Masked Singer fans convinced Snail is 90s girl band star who quit fame to become a masseuse

THE MASKED Singer fans are convinced that Snail is a huge 90s pop star from a much beloved girl band.

Some fans have spotted clues that the shelled creature is Irish signer Edele Lynch from iconic group B*Witched.

Snail has got everyone guessing – including the panel of judges.

In the first episode, judges Mo GilliganDavina McCallMaya Jama, and Jonathan Ross were joined by Sir Mo Farah in the guessing game.

They were all wowed by Snail, who took to the stage to sing Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter, with a garden-themed performance.

They then pulled out all the stops with Take That’s Rule the World and Hold On by Wilson Phillips last weekend.

Now some eagle-eyed fans think Snail could be pop songstress Edele.

One viewer wrote: “I think Snail is Edele Lynch from Bewitched, lots of umbrellas for Blame it on the weatherman, wrote songs for Girls aloud with Xenomania company.”

A second posted: “Edele Lynch or Andrea Corr is snail.”

While others think they’ve recognised the voice.

A third said: “Snail – someone from B*Witched? Sounds a bit Irish and you can watch the Bewitched on amazon prime. Also j’taime reminded me of cest la vie.”

Another added: “That was definitely an Irish accent. Someone from Corrs or B*Witched?”

Edele swapped her singing career for a very different day job after shooting to fame in the 1990s.

The star, 43, enjoyed success along with her other bandmates – twin sister, Keavy, Lindsay Armaou and Sinéad O’Carroll with some of their smash hits such as C’est La Vie and Blame It On The Weatherman.

Fast forward over two decades and Edele has a very surprising job away from the limelight.

She recently revealed in an interview that she went back to school to be trained as a neuromuscular therapist and currently works as a neuromuscular therapist and personal training.

The band was first formed in 1998 when Edele and Keavy decided to start a group with their friend Sinead.

B*Witched enjoyed huge success worldwide, becoming the first act in history to have their first four singles debut at number one in the UK.

However, in 2002 after their huge success and touring all over the world the band decided to split.

Snail trail

While other internet-sleuths are now convinced they know who The Masked Singer’s Snail is.

Some fan thinks they have guessed that the celeb behind the elaborate costume is in fact 90s legend Andrea Corr.

The Irish singer shot to fame nearly three decades ago with her brothers and sisters in the band The Corrs.

Andrea and her siblings were best known for songs like Breathless, So Young, and Runaway.

Fans are now convinced she is The Masked Singer’s Snail, and they took to social media to sure their thoughts.

One tweeted: “Snail is Andrea Corr- violins playing, clue package mentions Irresistible straight away (Corrs song), soft Irish accent, clue about being up in space- her solo album was called Ten Feet High.”

While another said: “Ok so Snail on #MaskedSingerUK sounds very much like Andrea Corr and that is what I’m sticking with.”

This one agreed: “Snail sounds a bit like Andrea Corr…”

‘The rumours are fake news’ says Irish shopping centre over arrival of major fast food chain

Rumours had been spreading that Raising Cane’s, the much-loved American fast food chain, had opened for business.

The restaurant offer a range of meals with their chicken fingers at the focus which you can pair with sides such as crinkle cut chips, Texas toast, coleslaw and their own dipping sauce.

However, much to the dismay of fans, the shopping centre set the record straight in a statement.

Taking to Facebook, The Square clarified that there are no plans to bring Raising Cane’s to the centre, calling the rumours “fake news.”

And it went on to remind visitors to check their website for an up-to-date list of stores and restaurants before heading over.

They said: “While we would love to welcome Raising Cane’s to The Square someday, unfortunately the online reports and social media rumours are fake news!!

“There is no Raising Cane’s at The Square.

“Check our website for our full list of shops and restaurants before visiting.”

And it’s not the first time rumours have circulated over the fast food chain opening in Ireland.

Last year, Raising Cane’s fans got excited as brand new social media pages were set up claiming to be for a new Irish joint.

The fast food chain is famous for their chicken finger dishes and one-of-a-kind dipping sauce.

Long-standing rumours

@rasingcanesdublin TikTok page appeared on social media and shared a video with the exciting news.

In the video, the account wrote: “Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers coming to Dublin Ireland.

“Coming December.”

The video is captioned: “We’re proud to announce that Raising Cane’s will be coming to Dublin, Ireland in December of this year.”

They also shared a second video to the TikTok page writing: “See you soon.”

Both videos show off delicious chicken finger meals which is famously the only option on their menu.

However, with no official statement from the fast food joint and no Irish location opening up. The videos were later deemed fake by fans.

People have taken to the comment section of the Square’s Facebook post to share their disappointment.

One person wrote: ” I knew it was too good to be true.”

Another said: “False alarm.”

Australian cops plot to lure experienced gardai away from Ireland with €65k starting salary and huge benefits package

AUSTRALIA is attempting to lure experienced gardai with a raft of enticing benefits including DOUBLE the holidays and a starting salary of over €65,000.

South Australia Police (SAPOL) are recruiting police officers from here and the UK to join their forces.

The lure of a dazzling package of benefits comes at a bad time for the force which is hoping to land 5,000 recruits over the next five years.

Gardai applying for the scheme in South Australia are required to have three years experience in the past five years and will undergo a 15-week training course if successful.

Aside from the draw of working in the warmer weather, there are pay and holiday benefits the force are offering to Irish cops.

SAPOL are offering six weeks annual leave on top of additional leave entitlements and 38 hour work week.

Gardai in Ireland have 35 annual leave days, amounting to five weeks off.

Upon permanent appointment the indicative starting salary for a cop with three years experience is $109,000 AUD, which is around €65,127.

This is inclusive of shift penalties for working outside normal pay hours.

The maximum amount on the pay scale for Gardai in Ireland is €59,842.

This is after pay increases during 19 years of service.

In recently secured pay increases by SAPOL officers will receive a minimum 8 per cent pay rise over two years.

SAPOL are also offering to cover the visa costs for Gardai willing to make the move to serve in the policing force down under.

They will also cover visa costs for intimidate family members also relocating.

Gardai will be given 100 per cent recognition of their work experience in Ireland.

An information webinar is being held on February 10 with further information available on the SAPOL website.

The inciting international recruitment offer comes amid concerns over falling Gardai numbers in Ireland.

In figures from An Garda Siochana it is revealed that since 2020 a total of 280 Gardai resigned after just a few years in the force.

In Budget 2025 €2.48 billion was dedicated to An Garda Siochana in an attempt to aid recruitment of new members.

Gardai recruitment applications this year open on February 6, with the aim of recruiting those 5,000 members in the coming years.

Drastic changes have been made to requirements in an attempt to draw more applicants.

This includes reducing the maximum age limit of Gardai from 35 to 50.

And in another move the allowance for a trainee garda has been increased to €354 a week.
