Script for Seth Rogen, James Franco’s The Interview 2 Writes Itself: North Korean Hackers Pull History’s Largest Heist Worth an Earth-Shattering $1.5 Billion Dollars

The Interview was one of Seth Rogen and James Franco’s crowning film achievements, which echoed the likes of The Dictator in its presentation and humor. However, truth is stranger than fiction, and if Seth Rogen can take a break from his stints with superheroes like Invincible and The Boys, there is a hot idea waiting for him to pen the sequel of the film.

As has been reported by multiple sources, North Korean operatives have managed to siphon away a whopping $1.5 billion in the form of cryptocurrency, making it the biggest hack of its kind in the history of the world. Now, the release of the first The Interview was rife with all sorts of backlashes from North Korea, but this story has all the makings of a great sequel to the 2015 black comedy film.

Baybit, one of the major cryptocurrency exchanges of the world, lost a whopping $1.5 billion as hackers from North Korea, as identified by TRM Labs, launched an attack on the exchange. This is the biggest hack of its kind in the history of the world, and it is not the first time that North Korean entities have launched such an attack.

The premise is strange enough that there can be another full-fledged film in the cards, a direct sequel to The Interview. Of course, at the end of that film, Randall Park’s President Kim was obliterated by James Franco‘s character, but the current crisis that has been spotlighted might not need him to be at the center of the project after all. However, the character was the highlight of the film, and it would not be the same experience.

There is one other reason why Seth Rogen’s The Interview might never get a true sequel

There were three key reasons why The Interview worked the way it did. Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Randall Park were all instrumental in making the film the success that it was. However, it seems unlikely that Seth Rogen and James Franco are going to work together anytime soon, given the allegations that have been leveled against Franco way back in 2021 (via Variety).

The Interview also faced a lot of backlash from North Korea when it was released, with Sony even facing a major hack, which released a lot of sensitive information about the company. This was a direct result of the film’s subject matter, which also prompted threats of terrorist attacks on cinemas, should the films be released.

Rogen has now moved on to better things in his career, with his focus being on shows like Invincible and The Boys, which have become cultural phenomena of their own. However, despite how talented Randall Park and Seth Rogen are, the film would just not feel the same without Franco.

The Interview can be streamed on Netflix.
