I’m A Celeb’s Melvin Odoom reveals showbiz crush Carol Vorderman has GHOSTED him in brutal snub
I’M A Celebrity star Melvin Odoom has been ghosted by Carol Voderman after giving her his phone number.
Melvin, 44, made no secret of how much he fancies Carol, 64, during his stint in the jungle and attempted to pursue her once back in the UK.

But after reaching out to his showbiz crush online, Melvin has revealed she has brutally snubbed him.
Melvin admitted to his crushing blow while chatting to his former I’m A Celebrity campmate GK Barry for her Saving Grace podcast.
GK asked the telly and radio star: “Carol Vorderman. Have you had any update on that?”
Looking deflated, Melvin replied: “I’ll tell you the truth. I sent her a message saying, ‘Thanks for being a great sport but here’s my number. Give me a little call’.
“She’s not read it. It’s been three weeks. Why would you not even just read it?
“It’s just been left there and I check it once a week. And I’m like, ‘Oh, okay…’.”
GK – real name Grace Keeling – laughed hysterically at Melvin’s confession.
Melvin revealed his massive crush on former Countdown star Carol while in the Australian jungle last year.
He described her as his “dream woman”, slept on a pillow with her picture on and even acted out going on a date with her.
During the role play, Tulisa Contostavlos took on the part of Carol and Melvin asked her to accompany him to a Thai restaurant.
Carol later reacted to the bizarre scene in spin-off show I’m A Celebrity: Unpacked by sending in a voice-note.
In a flirty voice, she said: “Melvin, or should I say Jungle Man.. Melvin Vorderman… It sounds the same to me.
“Right, question. Have you been spying on me because just last night I had a little Thai food.
“I had pad Thai, quite a lot of it, with a little chicken satay on the side. It was delicious, Jungle Man.
“Anyway keep doing what you’re doing. You’re doing a brilliant job. See you on the other side.”
And this wasn’t the only one.
Carol sent in a second message for Melvin while claiming to be wearing a “wearing a red leatherette dress”.
I’m A Celebrity hosts Ant and Dec tried to play this one to Melvin once he had left the jungle but, due to technical issues, it failed to play.
He did, however, get to hear it while appearing on Unpacked.
Sam Thompson played the audio clip for Melvin after gifting him with a mug with Carol’s face on it.
“Well hello,” Carol began. “Oh Melvin, I’m blushing redder than that leatherette dress I’m wearing on your pillowcase.
“But I’ll be rooting for you all the way through. See you on the other side in the – two consonants – DMs.”
After it played, Melvin clapped loudly and shouted: “Yesssss!”

Haunting moment meat-cleaver killer, 42, boards bus in dressing gown after butchering girlfriend found with hands tied
THIS is the haunting moment a killer boarded a bus in his dressing gown after butchering his girlfriend to death with a meat cleaver.
John Baldwin, 42, also used knives when he attacked Eve McIntyre, 57, before leaving her for dead with her hands tied behind her back at their flat in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, in August.
![Surveillance image of John Baldwin on a bus.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/john-baldwin-felling-pleaded-guilty-968089420.jpg?strip=all&w=793)

![John Baldwin, who pleaded guilty to murder, at Newcastle Crown Court.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/john-baldwin-felling-pleaded-guilty-968089365.jpg?strip=all&w=944)
On Thursday, he was sentenced to life in prison at Newcastle Crown Court with a minimum term of 18 years and 162 days for the “horrific” killing.
The footage, timestamped to just after 11pm shows Baldwin walking along a street wearing Eve’s kimono and slippers.
As a car drives past he continues his fast journey along the road, before later boarding a bus.
Footage captures Baldwin pushing his way onto the vehicle at around 11.20pm, still wearing the dressing gown and carrying the meat cleaver he used in the attack.
Baldwin is then later seen just minutes later at the front of the bus brandishing the cleaver and threatening the driver to take him to the town of Birtley.
Moments later, the footage shows him lose his balance as the vehicle comes to a halt.
At Newcastle Crown Court on Thursday, Baldwin was jailed for life with a minimum term after admitting to Eve’s murder and to affray and possession of a blade in a public place for his offences on the bus.
Eve’s body was found in the living room of their flat with 37 injuries to her head and body, including several to her neck.
Her daughter paid tribute, saying how her mum loved to read, cook, and spend time with her grandchildren.
She reminisced over Eve’s favourite phrase, “onwards and upwards, watch this space,” and said the “horrific” killing had robbed her of an opportunity to reconnect with her “deeply loved” mum.
Eve’s daughter told the court how her mum had been born and grew up in London but moved to Newcastle as a young woman.
She made the trek after suffering a miscarriage when her then-partner pushed her down the stairs.
Eve’s daughter believes her mum never got over this loss and that it affected her throughout her life and potentially led to her alcohol addiction in later years.
At the time of her murder, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Steel, of Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team (MIT), said: “This is an incredibly sad time for Eve’s family and our thoughts remain with them.
“Since the outset, our priority has been to get Eve’s family the answers they deserve – and ultimately ensure the person responsible for her death is rightly brought to justice.”
‘ABSOLUTELY NO JUSTIFICATION FOR THE COURSE OF EVENTS’
Baldwin and Eve had begun their relationship in 2020 and moved into a ground floor flat in Sunderland Road shortly after, prosecutor Francis FitzGibbon KC said.
The court heard how Baldwin was “controlling, abusive and violent” towards Eve, leaving her suffering constantly with visible bruises and injuries.
On top of kicking and punching the 57-year-old, Baldwin attacked her with knives and a hammer.
When challenged by neighbours on his behaviour he said: “I don’t hit her that hard.”
The drug user had taken £20 worth of heroin when he attacked her for the final time on 21 August in their living room.
Baldwin fled the scene with his meat cleaver weapon before police were called, following the bus incident.
He hid the cleaver under a hedge before violently resisting arrest, eventually succumbing to a baton, taser, and incapacitant spray used by cops, the court heard.
Officers then went to their flat where they found Eve’s body with wounds to her head, neck and torso, and her hands tied behind her back.
Det Ch Insp Steel added: “There is absolutely no justification for the course of events which has robbed Eve’s family of their loved one.
“While we understand no amount of sentence will ever replace her loss, we hope this outcome will provide Eve’s family with a chance to grieve and begin rebuilding from this awful period in their lives.”

Two Irish schools closed TODAY after 1,300 pupils near fire at battery factory evacuated amid update over Eowyn closures
TWO schools in Co Galway will remain closed today after over 1,300 pupils were evacuated from the premises following a “major fire incident” at a nearby factory.
It comes as some schools across Ireland remain closed for a sixth day in a row today after record-breaking Storm Eowyn.

The wicked weather destroyed power lines, left properties without water and pulled down trees that left some educational facilities with structural damage.
A briefing provided to ministers said schools that were closed due to power outages will be back up and running in time to reopen on Monday.
In Galway, Colaiste Bhaile Chláir and Educate Together Primary School remain closed as a battery fire incident in Claregalway Corporate Park enters its third day.
The fire broke out at the facility at around 7:15am on Wednesday, with no injuries reported at the time.
Today, a container is being monitored for lithium contamination, after the blaze at the Xerotech battery company on Wednesday morning.
The fire has been contained but concerns remain over keeping the batteries cooled to prevent them from reigniting.
Galway County Council declared the scene as a “major fire incident” yesterday and said the evacuation of the two nearby schools and some nearby premises was taken as a “precautionary measure”.
Gardai yesterday assisted in the evacuation of the schools and neighbouring businesses, with parents urged to pick their children up from the evacuation points.
Pupils from Colaiste Bhaile Chlair were transported by bus to Claregalway GAA Club at Knockdoemore and pupils from Claregalway Educate Together were evacuated to the church in Claregalway.
It is understood that some 1,300 students were evacuated from their classrooms at Colaiste Bhaile Chlair.
And it has been reported that both schools remain closed this morning following the incident.
It’s understood that units of the Defence Forces ordinance core have been at the scene alongside a number of units of the fire service, Gardai and members of the Civil Defence.
Galway County Council said: “Parents and guardians are advised not to go to the schools, as access is restricted.
“Galway County Council urges the public to follow official guidance and avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work.”
Xerotech is a battery technology company that makes batteries for industrial electrical vehicles.
It is understood that air quality testing will take place to determine if businesses can return to the corporate park later today.
ANOTHER SCHOOL EVACUATED
It comes after another school was evacuated in a separate incident that took place in Co Cork on Wednesday morning.
An electric cable is suspected to have caught on fire at Glasheen Boy’s National School, located on School Avenue, shortly after 8:30am.
No injuries were reported.
It is understood that staff at the primary school extinguished the minor blaze with a fire extinguisher.
Cork City Fire Brigade were alerted to the blaze and attended the scene within six minutes.
The school, which shares a campus with Glasheen Girls’ School, is located in Cork city centre.
Cork City Council confirmed in a statement that three pumps, a hydraulic platform and a senior officer from the Cork City Fire Brigade mobilised and were on the scene for one hour.

Woman, 33, pleads not guilty to murdering lover in Xmas Day horror attack just weeks after he welcomed sixth child
A WOMAN has denied murdering her lover in a Christmas Day horror attack just weeks after he welcomed his sixth child.
Louis Price, 31, died at his home in the Staffordshire town of Norton Canes following the horror.
![Close-up photo of Kirsty Carless.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/kirsty-carless-33-known-locally-960361139.jpg?strip=all&w=960)

Kirsty Carless – also called Kirsty Cribb – appeared at Stafford Crown Court today.
The 33-year-old pleaded not guilty to a single charge of murder.
She was remanded into custody ahead of a hearing at the same court on May 12.
A trial date has been set for July 14.
The horror unfolded on Christmas Day just weeks after Louis welcomed a baby daughter.
Locals heard a woman screaming “no, no, no” and crying loudly in the early hours.
Louis’ on-off lover Carless was arrested at the property before being charged over the weekend.
His parents, who lived with the dad-of-six, had been on holiday in the Maldives when they were told about the tragedy.
One local told The Sun: “The young man who died was a lovely lad. He lived with his dad, who is a builder, and his step mum, who worked at a local care home.
“They kept themselves to themselves, and were a decent, hard working family.
“Louis had a baby daughter who he loved to bits.”
The Aston Villa fan’s devastated family paid tribute to the “devoted fisherman”, who was “well-loved” in the community.
They added: “As a family we are devastated at losing Louis. Life will never be the same without him.
“He leaves a huge hole in the lives of everyone who knew him.
“Christmas is a time we have always spent together as a family, to lose Louis at this time is even harder.
“Louis leaves behind his Mum, Dad, Brother and Sister, along with his six children.
“He has four daughters and two sons who he loved dearly. Louis had a big heart, he loved those closest to him.”
Staffordshire Police has referred itself to the IOPC watchdog “due to recent police contact”.
The force previously confirmed they were called to the home following reports of a man suffering a cardiac arrest.
A post mortem has taken place but a cause of death has not been revealed.

Fashion pro reveals ‘life-saving’ tip to stop clothes & shoes stinking between washes – it sounds bizarre but it works
WE all know that frustrating moment when your favourite top starts to develop that unpleasant odour under the armpits, and it feels like it might be time to say goodbye.
No matter how many times you wash it, the smell just won’t budge – which, for most people, means it’s time to start hunting for a new go-to top.
![Woman holding a tan sweater, explaining why to spray clothes with vodka.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/59a2555a-1dc2-4384-8fe1-f1c938a37130.jpg?strip=all&w=384)
However, one fashion expert has shared a ‘life-saving’ tip that she claims will keep your clothes smelling fresh between washes.
Better yet, this hack can even be used to give your shoes a much-needed refresh.
Katie Little Patz took to her TikTok page to reveal the clever trick, describing it as a “little trade secret”.
Talking to the camera, while demonstrating how to do it, Katie says: “Do you spray your sweaters with vodka? This is a little trick of the trade.”
“I don’t know if everyone knows this, but you can spray your sweater in this region if you struggle with, you know, different scents, if you will.
“All you need to do is take a spray bottle, put a little vodka in it, and you spray the inside of your sweater in the area that you might need help in.
“This will keep your sweaters fresh and long-lasting.”
“I’m on a 10-day trip to Europe, and I have had no problem.
“It’s really a lifesaver. If you deal with this, then you know.”
She also captioned the video: “Did you know vodka can kill bacteria that causes odour on your clothes?
“I have tried EVERYTHING and this is the only thing that truly works.”
Her video gained lots of attention with many rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.
One asked: “Will I smell like I stumbled home from a night out if I do this or does the vodka smell go away?”
To which Katie replied: “Promise, once sprayed, it’s a very neutral scent.”
As long as it’s unflavoured and at least 80 proof, don’t waste the good stuff
Katie Little Patz
A second also questioned: “does it work on cigarette smell from the thrift?”
And Katie answered with: “It definitely helped me with clothes I’ve thrifted.”
Someone else said: “You don’t mention which one works better, Grey Goose or Smirnoff.”
Katie replied: “As long as it’s unflavoured and at least 80 proof, don’t waste the good stuff!”
![Woman demonstrating how to use a spray to deodorize clothes.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/2a9e8988-61f2-45e0-bca5-cad3a7c724ee.jpg?strip=all&w=576)
However, she also warns: “I wouldn’t recommend cashmere; the fibres are too delicate.”
“Steaming the sweater or using a cashmere-safe fabric spray can also kill the bacteria!”
Another also asked: “Do you need to mix with water at all?”
Katie responded: “No, I find it works best without any dilution!”
More winter laundry tips
Tackling laundry in the winter can be a challenge, but these handy tips can help you stay on top of it:
- Use a Dehumidifier: Place a dehumidifier in your drying area to speed up the drying process and prevent dampness.
- Spin Cycle Boost: Run an extra spin cycle on your washing machine to remove excess water from clothes, reducing drying time.
- Indoor Drying Rack: Invest in a good-quality indoor drying rack and position it near a radiator or in a well-ventilated room.
- Tumble Dryer Balls: Add tumble dryer balls to your dryer to help clothes dry faster and reduce static cling.
- Space-Saving Hangers: Use space-saving hangers or a retractable washing line to maximise indoor drying space.
- Microfibre Towels: Lay microfibre towels over your drying rack to absorb extra moisture from hanging clothes.
- Partially Dry Outside: On dry days, hang clothes outside for a short period before bringing them in to finish drying.
These hacks can help you keep your laundry routine efficient and your clothes fresh, even during the colder months.

THE HISTORY OF DUNNES STORES
![](https://www.thesun.ie/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2024/04/NINTCHDBPICT000895338306.jpg?strip=all&&w=620&&h=413&&crop=1)
DUNNES Stores opened its first store on Patrick Street in Cork in 1944 - and it was an instant hit.
Shoppers from all over the city rushed to the store to snap up quality clothing at pre-war prices in Ireland’s first ‘shopping frenzy’.
During the excitement, a window was forced in and the police had to be called to help control the crowds hoping to bag founder Ben Dunne’s ‘Better Value’ bargains.
Dunnes later opened more stores in the 1950s and began to sell groceries in 1960 – starting with apples and oranges.
The retailer said: “Fruit was expensive at the time and Ben Dunne yet again offered Better Value than anyone else in town.
“Over time, our food selection has grown and that spirit of good value has remained strong.
“Now we offer a wide range of carefully-sourced foods from both local Irish suppliers and overseas.”
The retailer’s first Dublin store opened its doors in 1957 on Henry Street and a super store on South Great Georges Street was unveiled in 1960.
They added: “In 1971, our first Northern Irish store opened, and many others soon followed.
“Expansion continued in the 1980s in Spain, and later into Scotland and England.”
Dunnes now has 142 stores and employs 15,000 people.
