Bandai Namco’s ‘The Blood of Dawnwalker’ Promises to Revive the Vampire Genre for Bloodthirsty Fans

After the announcement of Xbox Ally’s announcement from Sarah Bond (Xbox President), Bandai Namco’s “The Blood of Dawnwalker” surprisingly caught the attention at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025. For someone who’s spent countless hours in the PvP servers of V Rising, this game has the potential to revive the vampire genre. In my opinion, the dark fantasy narrative and the main protagonist’s gravitas towards narrating the story are what hooked us more than its gameplay.

Even though The Blood of Dawnwalker‘s in-game footage lasted for around two minutes, it already caused a stir in the gaming community, especially for the Vampire genre lovers. The open-world dark fantasy action role-playing title lets you unveil some mysterious secrets about Vale Signora, a fictional kingdom modeled after a medieval European setup.

The Blood of Dawnwalker: A perfect setup for the Vampire genre games

If you’ve focused on the narration part from the gameplay footage, it’s quite clear that the main protagonist, Coen, is determined to save his town from the control of the vampires. Sounds quite cliche in terms of a storyline. However, what makes it interesting is the fact that he has turned into a dawnwalker after struggling with a vampiric curse. Remember? How our favorite, Geralt of Rivia, takes the Blizzard potion before fighting the monsters.

However, the scenario is a little bit different. This time, the vampires have tried to convert Coen into one of their own, but failed massively. Instead, they’ve created a nightmare for the nightwalkers, trapped between the two worlds. And now he’s on a journey to find the evil behind these unfortunate events. Sounds interesting, right?

If you’ve played enough Vampire-based games over the past few years, they usually showcased different aspects in a modern setup. However, the concept of a daywalker is something that everyone likes and has been eagerly waiting for a long time. The feature that lets the main character roam around the city during day and night is something new in the genre.

Meanwhile, the main protagonist transforms into a mythical creature and hunts down other vampires; it massively provides the Witcher vibes. I mean, why not? The Rebel Wolves developers are the former members of CD Projekt.

Jokes aside, coming back to the main title, in an interview with GameRant, the title’s narrative director explained that they’re taking a unique take on this vampire culture. As narrated in the game footage, the mythical creatures have captured the town and want to rule the area by transforming humans into Mindless and Docile beings.

Interestingly, the game will allow you to kill important NPCs who can massively impact the outcome of the story. Does that mean the game will feature multiple endings? Well, that’s a whole new topic. One can tell that the story is going to be narrative-driven. Based on what devs have suggested, you can also find yourself diving into the side quests, even if you’re not a fan of doing those annoying and time-consuming quests.

The Blood of Dawnwalker has the perfect setup to experience medieval times

Yes, you’ve heard it right, you can actually get a taste of the medieval times with The Blood of Dawnwalker. If you look at the Vampire-based games from the past, most of those embrace a modernistic approach. However, this time, “a small studio” lets us experience the Middle Ages and the culture around that time. If you’re a fan of titles like Ghost of Tsushima or Sekiro, you’ll surely enjoy the game’s atmosphere. Those who were getting fed up with the modernization of the Vampire genre can now experience the classic buildings, castles, and many more old-school setups.

Most fans seem excited for its release, and the upcoming title seems very promising just from its pre-beta footage. It features some of the most exciting game mechanics from your favorite video games from other publishers, such as Dishonored, Prince of Persia, Sekiro, The Witcher series, and many more. It goes without saying that the developers of Rebel Wolves have done a pretty fantastic job with the title’s gameplay and narrative.

Earlier, the developers provided us with a cinematic trailer of The Blood of Dawnwalker. Even though that was enough to add this title wishlist as a vampire-genre connoisseur, Bandai Namco has a gameplay reveal event scheduled for June 21, 2025. It’ll be exciting to see what awaits us before we take a deep dive into the medieval ages.

Does The Blood of Dawnwalker look promising to you? Do you think it’ll feature multiple endings like several AAA titles, or is it just another Vampire-based title? Let us know in the comments.
