I’ve Seen Every Fight and Only One ‘Dragon Ball’ Villain Is Stronger Than Broly

There are many characters with unique abilities in the vast Dragon Ball multiverse. Of them, the character with the most potential is not Goku, Vegeta, or Gohan. Instead, it is the one in a million Saiyan that has a primal talent and increased bloodline abilities: Broly.

I have always had a lingering thought that, despite Goku and Vegeta advancing rapidly and becoming terrifyingly strong figures in the universe, Broly could easily surpass them with his innate talent.

As the Legendary Super Saiyan, not only Broly’s transformations, but even his natural form, make him stronger than most other characters. But there is one character whose strength and talent trumps Broly’s; that character is Black Frieza.

Broly might seem monstrous, but Frieza is the true monster

Broly is a terrifying entity. I have always known that the reason Toriyama did not let Broly enter the main narrative (he became canon due to the movies) is that Broly would break the story.

It wouldn’t be about Goku or Vegeta anymore; Broly would just have to be better than them. That is the way it works, no matter how hard Tien to Yamcha, or Krillin try, they are going to hit an upper limit when it comes to their strength.

This is because they are humans. In the same way, Broly can be calculated as being ten times the Saiyan that Goku and Vegeta are, so much that his bloodline gives him a ‘legendary’ status.

Broly fights like a monster, be it in Dragon Ball Z: Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan, or Dragon Ball Super: Broly. We have seen that Broly fights like a monster. The most primal manner of fighting makes one feel the threat of fighting an opponent who does not care for the damage they take.

While Broly is a beast in combat, Frieza is a monster. I am not talking about that whiny, wimpy, kill-Krillin-to-enrage-Goku version. I am talking about the Black Frieza, who schemes to kill gods, the one who can take down Goku and Vegeta in their strongest forms.

Black Frieza stands at the top of the Dragon Ball franchise

Frieza has evolved a lot. Although he dies and gets resurrected often (once by Goku himself), there is no doubt that each time he beats the power creep in the series.

With each change, each new form, he gains a massive amount of strength, becoming capable of hitting the Saiyans hard. But the reason I find Black Frieza so unique is his strength.

Not only does he know Goku (perfected Ultra Instinct) and Vegeta (Ultra Ego) out in one-shot, he does the same to Gas, who is in his zombie form. If he wanted to, Black Frieza could have easily killed the Saiyans, but his cool factor lies in his sparing them.

I believe he is the reason that Broly had to be hidden in Dragon Ball Super: Heroes, as Black Frieza had surpassed the level at which any fighter in the universe (other than the divine beings) could stop him.

Although Broly is a beast, he has not reached the peak of his potential. Terrifying as it is, I believe the same is the case for Black Frieza. He is the most intimidating villain, despite his polite tone and permanent smile, and even Broly doesn’t compare.

You can currently stream the Dragon Ball series on Crunchyroll.
