GROWTH will not come without a “fight”, Rachel Reeves declared in a major speech today.
The Chancellor vowed to “take the right decisions now to change our country’s future” as she set out a major economic reset.
In Oxfordshire the Chancellor said: “Low growth is not our destiny butgrowthwill not come without a fight.
“Britain’s potential has been held back for too long. We have accepted low expectations, stagnation and the risk of decline. We can do so much better.
“We are at the forefront of some of the most exciting developments in the world like artificial intelligence and life sciences. We have great companies, delivering jobs and investment in Britain.
“And we have fundamental strengths — in our history, our language, and our legal system — to compete in a global economy.”
Yesterday The Sun revealedManchester United’splans for a 100,000-seater mega-stadium will “generate growth” to the tune of £7billion every year.
Newcastle United andAston Villaare also keen for government support for stadium developments.
The Chancellor said she is “genuinely shocked” at how “ridiculous” waiting times to approve planning applications are.
She pledged to rip up red tape and reform rules around the green belt to help build 1.5million new homes this parliament.
The Chancellor also backed a new rail link from Oxford to Cambridge, which will add an estimated £78billion to the economy over the next decade.
And she promised to take on Britain’s over-inflated welfare bill, which has continued ballooning as more and more people claim health and disability benefits.

Miranda, 52, played the role of Camilla “Chummy” Noakes and had one son, named Fred “Freddie” Noakes.
The comic bowed out of her role in Call the Midwife for good in 2015.
But during this week’s episode of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, she’s reunited with her on-screen son.
Michael, 48, brought out a young boy on stage at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London for the segment.
When asked to get his identity, a puzzled Miranda says: “The first thing that’s came to mind is, and this may be really weird if it’s right and also really weird if it’s wrong…
“You weren’t a baby in Call the Midwife?”
She added: “You weren’t Chummy’s breech birth were you?!”
As Miranda realised the young boy actually played her own child in the BBC hit, she jumped up in shock and screamed “not my baby!”.
The sweet scenes left Miranda emotional as she was reunited with Liam Kiff.
Funnyman Michael said: “It must be very emotional for you to be reunited with your birth mother you abandoned you.”
The scenes will play out during Michael McIntyre’s Big Show from 6:50pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
