M6 traffic: Rush hour chaos as motorway CLOSED due to crash sparking huge queues with police scrambled

DRIVERS have been hit with rush hour chaos this morning as the M6 shuts down three of four lanes after a crash.

Bumper-to-bumper traffic was sparked after a collision on the M6 Northbound between junctions 31 Preston and 31A Ribbleton.

Lanes one, two and three have since been closed off and will remain shut “for some time”, according to cops.

Motorists have been warned of “heavy and slow moving” congestion in the area.

Those affected have been urged to find an alternative route before setting out on their journey.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “Lanes one, two and three M6 Northbound between junctions 31 and 31A are closed due to a road traffic collision. They will be closed for some time.

“Traffic will be heavy and slow moving. We’d recommend looking for an alternative route. We’ll update you here once the road is open.”

A National Highways north west spokesperson added: “Three (of four) lanes closed on the M6 in Lancashire northbound between J31 Preston and J31A Ribbleton due to a collision. National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene, thank you for your patience.”

Jack Conan hails Ireland bomb squad for ‘putting us under savage pressure’ but targets Six Nations start vs Scotland

JACK CONAN is keeping quiet on what Leinster’s Springboks are calling Ireland’s bench press — but he believes it can lift the team to another level.

Conan helped Ireland to a 27-22 win over England in their Six Nations opener on Saturday with Simon Easterby’s use of his replacements changing the game.

Leinster back row Conan and hooker Dan Sheehan came on and had a dramatic effect, while Robbie Henshaw and Jack Crowley made their mark.

It is not quite South Africa’s ‘Bomb Squad’, as the Boks often unleash six or seven forwards at the same time.

But it proved just as explosive for England, whose head coach Steve Borthwick acknowledged that Ireland’s replacements won the match.

And Conan admits that Leinster’s South African coach Jacques Nienaber and second row RG Snyman have been suggesting a nickname for the bench press.

He said: “I don’t know what we were calling it at Leinster. There was a different name for it but it was not a bomb squad.

“RG and Jacques were driving that one and I can’t remember what it was called. It’s slipped my mind at the moment but maybe it’s not PG enough to say!

“Modern-day rugby is never just about the 15. It’s about the 23 and even the lads who aren’t playing. They are putting us under savage pressure.

“I’d carry the water if I felt I could make a difference for the team. I’m glad I got a decent stint of 30 minutes.

“When you’re coming off the bench, you want an opportunity to make an impact.”

But Conan — making his first Ireland appearance since last March, having picked up a calf injury in pre-season — admitted that he hopes his cameo can earn him a starting slot next week against Scotland.

He said: “You always want to be starting, It’s not ego but you want to have as much of an effect as you can. I’m probably guilty of being decent off the bench so I kind of fit that mould well.

“But when I retire, I won’t look back and say I had 20 starts and 30 off the bench. It won’t matter.

“It’s about just wearing the jersey, having those memories and winning things.

“I am fortunate enough to have won — and lost — a lot of things in my career at international and club level.”

But Saturday was special for another reason, as Conan’s seven-month old daughter Remi was in attendance at an Ireland game for the first time.

She was born last July, meaning Conan missed last summer’s tour to South Africa.

But last week’s training camp in Portugal was the first time he was away from her.

The No  8 said: “It was a long week in Portugal without her.

“She’s only seven months old, but I feel like I’ve come back and she’s gained weight, stretched out and is babbling more.

“It was her first Ireland game, so it’s huge.

“It’s something I always thought about and it’s something I loved when I was younger with other lads having their kids there.

“And to finally have that be me and have my daughter there was incredible.

“She’s gone to two Leinster games and I got injured in both of them and came off early. Luckily she’s started off well in the green jersey!”

Actress and singer ‘Big S’ Barbie Hsu, aka Xu Xiyuan has tragically died

Hsu is thought to have fallen ill while visiting Japan.

Her heartbroken sister, Dee Hsu, confirmed her death to Taiwan’s TVBS News on Monday.

She said: “During the Lunar New Year, our family came to Japan for vacation.

“My dearest sister Barbie has unfortunately left us after getting pneumonia, triggered by influenza.”

Hsu’s career began at 17 years old in a pop duo with her sister Dee.

They soon became famous TV hosts who were renowned for their animated style and great sense of humour.

But once Hsu was cast in the 1990s TV adaptation of a Japanese comic Meteor Garden, her career sky-rocketed beyond Chinese entertainment.

Hsu played the character of Shancai – a teen from a middle-class background who goes to an elite private school.

Here she finds herself in a love web with the heirs of incredible wealthy families.

On Monday, F4 member Ken Chu posted a black screen as well as a group photo with the late star on Instagram.

He then wrote on Chinese social media platform Weibo: “What a bolt from the blue.”

More heartbroken tributes poured in for Hsu on Weibo.

One user said: “She is only 48 years old. This is too sudden.”

Another comment read: “This is a little difficult to accept.”

And: “I can’t believe it.”

Posts surrounding influenza in Japan were also trending on Monday as fans tried to wrap their head around how the star died.

Meteor Garden was first enjoyed by Asian audiences in the time before streaming existed.

In just the Philippines, one local broadcaster apparently aired the entire series a whopping eight times to give the fans what they wanted.

Rashford, 27, has not played a minute of football since he was subbed off against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim had been critical of Rashford which has lead to his exit.

Villa will be paying 75 per cent of his wages and will have the option to make his loan permanent in the summer for £40million.

Rashford released a statement on social media after he was announced as a Villa player.

He only posted 78 words but insisted he West Midlands club was the “easy decision” and that he just “wants to play”.

He wrote: “I would like to thank Manchester United and Aston Villa for making this loan deal happen.

“I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me but Aston Villa was an easy decision.

“I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the managers’ ambitions.

“I wish everyone at Manchester United all the best for the rest of the season.”

Manchester United will need Rashford’s and all the other luck they can get after another defeat on the weekend.

The club suffered their SEVENTH home league loss of the season at the hands of Crystal Palace.

Rashford, however, will be hoping to break into Unai Emery‘s team as quickly as possible and get himself back on the pitch.

He will be keen to help fire the Villans back into contention for the top six as well as advance in the Champions League.
