The debate kicked off on Reddit with a post calling out people who leave their bags on empty seats during crowded Dublin Bus rides.
The original poster revealed that he was fed up with commuters who monopolise seats – especially on rainy mornings when everyone is wet and cold.
The post reads: “There is no excuse. On a rainy Tuesday morning, people soaked and finally getting on the bus, only for people to not move their bags and let them sit down.
“It’s downright scummy behaviour and it’s rampant.
“If this is you, you need to get a grip. You have no right to monopolise two seats.”
And others have taken to the comment section to chime in on the debate.
One commenter had enough of being polite, saying they just loudly ask people to move their bags because it’s public transport and they’re not about to stand for it.
They said: “I’m old enough to not care anymore, I just loudly ask them to move their bag.”
Others chimed in with a different frustration, mentioning how some people sit in the aisle seats and refuse to scoot over – forcing others to awkwardly climb over them.
Another commented: “I get why this is bad but the trend of people sitting on the outside seats and refusing to scoot over and making people practically climb over them on buses and luases is worse”
In response, people admitted to getting a little bit of revenge.
Some commuters revealed that they now purposely go to sit next to the bag, just to make the bag owner’s day a little more inconvenient.
One user shared their tactic, saying they almost feel like it’s their duty to take the bag-seated spot, enjoying the “satisfaction” of it.
They wrote: “I’ll nearly purposely pick the seat with a bag on it – get satisfaction out of it.”
Another responded: “Backfire!”
Meanwhile, a warning has been issued to Dublin Bus passengers over the “temporary closure” of a busy stop.
The company issued an alert regarding a temporary stop closure on Route 53.
Due to roadworks on Terminal Road South and Alexandra Road Extension, bus stop 8358 will be unavailable for a week from Monday, February 10 to Monday, February 17.
Passengers are now being advised to use the nearby stop 8357 as an alternative, located on Breakwater Road North.
The statement reads: “We wish to advise customers that due to roadworks on Terminal Road South / Alexandra Road Extension from Monday 10 February until Monday 17 February 2025, bus stop 8358 Terminal Road South, will not be in use.
“Please proceed to stop 8357 Breakwater Road North for your nearest stop location.”
