It was back in 2009 that the Leinster legend came out with a left-field response when asked about coming up against Martin Johnson’s England side.

He responded with: “Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.”

In a shock twist, Wilde shared the screengrab to her Instagram Story, captioning it with: “Still the best quotes.”

Wife of BO’D, Amy Huberman, screenshotted that and shared to her Story, remarking: “Olivia Wilde is on the tomato buzz”.

She is not shy of taking the mickey out of the Leinster and Ireland legend whenever she gets the chance.

At Christmas time, she dug it out and planted it right in the middle of her Instagram post about how her husband makes a habit of donning his apron at this time of year.

She captioned it: “There he is now the annual Brine O’Driscoll.

“Knowledge is knowing he’s cooking the dinner. Wisdom is knowing not to say ‘sure it’s just like a regular roast dinner sort of isn’t it really?’”

Among the replies to the amusing post, Grace quipped: “What is it about men.

“They are suddenly chefs twice a year, once for the only barbecue of summer and the second time for the giant ham at Christmas!”

In the years since his retirement from rugby, O’Driscoll has gone out of his way to explain the meaning behind the off non-sequitur.

He revealed that it simply originated from a bet forfeit between himself and Gordon D’Arcy rather than him trying to be all Zen on the eve of a battle with the Old Enemy.

He was speaking during an appearance on The Clare Balding Show in 2015.

And he explained: “It didn’t matter what the question was because that was my answer to it.

“It just happened to be referencing Martin Johnson.

“I didn’t even hear what the question was because I’d just decided..

“The bet had been with my centre partner Gordon D’Arcy that, everyday we get an itinerary and thought of the day and this was Rala’s thought of the day, our bag man.

“So he said to me in the dressing room before the press conference, ‘I bet you, some forfeit, that you can’t get that into the press conference’.

“So sure enough I got it in.”
