People might not know him well, but for the wife and editor of author Robert Jordan, Sanderson was the only author capable of finishing her late husband’s work.
The Wheel of Time was a collection of fourteen high fantasy novels written primarily by iconic author Robert Jordan and co-authored by Brandon Sanderson, who wrote the final three installments of the saga. With the cancellation of Amazon’s The Wheel of Time, Brandon Sanderson had some thoughts to share.
Brandon Sanderson shared his thoughts on The Wheel of Time
Led by Rosamund Pike, The Wheel of Time debuted on Amazon Prime Video in 2021 to average ratings from fans and critics alike. Although the show was set in stone, a lack of promotion and interest caused the viewership to suffer.

Through it all, a second season was announced and released because they couldn’t leave the show half-ended. With the same philosophy, a third season was released with low viewership and not good results.
That’s when news started spreading that The Wheel of Time had stopped production and had been canceled until the end of time. During his talks on YouTube, Brandon Sanderson discussed the news of the cancellation of the fourth season of The Wheel of Time.
I wasn’t really involved,” he began. “Don’t know anything more than what is public. They told me they were renegotiating, and thought it would work out. Then I heard nothing for two months. Then learned this from the news like everyone else.
He continued,
I do think it’s a shame, as while I had my problems with the show, it had a fanbase who deserved better than a cancellation after the best season.
When Robert Jordan died in 2007, his wife approached Sanderson to finish the novel that her late husband had started. Although The Wheel of Time was supposed to end with 12 novels in total, Sanderson divided Jordan’s final notes into three novels and created a total of 14.
While it is true that the first two seasons of The Wheel of Time weren’t the best that the show had to offer, the third season was actually really good. However, it seems that Amazon MGM Studios didn’t have the money.
Brandon Sanderson wasn’t even involved in The Wheel of Time!
It seems like Amazon MGM Studios has a knack for doing these things. Even Peter Jackson wasn’t involved in the creation of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and neither was Brandon Sanderson.

Samderson, who essentially finished the whole saga with the final three novels, wasn’t approached by Amazon to even be a part of the show as a supervisor for reasons unknown.
Sanderson also touched up on that fact in his video when the author nonchalantly stated that he wasn’t a part of the show.
I won’t miss being largely ignored; they wanted my name on it for legitimacy, but not to involve me in any meaningful way.
Well, despite a great third season, the show didn’t have quite the numbers that they wanted to achieve. Considering the high-budget show, which was made with utmost care and attention to detail, turned into something disappointing because some things were lacking.
Starring Rosamund Pike in the lead role alongside an ensemble cast of several actors, The Wheel of Time currently stands at a rating of 7.2/10 on IMDb and a whopping 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Wheel of Time is available to stream on Prime Video (USA).
