DEVOTED customers are left devastated after a family-favourite fish and chip shop announced its sudden closure.
The award-winning chippy, crowned one of the UK’s best, announced the blow on social media this week.

Georges Fish and Chips in Hanham High Street, Bristol, shared the news on Wednesday which received hundreds of reactions on Facebook.
Owners George and Georgina said: “It is with great sadness that me and Georgina have sold our much-loved fish and chip shop.
“We would like to thank everyone for their support, loyalty, and friendship over the past 20 years.
“Under different circumstances, we would have loved to be there another 20 years.”
The pair gushed about their time with the store and thanked their loyal customers for all the ongoing support without revealing the reason behind the closure.
They continued: “We would like to wish the new owners, good luck and hope everyone can support them as you did for us.
“Thank you Hanham and everyone for your support over the past 20 years, it’s been great, we are really going to miss you all.
“Love George and Georgina. Hope to see you when we are out walking the dogs.”
The announcement sparked a response from heartbroken customers who were devastated to see their local chippy go.
One disappointed diner said: “The best fish and chips by a mile and great customer service.
“I hope the new owners keep up the high standard – I wish you and Georgina all the best for the future and whatever you do.”
Another replied: “So sorry to read this, you are by far the best fish and chips we’ve had.
“You’ll be missed but welcome to the new owners.”
A third customer said they were saddened by the news, writing: “Good luck to both of you. We are gutted.
“Thanks for the lovely fish and chips over the years. You both made a vast improvement to Hanham.”
Other fish and chip fanatics mused at how fast the 20 years went and wondered who the new owners would be.
Georges fish and chip shop was rated one of the top 50 best takeaways in the whole of the UK by Fry Magazine.
It was also a finalist in the English Chippy Awards 2024, so it’s no wonder customers were upset by the closure.
Touched by the outpour of responses, Georgie responded: “Thank you so much for your beautiful messages we are definitely going to miss you all.
“Over the last 20 years we made some amazing memories with people who we consider friends.
“Thank you for all your support and your love over the years.”
WHY ARE RESTAURANT CLOSING
The hospitality industry is facing mounting pressures, including soaring bills, rising costs, and squeezed budgets.
More closures could be on the horizon due to upcoming hikes in employer National Insurance Contributions (NICs) and the national minimum wage.
Many food and drink businesses have faced significant challenges recently, as the rising cost of living has led to a decline in dining out.
After struggling to recover from the impact of the pandemic, many establishments were then hit with soaring energy bills and mounting inflationary pressures.
This has forced several well-known chains to shut locations, with big brands like Wetherspoons and Frankie & Benny’s among those affected.
