I was so pretty I stopped traffic, never paid for drinks & always got asked out – then I grew up & now feel invisible

SHE used to “stop traffic”, and never had to pay for her own Uber.

But as Nadiya Bekar has aged, she’s found the attention she gets from people – also known as “pretty privilege” – has disappeared.

However, instead of being sad about it, Nadiya has embraced her new found “invisibility”.

She explained the situation in a video on her TikTok page, as she said: “I used to be really pretty, I used to stop traffic and I used to have pretty privilege.

“I had all the advantages of an attractive young woman.

“Whenever I went out I never queued, always had drinks bought for me, men would always offer to pay for my Ubers and I was always asked out on dates.

“And then I grew up!”

It was when she hit her late 40s that she found the attention started to wane, and she started to “become invisible”.

“I noticed things physically changing in my skin, in my hair, but also my personality changed as well,” Nadiya continued.

“Along with my newfound invisibility I became so much more confident and I felt less pressure to perform.

“I was no longer asked out on dates regularly, my drinks certainly weren’t bought for me and forget being offered an Uber!”

She also didn’t find herself turning heads on the high street, adding that she felt “relieved” about it.

“I am so happy with my newfound invisibility and long may this last, I am so much more confident,” she concluded.

In the caption, Nadiya wrote: “Pretty privilege can be confining and I am relieved to be in a new era in my life.

“I’m not saying I don’t think I’m pretty, just that I’m mature and this has a very different appeal, or not.”

The comments section was almost immediately filled with people weighing in, with the majority of them agreeing with Nadiya’s description of how pretty privilege changes as you age.

“Same for me, hit 50 feel my features have changed,” one wrote.

“I used to get a lot of attention, not anymore lol.”

How to reverse ageing in just 2 weeks, according to royal go-to nutritionist

LONDON -based Gabriela Peacock, who has helped the likes of Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie prepare for their weddings.

She told Fabulous: “The science is evident that we all have the power to make simple life changing alterations to better our future selves – no matter what genetic hand we might have been dealt with.

“The reality is, we all sometimes indulge in unhealthy eating habits like processed foods, smoking cigarettes, drinking too much alcohol, inhaling city pollutants, and even drinking water from plastic bottles – none of this is good for us.

“All this does is promote the ageing process, but we all have the potential to change this.”

It may be hard, but try to keep away from sugary carbohydrates, because they feed chronic inflammation, which is one of the worst enemies of reversing ageing.

Now only will you end up putting on weight if you consume them regularly, but your energy and hormonal levels will be affected and this will influence how you look and feel.

Whatever your age or state of health, it’s never too late to reverse how quickly you are ageing and embrace the energy and vigour of a younger you.

Antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C, and E, are essential in neutralising free radicals—the culprits behind premature ageing.

Integrating a spectrum of colourful fruits and vegetables into your diet provides a potent source of antioxidants.

Omega-3 fatty acids, abundant in fatty fish like salmon and flaxseeds, are vital for maintaining skin elasticity and hydration.

Omega-3s act as nourishment for your skin, locking in moisture and diminishing fine lines and wrinkles.

Collagen, a structural protein dwindling with age, can be replenished through collagen-rich foods like bone broth and lean protein sources.

“Men still think you are pretty, they just know it’s way harder to impress a women like you,” another added.

“But regardless, we shouldn’t be focusing on what they want anyway.”

“Exactly, ageing is a privilege,” a third commented.

“I am writing my PhD thesis at 59 & finishing my 4th book.”

“This happened to me too!! I don’t give a damn anymore and it’s liberating,” someone else said.

“Once a baddie, always a baddie!” another wrote.

There were people who were less than complimentary about Nadiya’s appearance – both then and now.

Some trolls insisted she “wasn’t all that”, and labelled her looks “average”, but the negative attention has left Nadiya feeling “nervous”.

She also blamed the rude remarks for destroying her confidence, and urged people to remember that beauty standards have changed over the past few years – thanks to the introduction of smartphones and filters.

Mullins family drama

Speaking the DRF and all things family, Willie Mullins provided some drama on the eve of the whole thing getting under way.

The Closutton boss decided on a jaw-dropping last-minute rider switch that saw his son Patrick kicked off a huge ride.

Trainers had to confirm their jockeys for Sunday’s action by Friday’s noon deadline.

Minutes before that, Mullins had put son Patrick on Rich Ricci’s awesome grey mare Lossiemouth for the Irish Champion Hurdle, for which she is odds-on fav.

This came after it was confirmed Paul Townend would ride State Man.

That meant Willie’s nephew Danny was given the ride on Daddy Long Legs – until Danny was then mysteriously booked for both Daddy Long Legs and Lossiemouth.

With just seconds to go until the deadline, though, Willie performed a dramatic U-turn.

Amateur rider Patrick’s name now appeared next to Winter Fog, who Rachael Blackmore’s boyfriend Brian Hayes had originally been booked to ride.

While Sean O’Keeffe was the jockey tasked with riding outsider Daddy Long Legs.

The astonishing late switch-up means Danny will have a huge shot at Grade 1 glory on Ricci’s 8-13 fav.

Townend will hope the defending Champion Hurdle king can defy 13-8 odds after flopping completely at Christmas.

While Patrick goes from the ride on the odds-on jolly to steering unfancied 16-1 chance Winter Fog.

Death in Paradise star reveals why he made shock U-turn to reprise role in BBC drama – four years after quitting

AS viewers await the return of Death in Paradise, one of the show’s stars has revealed why he chose to return to idyllic murder hot spot.

Tobi Bakare starred as Sergeant JP Hooper for seven years before he decided to leave the tropical paradise of ‘Saint Marie’ for good in 2021.

Tobi revealed that the great production team and beautiful island lured him back[/caption]

On screen JP was promoted within the police and left friends and colleagues behind, but off camera Tobi had done a lot of internal soul searching about his decision to go.

However, fans will be excited to see his familiar face once again as he pops up to star in an episode in the new series of Death in Paradise, which starts tonight.

Tobi is a man of faith and he previously said that a preacher in Guadalope, where the series is filmed, had helped him realise his time playing the likeable sergeant full time was up.

He and his family had committed so much time to being out in the Caribbean that Tobi felt he needed to shift his focus.

Speaking to The Sun ahead of the series launch Tobi said: “There’s different types of seeds. You have a career, you have your money, you have your family, you have your businesses, you have whatever.

“And sometimes you just got to water a particular seed a little bit more. And I’m still watering the seed of family.”

Having spent time away, when the call came to return, Tobi revealed that the decision to come back took some time to make.

He said: “I had to sit with it and pray on it, you know, sometimes when you move away from something, to go back to it, it’s like, you have to go, am I trying to rekindle an old flame, you know?

“But the truth is, I don’t think Death in Paradise is an old flame to me. I think it’s a constant flame. Sometimes it burns brightly, sometimes burns a bit more dimly, but it’s quite constant.

“So, coming back, it was not an easy decision because I had actually generally decided not to work that far out of the UK.”

But it seems that the combination of the stunning location and the team on location won Tobi around.

He said: “It’s a beautiful island. It’s hard to not miss the island and this show it’s got one of the most amazing production companies, Red Planet.

“They know how to get that out of the actors that they bring on board…And so that line, I think, will always be open, whether it’s, whether I go in it or not, I don’t know, but that line is always gonna be open.”

For fans this will be a chance to see how Tobi and his character take to the new DI Morgan, played by Don Gilet.

Speaking of the incoming detective Tobi said: “You know what Don Gilet reminds me of? Being in a pub in Finsbury Park watching Arsenal play.

“I just get that vibe, you know what I mean? The dress, the energy, all of it. And I think he plays the character just in a way that’s so relatable.

Most memorable Death in Paradise episodes

By Conor O’Brien

  • Arriving in Paradise: The show’s very first episode, introducing Ben Miller as the straight-laced DI Richard Poole. This episode also introduces Poole’s team and the fictional island location location of Saint Marie.
  • Amongst Us: The eighth episode of series one sees Richard uncover a major secret about Aidan (Adrian Dunbar), who has been dating Catherine (Elizabeth Bourgine). Far from his Line of Duty character Ted Hastings, Aidan is revealed to be a murderer.
  • Death of a Detective: The first episode of series three marks a major turning point for Death in Paradise. DI Poole is killed off – with his murder being the first case for replacement DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall). This mirrors two years earlier, when Poole solved his predecessor’s murder.
  • Stab in the Dark: This instalment, the first episode of series four, proved memorable for two reasons. It marked the introduction of Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) who became a long-running character. Meanwhile, Don Gilet guest-starred as the killer – almost a decade before becoming the show’s latest DI.
  • Swimming in Murder: Similarly to above, this episode marks the first appearance of JP Hooper (Tobi Bakare), who starred for seven series.
  • Man Overboard (Part One and Two): This two-parter in series six had a lot of different elements involved. Some of the team travelled to London, DI Goodman exited the show – while newcomer DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon) made his first appearance.
  • Switcharoo: Airing as the fifth episode of series nine, this was the first intalment following DI Mooney’s departure. In his place came DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) – who became the show’s longest-serving DI.
  • Sins of the Detective: The latter half of a two-parter in series 12, which saw Neville in the frame for murdering smarmy criminologist David Cartwright. Although the team eventually uncover the actual murder, it comes with a big shock.
  • A Murder in the Skies: The finale of series 13 marked Neville’s exit from Saint Marie. The unlucky-in-love detective got a happy ending by sailing into the sunset with love interest Florence Cassell – who’d returned a few episodes earlier.

“He does such a great job. I mean, he produces these moments of, these really subtle moments of comedy, but it comes out of the familiarity.”

As someone who’s seen the show’s famous stars like Ralf Little and Ardal O’Hanlon come and go, Tobi is sure that the series still has a bright future.

He mused: “The show itself always survives. I think they’ve tapped into a formula that they can constantly work.

“And it’s exciting to see, sometimes when you’re backed into a corner, it’s exciting to see what you’ve come up with to bring up something new and fresh. So I think it can definitely survive.”

Death In Paradise returns tonight on BBC One at 9pm and will be available on BBC Iplayer

At the Los Angeles premiere of film Grace Point Rob Lowe, 60, showed up to support his son, John Owen Lowe, 29, who stars in the film alongside Andrew McCarthy.

Despite the occasion, John humorously teased his father by writing his name on a whiteboard, as if Rob were not a well-known star.

The event was a family affair, with Rob’s other son, Matthew Edward Lowe, 31, also in attendance.

Rob looked stylish in an edgy all-black ensemble, while John sported a leather jacket over a black shirt, which he styled with a simple gold chain.

Whilst Matthew opted for a navy jacket paired with a black jumper and a cap.

Rob had his first son, Matthew back in 1993, and welcomed his second son, John Owen, in 1995.

The actor shares both of his sons with his wife makeup artist Sheryl Berkoff, 63.

Eldest Matthew has created a successful career as a venture capitalist and attorney.

John Owen has followed in his fathers footsteps in the world of acting and has even starred alongside him on the Netflix show Unstable.

During a interview on US talk show The View last year Rob has said how it was a “nightmare” working with his son on the series.

When asked whether it was a dream to be oncsreen with his son, he jokingly replied: “No, dream? It was a nightmare!

“You have to understand, I sent this kid to Stanford, I wrote the check! I mean, if he wanted to be an actor, he could have worked at Jamba Juice!”

John Owen has now cemented himself as a writer and producer in the industry earning credits from shows such as 9-1-1 Lone Star and Madness in the Hills.

John Owen has some big shoes to fill as his father is recognised as one of the biggest actors of his generation.

Rob has an extensive acting history making his debut onscreen at 15 and featuring in many 80s sitcoms such as The Outsiders (1983), St Elmo’s Fire (1985) and Masquerade (1988).

The actor was considered a major teenage heartthrob and has received accolades such as winning a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Major warning for Dublin Bus passengers over ‘temporary closure’ of busy stop

A MAJOR warning has been issued to Dublin Bus passengers over the “temporary closure” of a busy stop.

Dublin Bus shared the alert on their website earlier today.

Dublin Bus has issued a major alert to passengers[/caption]

Dublin Bus has issued an alert regarding a temporary stop closure on Route 53.

Due to roadworks on Terminal Road South and Alexandra Road Extension, bus stop 8358 will be unavailable for a week from Monday, February 10 to Monday, February 17.

Passengers are now being advised to use the nearby stop 8357 as an alternative, located on Breakwater Road North.

The statement reads: “We wish to advise customers that due to roadworks on Terminal Road South / Alexandra Road Extension from Monday 10 February until Monday 17 February 2025, bus stop 8358 Terminal Road South, will not be in use.

“Please proceed to stop 8357 Breakwater Road North for your nearest stop location.”

For further updates and information, passengers can visit Dublin Bus’s social media pages on Facebook and Twitter @dublinbusnews.

Alternatively, they can contact the Dublin Bus customer service line at 0818 294015.

Passengers are being encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid any inconvenience during the roadworks period.

This comes after Dublin Bus announced a change to the final stop of one of its routes after receiving huge backlash to a proposed new plan.

In an announcement, it was revealed that the 19 bus will now be extended, terminating at a new stop.

The 19 bus will launch as part of the BusConnects E spine on January 26.

To start, every second bus during peak times, running every 20 minutes, will terminate at Merrion Square instead of Parnell Square.

This will then change to all buses on route 19 as more drivers are recruited in the coming months.

As a result, eventually every number 19 bus will terminate at Merrion Square instead of Parnell Square.

Announcing the news, Councillor for Cabra-Glasnevin Feljin Jose explained: “This will ensure that people travelling from the Home Farm Road area will not have to change buses to reach locations in the city centre’s southside.”

For passengers planning to use the new routes, there’s important information regarding the frequency of services to help you plan your trips more effectively.

Route X1 will be available during peak morning hours, running from Kilcoole to the City Centre, then making a return trip during the evening rush hour from the City Centre back to Kilcoole.

Similarly, route X2 will also offer a peak morning service (Newcastle to City Centre) and a peak evening service (City Centre to Newcastle), catering to commuters’ needs on weekdays.

MAJOR CHANGES AHEAD

Transport For Ireland said this step forward in transforming Dublin’s public transport is only one part of the BusConnects redesign that will continue to roll out over the next few years.

Each phase is set to bring new changes aimed at improving the accessibility and efficiency of Dublin’s bus network.

Passengers using the new network will also benefit from the TFI 90-Minute Fare, which allows unlimited travel on eligible routes for 90 minutes after the first touch-on.

This fare applies to all Dublin City Bus services, along with those that extend beyond Dublin.
