipped kitchen and living area.
Outside, you’ll find a wood-fired hot tub, firepit and griddle.
If you’re more of an animal-lover, you’re in luck – the website reads: “Although kids aren’t allowed here, dogs are very welcome.”
A five-minute walk away from the hut is the village of Dunnerholme, which has a sandy beach perfect for swimming.
Around the corner is the Dunnerholme Golf Club which someone praised as a “10 hole golf course with bags of character”.
They were particularly impressed with the “spectacular view, with impressive Lake District hills as the main backdrop”.
Dunnerholme is also home to some historic landmarks, including a 12th-century castle.
The town of Ulverston is also a short drive away, where you’ll find a historic bobbin mill and lighthouse.
In the woods is an internationally renowned meditation centre where you can enjoy a 15-minute guided meditation for free.

We found that Ulverston also has a pub, The Stan Laurel, dedicated to Laurel and Hardy.
The traditional inn is filled with Laurel and Hardy memorabilia, as well as real ales and home-cooked meals.
Ulverston also has a drive-through ice cream parlour and lots of summer festivals.
Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve is around the corner too and is home to rare plants, butterflies and wildflowers.
It’s a great place for beachcombing and birdwatching too.
Nearby is the charming village of Coniston – which has royal ties as Kate Middleton used to go there on family holidays.
The lake, Coniston Water, is where you can either hop on a motor boat or try your hand at kayaking and paddle boarding.

For those who aren’t a fan of water there are also electric and pedal bikes for hire around Coniston and lots of routes to explore.
Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway is less than half an hour away, and you can climb aboard a steam train.
A single adult fare is just £12, and train tickets can also be bought with attractions to the Lakes Aquarium, boat trips to both Bowness and Ambleside, and The World of Beatrix Potter.
For anyone after adventure, there’s also Grizedale Forest where you’ll find mountain bike trails and a Go Ape course.
You can book the Shepherd’s Hut from £100 per night on pitchup.com.
