Resident Evil Requiem Unleashes a Relentless and Terrifying Threat That Dwarfs Everything That Came Before

A new Resident Evil game may not have been on our cards, but Capcom is giving us a new entry into the franchise. Revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025, Resident Evil Requiem already looks like it will be the most intense game yet. It is set to release on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Of course, no Resident Evil game would be complete without the one exceptionally horrifying and unkillable enemy. And we need not worry because Capcom seems to have outdone themselves with the new stalker enemy that we’ve seen in the demos.

Resident Evil Requiem is going to have the classic big bad monster

Set for release on February 27, 2026, Resident Evil Requiem will feature a new protagonist, FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, whose mother, Alyssa Ashcroft, is a face we’re familiar with from Resident Evil Outbreak. In the upcoming title, we will see Grace drawn into a nightmare as she investigates a string of murders at the Wrenwood Hotel.

This is, coincidentally, the very place her mother met a gruesome end in 2016. It’s a new setting and look for a game in the franchise, but don’t worry, because all the classic Resident Evil stuff is still there. Abandoned hospitals, blown fuses, dark corridors, and of course, some creepy zombies who are ready to give us the fright of our lives.

We’ve already gotten a look at what the game will be like, and believe us when we say that one monster in particular will not disappoint. As we follow Grace in the demo, every footstep and every breath builds up the tension, and we know a crescendo is coming. The inevitable monster reveal doesn’t disappoint.

According to a report that Xbox Wire made after playing the demo at the Summer Game Fest, the creature doesn’t just chase you. It hunts. It sniffs the air for your scent. This grotesque monster has been described as “so tall that it needs to stoop through doorways to get around.” We don’t want to go against that, do you?

Capcom seems to be cooking good with this new title

Capcom has clearly studied what made enemies like Lady Dimitrescu and Jack Baker memorable and taken things further. We’ve also seen other features of the monster, like how it can consume infected corpses and adapt, and is unkillable, at least in the demo. If you remember Mr. X from Resident Evil 2, it’s just like that.

From what we can see, gameplay in the demo was purposefully restrained. There is more of a focus on stealth and exploration rather than on the action. Grace can defend herself, but barely. A big part of the new game is the dual perspective system. We can experience the game in either first or third-person and will be able to switch at any moment.

But of course, with a release date still months away, Capcom is holding many cards close to its chest. So far, Resident Evil Requiem seems like it will bring us back to the franchise’s psychological horror side of things, and we can’t wait.
