Redding Rancheria to Open Shasta County’s First Inpatient Detox Center for Opioid and Alcohol Recovery

The Redding Rancheria is set to develop Shasta County’s first inpatient drug and alcohol detox center, aimed at treating individuals with opioid and alcohol addictions through medication-assisted therapy. This center is part of a larger plan for a Tribal Health Village in south Redding, near the Rancheria-owned Win-River Resort & Casino. The facility’s design will resemble a lodge in Lake Tahoe, providing a comfortable environment for recovery.

The detox center will include 10 inpatient medical detox beds and 20 longer-term inpatient beds for continued treatment. Funding is anticipated from state grants, supported by Proposition 1’s bond measure and modifications to California’s “millionaire’s tax,” which allocates funds to substance abuse and recovery initiatives.

Final approval of the grant is expected in May, which will determine if the project can proceed. The facility will exclusively serve Shasta County residents, addressing the urgent need for inpatient medical detox services in the area. The current options only offer non-medical detox, which often involves abrupt withdrawal symptoms. In contrast, the new facility will provide a more humane approach, using medication-assisted therapy to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and enhance the chances of successful recovery.

Once the $232 million Tribal Health Village is completed, patients from the existing Tribal Health Center in downtown Redding will be relocated there. The new facility aims to offer an environment that supports recovery, with better conditions than many existing facilities. The emphasis is on creating a supportive and comfortable setting to increase the likelihood of successful sobriety.
