If you think Henry Cavill is built like a Greek God and has one of the most sculpted bodies in Hollywood, well, think twice. Alan Ritchson, the towering star of Reacher, has an impressive physique that leaves even his The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare co-star’s swoon-worthy build miles behind. But behind his muscle-bound transformation is an unexpected sacrifice that he had to make, thanks to his wife.

Well, while his wife more or less forced him to give up something he absolutely loved, the Reacher star is not complaining anymore but is rather glad that giving up that one thing helped him achieve his jaw-dropping physique.
Alan Ritchson on the one thing he had to sacrifice for his muscle machine transformation

Alan Ritchson is no less than a Greek God. Standing tall at 1.91 m, the actor has one of the best physiques the film industry has ever seen. However, achieving such a spectacular build is not easy, and Ritchson has had to put a lot of effort into looking like he does.
From focusing more on his protein intake to having a disciplined lifestyle, Ritchson has always been pretty cautious about his diet, as he revealed in a recent appearance on the Thomas DeLauer Podcast. However, there was one other thing he had to give up, something he really loved, to transform into the shredded powerhouse he is today: alcohol.
While on the Thomas DeLauer Podcast, the Reacher star revealed that he has a huge sweet tooth but stays away from sweets to maintain his body. Remarking that ‘sweets’ are the same side of the coin as alcohol, he stated:
I don’t drink. I am six years sober now. And it’s my wife’s fault. I loved spicy margaritas and cherry vodka sours and anything that was sweet and delicious… I loved to enjoy that kind of thing and it was never a problem for me.
However, Ritchson then added on that his wife helped convince him to quit alcohol. While it started off with them staying sober for a month or so, they now have been sober for years. Given the effects alcohol can have on muscle growth, hydration, and fat loss, Ritchson doesn’t even regret giving up one of his favorite things now.
Alan Ritchson has no qualms about leaving alcohol today

In a lighthearted confession, Reacher star Alan Ritchson revealed the way his wife convinced him to let go of alcohol. Apparently, it was his wife, Catherine Ritchson, who wanted to try how it was remaining sober and to not have any mental energy to towards planning, purchasing, and recovering from alcohol.
Although he was very reluctant to follow her, given his love for spicy margaritas and more, he eventually did end up listening to her. During the podcast, the actor remarked how glad he is today to have left alcohol.
Now, I’m glad that it’s not part of my life because… the amount of hours I’ve saved and calories I’ve saved, like not recovering from that all the time, is great. For me, it’s like free everywhere… I could be drinking 24/7 if I wanted to and not even pay for it. I’m so glad it’s just a hard no for me and it becomes an easy decision.
He also added that giving up alcohol has freed him, and he now doesn’t have to put extra effort into calorie intake or spend more time in the gym, thanks to his wife’s decision. Moreover, no alcohol has helped him maintain a more chiseled physique.
Alan Ritcson further remarked on the lie the alcohol industry has been manufacturing, that being able to drink is actually a sign of health. Although he didn’t state that drinking was bad, the actor couldn’t help but share that drinking wasn’t doing anyone any good. Well, whether people relate with him or not, the results speak for themselves— his impeccable, muscular frame in Reacher is a testament to the power of discipline and sacrifice.
