FORMER Chelsea wonderkid Charly Musonda, once tipped to follow in Eden Hazard’s footsteps, has retired from football.
Musonda announced his retirement from professional football at just 28 years old.

The Belgian forward revealed the heart-wrenching news, explaining that years of injuries had left him with no choice but to hang up his boots — despite still being young.
In an emotional video posted on Rising Ballers, Musonda said: “I’ve got a big announcement today.
“It’s not easy but it’s something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. After reflecting on my experiences and who I am, I’ve realised I want to live with purpose to inspire and motivate others.”
Musonda admitted that leaving Chelsea “killed” him, and his career has been overshadowed by a string of injuries and loan moves that never quite worked out.
The emotional winger spoke about his Chelsea exit: “The exit killed me. It killed me mentally. It was the worst thing.
“I was obviously with the reserves at that time so the plan was to pick up with the reserves, get some training in and if there were a few games where I could fit in toward the back end of the season, that was the plan.
“Because I literally had just gotten better. I came back in December-January and was training with the reserves.
“Feeling amazing, happy to be back—obviously it was a long way for me to be fully fit, but just being able to train was amazing.

“The first team was doing really well. It was COVID, so the buildings were split and you wouldn’t really see the first team.
“Then toward the back end of the season in the car park I ran into Thomas Tuchel, the manager.
“They were getting ready for the semi-final of the Champions League and he just said, ‘How are you feeling? How are things going?.
“It was my first time meeting him. He said, ‘I’m looking forward to seeing you back and I said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll be back for pre-season.
“Because in my mind, it was always pre-season and I’d be back with the first team and we’d see from there.
“So I came back for pre-season and that’s where things got tricky. That was the end of my time at Chelsea.”

Despite the pain, Musonda isn’t bitter, instead, he’s channelling his experiences into helping the next generation.
He added about his future plans: “I want to do things with purpose. I want to inspire people and create opportunities.
“I’m still young but I want to help players who don’t have the chance to showcase their talent.
“I know how it feels and with football changing so much, many players never get the opportunity to show what they can do, I want to make a difference.”
Once hailed as one of the brightest prospects in European football, Musonda’s potential was often compared to that of Hazard’s during his early days at Stamford Bridge.

However, a series of setbacks-including loan spells at Real Betis and Vitesse Arnhem, meant his career never reached the heights everyone expected.
Despite flashes of brilliance during his time away from Chelsea, Musonda made only a handful of appearances for the Blues and his once-promising future faded into disappointment.
It’s the end of a career that promised so much but ultimately never delivered.
However, Musonda’s drive to give back could help the next generation avoid the pitfalls that derailed his own career.

Meanwhile, punters have been left devastated after a popular Irish pub served its final pint.
The Ramble Inn in Halfway, Co Cork, called last orders as the boozer closed its doors for good.
The traditional Irish pub, which was renowned for its rich character and charm, finished up on Sunday night, June 8.
Its closure marked the end of a 44-year era under Alan and Mary Barry’s stewardship.
Previous owners had included the Sullivan and Hanely families.
Speaking about the closure, Alan listed some of the reasons for pubs’ demise across the country.
He continued: “Home drinking has become very, very popular, especially since the pandemic, and I blame the supermarkets and cheap drink for that.
“It’s sad to see what’s happening with the pubs throughout rural Ireland. It’s the way of life gone, you know?
“All these places made a living. That’s during the famine. And they kept the doors open. Now we’re closing them.”

GERMAN wonderkid Nelson Weiper is on the radar of THREE Premier League clubs.
The 20-year-old Mainz ace is turning heads around Europe following his form and his performances at the Under-21 European Championships.
APNelson Weiper is on the transfer list of three Premier League clubs[/caption]
He appeared in six matches and netted four goals during the tournament in Slovakia, two behind Bayern Munich-linked team-mate Nick Woltemade.
His aerial prowess was on display against England in Saturday’s final, where he scored a great header in first-half injury time to get his nation back in the game.
But SunSport understands scouts from Tottenham, Brentford and West Ham are now closely monitoring Weiper.
All three think he could be a strong addition to their squad and are poised to move this summer.
Since debuting for Mainz in October 2022, Weiper has built a steady foundation, playing 37 times in the Bundesliga and scoring five goals, combining size, strength and smart movement.
His qualities as a target man, strong in the air, adept at hold-up play, capable of drop‑offs and linking with team-mates, mean he could be a perfect fit for the Premier League.
The player is likely cost around £12million, with Mainz expected to push for add-on clauses in any deal to ensure they receive more cash if he goes on to play for the senior national team.

Weiper is another one of Mainz’s young superstars, along with Brajan Gruda, who recently moved to Brighton for £30m last summer, making 21 league appearances for the Seagulls.
He was untouchable in the youth leagues in Germany and has been rewarded with minutes in the Bundesliga.
SkyGermany reported last month how several clubs have been monitoring Weiper.
The striker reportedly caught the eye of Cesc Fabregas’ Serie A side Como, who are weighing up a potential bid.
A clause in Weiper’s contract would enable Mainz to extend the player’s contract until 2026.
And it’s believed Die Nullfünfer’s boss, Christian Heidel, doesn’t want to sell the youngster and would prefer to keep him.

ITVLydia Dingle returned to the village today in a shock development[/caption]
ITVThe cleaner hasn’t been seen for months on screen[/caption]
She was last seen on screen in March but even that was a one-off from her unannounced exit in February.
But in today’s episode actress Karen Blick made her long-awaited and surprise return as Lydia.
And she’s explained why she was gone.
Walking into the cafe she ran into Joe Tate who made a crack about dusting to which Lydia swiftly shut him down.
And then reuniting with her friend Kim Tate, the pair slid into old habits.
Kim revealed to viewers that Lydia had been away caring for her mother who had fallen ill apparently.
Lydia told her: “Well, she’s back to bossing me about and giving me the running commentary on every last twinge.”
And she revealed that she wouldn’t be back permanently – but leaving again on and off for her caring duties.
“I’ll be to-ing and fro-ing a bit, but she’s definitely on the mend,” she added.
And Lydia wasted no time in working out that Kim was hiding a new man – and demanded the gossip immediately.
With Lydia back, Kim’s new man will take centre stage as the mystery of who he is deepens.
But will Lydia be the one to work out who exactly is wooing multi-millionaire schemer Kim?
