But it can seem overwhelming when you have no idea where to begin and need a plan of action.

Thankfully, Rebecca Baddeley, head of design at JD Williams, has offered some insight into where folk need to be looking.

She has SEVEN expert tips that she predicts could transform the appearance of the home without much hassle.

LIGHT SWITCHES

Rebecca said: “Light switches are frequently touched yet often forgotten about when it comes to cleaning.

“As they are hotspots for germs, use a disinfecting wipe to regularly clean switches.”

UNDER FURNITURE

Rebecca said: “As it’s not visible, it’s easy to forget about cleaning under furniture, but you could be neglecting a buildup of dust. Regularly move chairs, couches and tables so you can vacuum or sweep under them.

“For any hard-to-reach spots, use a long-handled duster or broom.”

BEHIND THE TOILET

Rebecca said: “Although it’s hard to reach, the area behind the toilet is susceptible to bacteria and grime.

“Rather than avoiding this, use a long-handled mop and clean this area at least once a week.”

KITCHEN SINK DRAIN

Rebecca said: “Your drain may be collecting not only food particles, but bacteria and unpleasant odours as well. Mix together baking soda and vinegar to break down the grime and then pour boiling water down the drain to clear any build up.

“This will leave your drain clear and odour free.

BIN

Rebecca said: “Although you may be on top of taking your bins out, you mustn’t neglect cleaning the actual bin.

“Ensure you’re regularly disinfecting your bin with hot water and soap to prevent bacteria and foul odours from building up. “

BLINDS

Rebecca said: “If you notice your allergies acting up, it may be due to dust accumulating on your blinds. Use a microfiber cloth to remove dust or use a vacuum with a brush attached.”

UNDER THE FRIDGE

Rebecca said: “Similar to furniture, the space underneath the fridge can collect dust and crumbs.

“To give this area a good clean. Pull the fridge out and vacuum or sweep underneath to keep it clean.”
