Only Adam Sandler Could Bring Johnny Depp and Al Pacino Together in a Justin Bieber T Shirt

Jack and Jill is peak Adam Sandler, outrageously goofy and packed with over-the-top humor. When it hit theaters, it didn’t exactly win over critics, but over time, it’s become one of those so-bad-it’s-good comedies that deserves a second look.

With a star-studded cast, including Al Pacino in a role no one saw coming and a hilarious Johnny Depp making a cameo wearing a Justin Bieber T-shirt, the film had all the ingredients for a wild ride.

Moreover, Sandler played both Jack and his loud, overbearing twin sister, Jill. Here’s how he brought this chaotic comedy to life.

Why was Johnny Depp at a Lakers game wearing a Justin Bieber T-shirt?!

Adam Sandler‘s Jack and Jill might not have been a hit with critics, but it had it all: laughs, heart, and a shockingly star-studded lineup. No one expected the movie to be packed with so many big names, but somehow, it brought together Hollywood legends, sports icons, and TV personalities, all tossed into its whirlwind of comedy.

This movie is wild from start to finish. One minute, Johnny Depp is courtside at a Lakers game, casually rocking a Justin Bieber T-shirt, and the next, Drew Carey is hosting The Price is Right just in time for Jill to get knocked out by the Big Wheel. Meanwhile, Regis Philbin is wondering why he doesn’t have any good lines in a Pepto Bismol commercial, and Shaquille O’Neal, on the other hand, is out here selling honey-baked ham like it’s his true calling.

And just when you think it can’t get any weirder, Caitlyn Jenner shows up performing Richard III on stage, Dana Carvey becomes a Sesame Street puppeteer, and David Spade transforms into a full-on Bronx mean girl.

Norm Macdonald somehow ends up on a painfully awkward blind date with Jill, while over at Jack’s birthday party, Dan Patrick, Christie Brinkley, Bill Romanowski, and Michael Irvin watch in disbelief as John McEnroe and Nick Swardson scream at each other about the existence of a higher power. And that’s more name-dropping than Alexis Rose ever managed to do in Schitt’ Creek, but somehow, it all just works.

Why did Al Pacino agree to do Adam Sandler’s Jack and Jill?

While plenty of big stars made cameos in Jack and Jill, Al Pacino was actually part of the main cast. How did that happen? As it turns out, Pacino himself explained it in his memoir Sonny Boy.

He revealed that after losing his finances in a Ponzi scheme, he found himself making some, let’s just say, weird career choices. And in the middle of it all, along came Adam Sandler, his unexpected savior. He wrote, (via IndieWire)

Jack and Jill’ was the first film I made after I lost my money. To be honest, I did it because I didn’t have anything else, Adam Sandler wanted me, and they paid me a lot for it. So I went out and did it, and it helped. I love Adam, he was wonderful to work with and has become a dear friend. He also just happens to be a great actor and a hell of a guy.

Speaking to The New York Times, he revealed.

It came at a time in my life that I needed it, because it was after I found out I had no more money, My accountant was in prison, and I needed something quickly. So I took this. There’s this thing I do in that film: They got me doing a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial. You know how many people think I actually made that commercial?

Sure, he did it for the big paycheck, but he actually found the film funny. In the end, it wasn’t just the money that convinced him; it was the people behind the movie that truly pulled him in. Plus, it also earned him a Razzie. So overall, it is a win-win situation, to say the least!
