I’d like to be the first’ – Luke Humphries on verge of darts history after winning seventh TV major title in 15 months
LUKE HUMPHRIES is set to make history as darts’ first-ever TWO MILLION man.
The World No.1 held his nerve to defeat Jonny Clayton to win the Winmau World Masters on Sunday night.
But now ‘Cool Hand’ has his eyes set on hitting the magic double figures in Major victories.
Humphries, 29, reasserted his authority of the arrows with a staggering seventh major title success in just the past 15 months.
He is clear at the top of the PDC Order of Merit rankings with the £100,000 winners cheque from MK pushing him beyond £1.9 million secured over 15 months.
Humphries now has the chance to be the first in the rankings system to hit the £2MILLION mark and can get there at the upcoming UK Open.
But it’s trophies and not cash that drives him as he said: “It obviously would be really nice to do that.
“It’s not like a goal that you’re looking at and thinking I need to do that. The prize money in darts is just going to go up and up over the next few years, I think everyone knows that.
“It’s probably going to be a common thing, so someone is going to reach the £2 million mark whether I do it or not, but I’d like to be the first one to do it.”
In the all-time PDC greats of title wins, Humphries sits just three behind third-placed James Wade after Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen.

“That’s clearly his next goal, adding: “People forget it’s two out of three majors I’ve won now.
“You do get the little bit of people where they kind of think that when you have a couple of bad performances that you’re going to fall down and that’s it, you’re defending so much, you’re going to collapse.
“But like I said a couple of days ago, I’m just here to enjoy myself, win as much as I can and there’s another one ticked off.
“To be three away from James, what a legend he is. To be close to him. I was nothing and now I’ve got seven.
“When you put it into perspective, when you can be close to a legend like James, it really is something special, so if I can get that 10 mark, then I think that would be a massive appreciation for myself and my family.”
Humphries’ glory took some of the spotlight away from his big mate Luke Littler.
The World Champion was knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Jonny Clayton.
But humble Humphries isn’t bothered one bit about taking attention as he said: “I mean his [Littler] name is always going to be in the headlines, because he is absolutely incredible.
“So, for me, it doesn’t bother me.
“I say it so many times and I’m not going to keep saying it, it doesn’t bother me.
“My name has always been great in the headlines. I don’t think I’ve not got the respect. I feel like everyone does put my name on there.
“It’s nice obviously to put up your name in the headlines of course.
“But for me, I don’t care about that. I just care about winning major titles, and when I’m away from my family, I’ll make it worthwhile.
“It’s a fantastic win and that is what means the most, more than being in headlines.”

UNEARTHED photos of Bianca Censori show the model writing in sheer fabric seven years before her shocking nude display at the Grammys.
In photographs taken during an early fashion business venture, Australian Bianca, 30, was seen in a cream bra and thong as she writhed under sheer fabric.
Posing in front of a window, the star’s silhouette held the frame as she raised her arms and posed while knelt on the floor.
The pictures, taken in 2018, were for a line launch for brand Raga Malak, which Bianca launched with business partner Gadir Rajab.
As well as modelling for the business, Bianca was the company’s creative director – however she left to pursue her master’s degree in architecture at Melbourne University.
She later worked as a design consultant in Melbourne with companies Kelektic and DP Toscano Architects, before ditching it to move to the States for Kanye in 2020.
The rapper reportedly slid into her DMs to offer her a job, and she is currently the ‘official architect of Yeezy’, the Heartless singer’s clothing brand.
But she is more famed for her relationship with Ye, which started in 2021, with Bianca being seen in increasing states of undress.
This included facing sanctions in Venice, Italy last year after they engaged in NSFW behavior on a boat.

JAKE PAUL revealed Tommy Fury punched harder than Mike Tyson – but aimed a dig at his boxing rival.
Fury became the first and so far only to defeat YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul – winning their celebrity grudge match in 2023.
Paul has won five times since then – most recently against returning heavyweight great Tyson.
And the 11-1 American said it was Fury who hit harder than Iron Mike and ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley – who he twice beat.
Paul said on the All The Smoke Fight podcast: “Probably Tommy. I think more so his timing, right?
“I think timing is more important than anything. Like, Tyron was strong, Mike Tyson was strong, but Tommy had better timing and placement of punches.”
Paul, 28, beat Tyson, 58, over eight shorter two minute rounds with over 100 MILLION tuning in to watch on Netflix.
But 2019 Love Island star Fury was originally offered the bout – only to turn down the $8million (£6.4m) deal.
And Paul pointed the blame at Fury’s dad and coach John.
He said: “He was supposed to be the original person on Netflix and he thought he was worth more money. His ‘dadager’ is a f***ing idiot.

Lacie and Ellie-Grace were last seen yesterday in the Giltbrook area of Nottinghamshire before they disappeared.
A statement from Nottinghamshire Police read: “Have you seen missing Lacie and Ellie-Grace?
“Officers are concerned for their safety after they were reported missing from the Eastwood and Newthorpe areas, on Tuesday 4th February.
“There is a confirmed sighting of Lacie and Ellie-Grace at 9pm last night in the Giltbrook area.”
It continued: “Lacie is described as 5’ 4” tall, slim build, shoulder length dark hair.
“She is believed to be wearing a pink hoodie, black leggings, black trainers, and has a cream shoulder bag.
“She was originally wearing school uniform.”
The statement added: “Ellie-Grace is described as 5’ 4” tall, slim build, very long light brown hair.
“She is believed to be wearing a dark coloured jacket, grey leggings with white stripes down the sides, and grey and pink trainers.
“She was originally in school uniform.
“It is believed that they are together.
