RUTH Langsford has shared the heartbreaking truth behind her recent weight loss following her split from Eamonn Holmes.

The Loose Women presenter hit out at cruel trolls who comment on her appearance[/caption]

Ruth opened up about turning 65 in March and addressed her new slimmer figure – saying it’s partly a result of her divorce.

The Loose Women star said: “I have lost weight.

“Divorce obviously has something to do with it but I also went for a hormone check and rebalance, which helped.

“It could also hopefully mean that I’m coming to the end of menopause.”

In an interview with Woman and Home magazine, Ruth said she is aware of her imperfections but are also proud of them.

However, the star admitted that not all fans are as supportive as she would like and have negatively criticised her appearance online.

“So many people don’t make it to 65, sadly, so I try not to dwell on age,” she told the publication.

“A man put on a social media post [recently], ‘Ruth’s really looking her age these days.’ I had a little jolt and thought, ‘What, because I’ve got a few lines?’ I’m nearly 65. What am I supposed to look like?

“Sometimes I’ll take a selfie and I’ll look at myself and go, ‘That looks terrible. I’m not posting that.’

“There’s a vanity [there].”

Ruth admitted there are times when she would consider altering her appearance, but remembers her mum and grandmothers advice.

She said: “I’m not saying that I’ll never have a neck lift or a chin lift because, who knows? By the time I’m 68, I might not be able to stand it any more.

“My grandma and mum were against vanity. If ever I said to my mum, ‘My knees are so chubby,’ she’d say, ‘You’re lucky to have knees.’
Perhaps somewhere in the back of my mind I’ve got a conditioning that to do anything like that is vain.

“There are times when I think, ‘Am I just cutting my nose off to spite my face?’ I say I don’t want injectables or fillers but I could look great.”

The Sun was first to report how Ruth, 64, and Eamonn, 65, were pushing for a “quickie divorce” in which she is eager to keep their £3.5million Surrey mansion as part of her divorce settlement.

The Sun later revealed Eamonn is set to lose the custody of the Border Collie cross, who is 14-years-old.

Eamonn, who has a son, Jack, 22, with Ruth, spoke earlier this year of Maggie’s “unconditional love” and the joy she brings to his life.

He said: “I genuinely have never experienced affection like it.”

Meanwhile, Eamonn has sparked speculation he is ready to start afresh with his new girlfriend Katie Alexander.

The Sun On Sunday previously revealed the GB News anchor was keen to get engaged to Katie.

Showing his commitment to his new love, The Sun revealed he drove four hours to make sure he shared a special first Christmas with marriage counsellor.

THE world’s best cities outside of Europe have been revealed in a new study.

Speaking to 1,500 people, Which analysed 2,500 city visits which were outside of Europe.

Cape Town has been named the top city by Which?, praised for being great value[/caption]

It is known for its wild penguin beaches and amazing wineries[/caption]

The research looked at seven key criteria – food and drink, tourist attractions, shopping, accommodation, lack of crowds, value for money and how easy it was to get around.

Taking the top spot was Cape Town, which recently welcomed new direct flights from the UK.

Last October, Norse Airways launched the new London Gatwick-Cape Town route, with return fares around £499.

The three-weekly flight joins both British Airways – who launched two more daily routes earlier this month – and Virgin Atlantic who offer seasonal routes.

And the African city received top marks with five out of five for its food and drink, and shopping.

It was also named the best value, long-haul destination – something echoed last year by the Post Office’s annual report who also named it top for value.

One person said: “I was amazed by the low cost of eating out in Cape Town versus London or New York. The food was exceptional.”

Last year, the city’s tourism minister raved about how cheap the five-star hotels were as well.

South Africa Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille said at a trade show earlier this year: “When you come here you are really getting value for money and British visitors are able to afford our five-star hotels.”

Some of the most affordable top end resorts can be found for around £230 a night – a fraction of London’s average of £400.

Non-stop flights take around 11hr20 from London Gatwick and London Heathrow but there is no time difference so you won’t have to worry about let lag.

Also making the Which? top 10 list was Kyoto, with Japan set to be a big travel destination in 2025.

The city beat Cape Town when it came to tourist attractions and ease of getting around.

In third place was Sydney, followed by Chicago and Tokyo.

Some of the nearest destinations to Brits on the list was Marrakech, although came in 25th place.

Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, said: “Some cities are one-trick ponies, but the standout destinations in this year’s survey have it all – each offering unique cultural sights, top-class food and drink, and even sublime scenery.

“In many cases, they are bargains too.

“Cape Town is probably the world holiday destination where your pound will go furthest, while the cost of a holiday in Japan for British travellers has tumbled in recent years thanks to a weaker yen against the pound – there has never been a better time to go.”

A number of US cities ranked poorly, with Miami and Las Vegas at the bottom, with one star for attractions and value for money.

Earlier this year, Time Out revealed their best cities to visit in 2025 which also named Cape Town as the very best.

However, six in the UK made the list with London (5th), Edinburgh (13th), Brighton (34th), Glasgow (36th), Belfast (47th) and Bristol (48th).

Bath was even named a top spot to visit this year by New York Times – here’s how to spend a weekend there.
