Speaker Bagbin issues one-week ultimatum over offensive remark against Zanetor Rawlings

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has given the unidentified MP responsible for an offensive remark against Dr. Zanetor Rawlings a one-week ultimatum to come forward or face consequences.

During parliamentary proceedings on February 4, 2025, an unidentified male voice was heard shouting, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down!” while Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was addressing the House.

The outburst came amid a heated debate over the 60th anniversary of Joseph Boakye Danquah’s death, which had sparked tensions in the chamber.

Addressing the matter on March 3, 2025, Speaker Bagbin condemned the remark as “dishonourable and unbefitting of a sitting MP.”

He stated that Parliament would take action if the person responsible failed to voluntarily come forward within a week.

“This House cannot condone such reckless and offensive behaviour. I am giving the culprit one week to own up, or the necessary steps will be taken to ensure accountability,” Bagbin declared.

He also apologised to Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, their family, and the chiefs and people of Anlo, assuring them that Parliament would not tolerate such conduct.
