Ana de Armas’ turn as a badass assassin is just what you might want to see in theaters now. She plays Eve Macarro in the John Wick spinoff movie, Ballerina. As expected, there are a number of stars returning from the original movies, including Ian McShane’s Winston Scott. McShane shared the one role of De Armas that impressed him before Ballerina.
In 2021, the Blonde actress played the Bond girl in Daniel Craig’s No Time to Die, although she is not too keen on that description for her in the film. Interestingly, not everyone was happy with her role in that film, not because of her fault, but because of the duration of her role.
Ian McShane’s comment on Ana de Armas’ No Time to Die role

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is now out in theaters, and it has received praise for the performance of Ana de Armas. The film explores the daughter of two assassins, Eve Macarro, who trains as a Ballerina with the Ruska Roma to avenge the death of her parents. Returning stars from the original franchise include Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and Lance Reddick in his final screen appearance.
During the promotion of the film, McShane revealed the one role of De Armas that made him her fan. He shared that he was impressed with her turn as the spy agent Paloma in No Time to Die. He also addressed the backlash over her short role in the movie. He shared that she blew up on the screen in her small role. He shared (via DiscussingFilm/X):
People always said there should have been more of her [in that film]. Well, here’s Paloma blown up on the big screen as Eve Macarro in a John Wick movie.
He reiterated his stance on her Bond role during another interview with Radio Times. He shared, “She had the one scene. All you need is one scene in a movie. She played Paloma, which is… she kicked ass in that.” He further shared the importance of the John Wick franchise undertaking a female-centered story. He shared:
We needed a female dynamic in these movies. They’ve been so male-oriented before. I mean, women come and see us, sure, but it’s nice to have something that they can relate to on a personal level.
While Ballerina is an impressive film, it failed to achieve the box office openings of the previous John Wick films. Made on a budget of $80 million, the film has grossed $50.5 million so far. The studio has already revealed plans for a sequel to the film.
Why Ana de Armas’ small role in No Time to Die is a good thing?

In No Time to Die, Ana de Armas appears as Agent Paloma, Bond’s CIA contact in Cuba. She helps him sneak into a gathering of Spectre. It turns out to be a trap to kill Bond. However, Paloma and Agent 007 fight their way out of the trap, with some incredible fight choreography in the scene. However, Paloma is soon gone after that high-octane action sequence.
Fans were disappointed mainly because the film promoted De Armas’ role in a way that didn’t justify her short appearance. However, from the film’s POV, she was set up as the perfect badass character. If she had stayed too long for the melodrama at the end, it would’ve probably ruined her character.
With that power-packed appearance, the actress leaves behind an impression in the franchise. Amazon can even consider bringing her back to lead a spinoff movie, featuring her character.
Ballerina is now running in theaters. No Time to Die is now available for rent on AppleTV.
