Wonder Madilo, a member of the NDC Communications Team, has asserted that the former Finance Minister does not command any sympathy from Ghanaians due to his role in the country’s current economic struggles.
Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV, he attributed Ghana’s financial crisis to what he described as an insensitive approach to economic management.
“You know, it looks as though the former Finance Minister does not have any sympathy from Ghanaians,” he stated. “He led this country to the doldrums.
“All these challenges we talk about now are largely owing to a Finance Ministry that was insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians, was insensitive to the growth of this country in GDP, was insensitive to every sector of the economy, from health to education to even economic data.”
Madilo further pointed out that discontent over the minister’s performance was not limited to the opposition but also came from members of his own party.
“That’s why he doesn’t seem to have any sympathy from anybody. To the extent that people—his own party people—about 80 of them were asking for his resignation, and the president still kept him on until now. I think it’s worrying,” he said.
He also cited instances of mismanagement, including losses at state institutions and stalled government projects, as evidence of reckless economic leadership. According to him, these failures have made it difficult for the former minister to garner public support, even amid reports of his ill health.
“It looks as though there was some level of recklessness we have never seen before in the management of the economy. That’s why he doesn’t seem to enjoy any sympathy, even when he says he’s sick. Supposedly, nobody seems to buy into that,” he added.
