Brad Pitt Admits What Happened When He Raced Tom Cruise in Go Kart in His Prime

After Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Brad Pitt arrives with his tentpole film F1 later this month. The racing film received much hype from Cruise, who earlier shared that he and Pitt used to race each other on go-karts during the filming of Interview with the Vampire. Pitt has now revealed the result of those little racing matches between the two actors.

The camaraderie between the two actors definitely put to rest the baseless rumors of a feud between them during the 1994 film. Pitt also suggested that he would be open to working with Cruise again, but on one very hilarious condition. However, it will take another few years before we see such a collaboration.

Brad Pitt‘s new film F1 is closing in on its release date, and the actor is promoting the film at various events and platforms. He collaborates with Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer for this big-budget project. In recent months, the film has been getting significant promotion from Tom Cruise, who talked about F1 during multiple interviews.

When Pitt was asked about Cruise’s generous praises for the film during an interview with E! News, he shared that Cruise was so “sweet” for doing that. Further, he also added an interesting bit of information, “We did have our go-kart days. Back in the ’90s, early ’90s.” The reporter asked him the question that we all wanted answers for: “Who was faster?”

Pitt shared that Cruise would win these matches, sharing, “He got me in the end. I gotta tell you. I gotta admit.” During his appearance on Paramount 2025’s panel earlier, Cruise also shared the story of racing Pitt during their days of filming together. He was expressing his excitement for Pitt’s film F1 when he recalled his go-kart racing matches with Pitt (via CinemaBlend):

Brad’s got a new movie, Formula 1, with Jerry Bruckheimer, Joe Kosinski. I can’t wait to see that this summer. It’ll be awesome. It’s great to see Brad driving. He’s very good. He’s a very good driver. Believe me, I’ve raced against him. When we were doing Interview with the Vampire, we’d go and race go-karts. We’d literally finish and go drive go-karts all night.

It wasn’t the first time that Cruise praised Pitt’s F1. He has been promoting the film throughout his interviews and promotions for Mission: Impossible 8. Earlier, director Christopher McQuarrie shared during a panel at Cannes that Cruise understood that “nobody wins unless everybody wins” (via That Shelf/YouTube).

Fans saw Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt unite for the only time in their career in the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire. They have had a very successful career trajectory since then, but they never came together for a film again. It was even rumored that a feud between them on the set of the 1994 film was the reason the stars never worked together again.

When Pitt was asked during his interview with E! News about a potential collaboration with Cruise, he shared one hilarious condition. Pitt shared:

Well, I’m not going to hang my a** off airplanes and sh*t like that, so when he does something again, that’s on the ground.

Not many fans know that Joseph Kosinski was planning a film with both Cruise and Pitt as far back as 2013. Cruise and Pitt were tapped for Kosinski’s racing film, Go Like Hell. However, we got to see a different version of this film in James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari.

F1 is set to be released in theaters in the United States on June 27, 2025.
