Toulouse demanding £18million for England U21s star with Sunderland among Premier League clubs keen

CHARLIE CRESSWELL’S stand-out performances for England Under-21s have pushed up his asking price — but that is not putting off buyers.

Centre-half Cresswell has starred at the Euros.

And French side Toulouse now want £18million for the former Leeds prospect, with the Whites potentially benefitting from a sell-on clause.

Several Prem clubs are watching but Serie A sides Atalanta and Como may come up with the cash for the Englishman, a key player for Lee Carsley as his side won the U21s Euros.

Sunderland have been linked to the defender, who has three years left on his contract.

Cresswell’s stock has risen after he played a key role in England U21s’ Euros win, with the 22-year-old revealing the Three Lions have always played a big role in his life.

He said: “I was brought up with England always a massive part of my childhood.

“I’d go to the local pub and I’d be watching the first team with all my mates, my dad’s mates and it would be like a big deal.

“So for me every time I pull on an England shirt it feels like an honour, a huge honour. I’m immensely proud that I get to do this.

“For me to go out there and give my everything it’s the least I can do.”

Roma and Napoli have also been linked to Cresswell, who has made 34 appearances for Toulouse since he joined last year.

He helped them to a 10th-place finish in Ligue 1 last season.

And that rain will continue until a switch next week[/caption]

As the day progresses sunshine will develop in a lot of areas, especially this evening.

But some cloud and mist patches will linger along southern coasts and Met Eireann warn showers will “bubble up” in places.

They revealed exactly where will be hit by downpours and where will remain dry.

They explained: “A few showers may bubble up later this afternoon too, mainly in parts of Leinster and east Ulster.”

They added: “Highest temperatures of 19C to 25C warmest across the midlands and east, with winds becoming light to moderate south to southwesterly and freshening later near some western coastal parts.”

The tonight it will be cloudy again with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading from the west.

Mist and fog is to be expected too.

And as rain continues tomorrow weather expert Alan O’Reilly has pinpointed exactly where is set to stay dry amid 5mm of water.

Posting on X under Carlow Weather he said: “Rain pushing in from West Monday and over 5mm for many spots but the Sunny Southeast escaping most of it.”

Met Eireann added rain would be most “persistent and heavy” in the west and north of the country.

It will become drier and brighter in these parts later on tomorrow but cloud will continue.

Temperatures could reach up to 23C in parts of the country on Monday before dropping to just 8C in a cloudy night.

Tuesday and Wednesday are set for more rain and cloud with “temperatures dropping back from recent highs”.

And the nights will be “cooler” too Met Eireann have warned.

However, by Thursday we will see a switch to more “settled” conditions.

Met Eireann said: “Current indications suggest that Thursday will be a more settled day with a bright and mostly dry start.

“Some more cloud and showers are expected in the afternoon but that should be mostly confined to western areas.

“Highest temperatures likely in the mid to high teens.”

Air India investigators probing whether crash that killed 260 was sabotage after ‘both engines lost power’

INVESTIGATORS are probing whether the Air India crash which killed 260 people was caused by sabotage.

A total of 52 Brits died when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner slammed into a medical college after both engines appeared to fail moments after take-off.

All but one of the 242 passengers and crew died with Vishwash Ramesh, 40, the only one to survive.

Another 19 people were killed on the ground in Ahmedabad and the Indian government has now revealed that air investigators are considering sabotage as a possible cause.

India’s Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said: “The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has begun a full investigation. It is being probed from all angles, including any possible sabotage.”

Although there has previously been speculation of potential sabotage, this is the first time officials have formally acknowledged it as a possible cause of the crash.

The pilot of Air India 171, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, 55, frantically radioed air traffic control moments after take-off on June 12 to yell: “No thrust… May Day…May Day.”

Both engines appeared to have lost power – an incredibly rare occurrence described by experts as a “one in a billion event”.

And the AAIB is now looking into whether it was caused by fuel contamination as a result of a deliberate act.

Mr Mohol said: “The CCTV footage is being reviewed and all angles are being assessed… several agencies are working on it.

“Once the report comes, we will be able to ascertain if it was an engine problem or fuel supply issue or why both the engines had stopped functioning.

“There is a CVR (cockpit voice recorder) in the black box which has stored the conversation between the two pilots.

“It is too early to say anything but whatever it is, it will come out. The report will come in three months.”

The plane’s black box has been found at the crash site and is now being analysed in India.

It includes a Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) which records data such as altitude and speed and the Cockpit Voice Recorder which retains anything the pilots say as well as background noise.

Mr Mohol dismissed reports that the black box would be sent abroad for scrutiny.

He said: “It will not go anywhere. It is in AAIB’s custody and there is no need to send it outside. We will do the entire investigation.”

He also reassured passengers that air travel in India – particularly on the country’s 33 Dreamliners – was safe.

He said: “All 33 Dreamliners have been inspected on the orders of the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation). Everything was found safe. That is why I said it was a rare accident. People are no longer scared and travelling comfortably.”

The flight reached an altitude of just 625 feet before gliding down and crashing 33 seconds after take-off.

It hit the hostel of a medical college where hundreds of students and staff were having lunch.

Vishwash Ramesh, of Leicester, was the only person on the plane to survive after crawling out of the mangled fuselage.

Tragically his brother Ajay, 35, died on the plane.

Married dad-of-one Vishwash later told The Sun his escape was a miracle but revealed he was traumatised that Ajay had died.

He said: “I tried to get two seats together but someone had already got one. Me and Ajay would have been sitting together.

“But I lost his brother in front of my eyes. So now I am constantly thinking ‘Why can’t I save my brother?’

“It’s a miracle I survived. I am okay physically but I feel terrible that I could not save Ajay.”

Sheffield Wednesday players ask EFL to send them money for their wages with Owls facing mass exodus

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY’S players will ask the EFL to send them money for their wages.

The squad are due to be paid tomorrow but many will go without a salary for the second month running.

Sheffield Wednesday stars will ask the EFL to cover their wages[/caption]

That opens the door for some to leave — but those who stay are planning talks with the PFA.

They want the EFL to divert the monthly ‘TV money’ to them and not owner Dejphon Chansiri.

The Owls supremo is counting on the EFL funds to pay the bills — unless he gets a £5million loan from a takeover bidder or compensation for boss Danny Rohl.

Wednesday face a walkout by backroom staff next week.

Rohl’s future is already in doubt but some of his team may move on after contracts run out.

Failure to pay wages for the second month in a row would also lead to charges and points penalties.

The club have already been hit with transfer restrictions for the next three windows.

Wednesday are currently banned from completing signings or loans that involve a fee until 2027.

And they currently cannot sign any players, even free transfers, until the outstanding wages have been paid.

Wednesday are set to appeal the ruling.

Chansiri has been in charge at Hillsborough for the last ten years.

Meanwhile, Rohl has been linked with a switch to Leicester after they axed Ruud van Nistelrooy two days ago following their relegation to the Championship.

Glastonbury performer hit with miming accusations as BBC viewers slam set as worst they’ve ever seen

A GLASTONBURY headliner has been hit with a slew of “lip syncing” accusations after some fans were less than impressed with their set.

The Apple hitmaker, 32, was alleged to be “miming to her own records” as they cut a sizzling figure on The Other Stage on Saturday.

Yet some alleged she was not singing live[/caption]

Brit-award winner Charli XCX certainly looked the part for her time in the spotlight at Glastonbury’s Worthy Farm, donning a black leather crop top and matching hotpants.

She completed her look with dark thigh-high boots and a pair of sunglasses despite the night-time surroundings, styling her hair into waves over her shoulders.

Charli opened her set with a quip of ” you ready” before launching into hit 365 before following up with 360.

She rattled through 17 tracks before wrapping up shortly before midnight yet despite the songstress’ fashion credentials – and signature green brat backdrop screen with flashing lights – some were less than impressed.

They accused her of miming and suggested an excessive use of autotune in tracks such as I Might Say Something Stupid.

After watching the set from their sofas on the BBC one took to X to write: “Just miming to her own records.”

A second put: “Headline act at #Glastonbury2025 #Glasto is miming. Absolutely terrible,” as a third wrote: “Charli XCX miming her way thru every song at Glastonbury, her mic only used for the odd ‘Come On’ shout. Live should be live.”

One then put: “Is @charli_xcx lip syncing.”

Another confessed: “Will NEVER understand the Charli XCX hype. Either miming, auto tune or talking.”

A fan then posted: “Has Charli XCX sung a single lyric yet?”

Yet others loved the party vibe the beauty brought to Glasto.

One mused: “Loving that Charli xcx and the 1975 have got all middle aged men in tears this weekend, can’t wait for Olivia Rodrigo!!”

Another wrote: “Dude… Charli XCX was f**king class.”

One then put: “How cool is Charli xcx”

Glastonbury 2025 - confirmed acts so far

TICKETS to the 2025 festival sold out in just minutes before some of the acts were even confirmed. Here is who has been confirmed so far.

Confirmed headliners:

  • The 1975 will take to the Pyramid Stage on Friday.
  • Neil Young will headline the festival for the second time after his last set in 2009 on Saturday after RAYE makes her return.
  • Charli xcx will headline the Other Stage on Saturday night.
  • On Sunday, Olivia Rodrigo is due to belt out her hits for her first appearance while Rod Stewart will perform in the legends slot.
  • More acts to appear on the Other Stage include Loyle Carner and The Prodigy.
  • Doechii will make her Glastonbury debut on the West Holts Stage on Saturday night.
  • Other names confirmed include Noah Kahan, Alanis Morissette, Gracie Abrams, Busta Rhymes, Lola Young, Brandi Carlile, Myles Smith, En Vogue, Amaarae, Cymande, Shaboozey, Osees and Gary Numan.

The Sun has gone to Charli’s reps for comment.

SHOCK SWIPE

Prior to her set, Charli faced an unexpected calling out from secret “Patchwork” act Pulp.

The Britpop icons, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, had ramped up speculation for their set by not appearing on the line-up – instead choosing to go by a mystery name for a secret set.

However, it had long been speculated it was actually Pulp, with piece of their equipment appearing backstage seeming to give the game away.

At 6.15pm, the Pyramid stage filled with nearly 100 people dressed in black and white ponchos as the band was finally revealed.

Taking a swipe at Charli XCX, who is headlining the Other Stage later tonight, a screen behind the band flashed the words “Are you ready for…. Pulp Summer.”

The message was a direct reference to the ‘Brat Summer’ Charli celebrated last year thanks to her smash-hit album.

According to a garden expert, a 35p household staple can help to instantly remove any unsightly bird droppings from your outdoor furniture.

This bird mess can cause damage to items such as benches and tables if not tackled properly, sometimes staining the surface.

Droppings can also prove to be a health hazard to humans if not cleaned up correctly.

Sam Wentworth of luxury garden furniture specialists Eterna Home spoke about the common problem.

“Bird mess is a common nuisance in our gardens at this time of year and needs to be tackled effectively,” he said.

“It’s not just unsightly and unpleasant, it poses health risks to humans and cause damage to garden furniture.

“Its acidic nature can lead to the erosion of surfaces such as stone and wood so it’s important to remove it immediately.”

DIY SOLUTION

However, the expert revealed a simple DIY solution can be “incredibly effective” at banishing the stains.

To return your garden furniture to looking its best, all you need is a kitchen staple.

“The good news is that a mixture of white vinegar and water is extremely powerful in banishing bird mess on wooden garden furniture,” Sam explained.

How to use

“To start, use a paper towel to remove any dried debris then take a microfibre cloth or soft brush and gently scrub the affected area until its gone.

“Rinse the area thoroughly with clean water to remove any remaining residue and allow the furniture to dry.”

Since white vinegar is a mild acid, it has proved useful in a range of household cleaning tasks.

And you can pick up a 568 millilitre bottle for just 35p from your local Tesco.

It’s important to dilute the vinegar, especially when using on wooden furniture.

Cleaning hacks for outside

IF you want to get your garden summer ready, you'll need to check this out.

ALGAE: If your fence is covered in stubborn algae, Mrs Hinch fans swore by white vinegar to get it looking brand new.

Sam recommends using equal parts water and testing the solution on a small area to ensure its suitable for the wood.
