South Africans have been left reeling after the shocking and untimely death of popular TikTok content creator Sqiniseko Mvelase, who was fatally shot while livestreaming to his followers on 29 May 2025. Known for his fearless reviews and candid commentary on maskandi music, Mvelase’s final moments were broadcast in real time — a chilling end that has stirred grief, outrage, and deep concern across the nation.
Mvelase, originally from KwaMaphumulo in KwaZulu-Natal, had recently relocated to Nigel in Ekurhuleni. It was there, during a routine livestream session, that the content creator’s life was cut short in a horrifying on-camera attack. According to reports, viewers heard multiple gunshots before the stream abruptly ended. A short clip that has since circulated online captures the terrifying final moments, showing Mvelase attempting to escape before the screen went black.

Eyewitnesses and online viewers reported that the attacker allegedly fired more than 15 shots. The Gauteng police have since confirmed that a murder investigation is underway, though no suspects or motives have yet been publicly identified. “We can confirm a case of murder is being investigated,” said police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, as quoted by the Daily Sun.
