The round was being televised on ESPN and, when Poppy appeared on the big screen, her appearance drew laughter from Rory.

The moment was shared to TikTok by ESPN, with fans instantly drawing a comparison between the four-year-old and Drew Barrymore.

They specifically cited the American actress’ role in ‘ET The Extra Terrestrial’.

The 1982 classic was one of Barrymore’s earliest roles, having played Gertie – the sister of main character Elliott – when she was just six.

And fans believe Poppy looked just like the Hollywood icon.

One said: “The little girl looks like little Drew Barrymore from ET” and a second said: “She looks like Drew Barrymore! ❤🥰

Others, meanwhile, believe she is the double of McIlroy himself, or her mum – and Rory’s wife – Erica Stoll.

One said: “Poppy! Oh my heart. She is precious ☘” and a second posted: “”She looks just like her daddy 😭❤

A third commented: “Poppy McIlroy’s reaction is priceless! 😱” and a fourth said: “Don’t need a DNA test to tell who her Dad is 😂

And a fifth said: “She’s the double of him, honestly I was taken aback when I saw this wee Angel.”

Poppy and Erica were both up close and personal as McIlroy won the Players Championship last weekend.

The Holywood native overcame J.J Spaun in a tense Monday playoff to win the Players Championship for the second time at Sawgrass.

And he toasted the occasion with his wife and daughter, kissing the former on the lips and the latter on the forehead.

In victory, he scooped a cool $4.5 million in prize money, while Shane Lowry pocketed $240,250 for his T20 finish.

Monday’s haul also saw McIlroy overtake heated rival Mickelson in total career earnings as he currently sits on $99,709,062 (approximately €91,044,046).

The American is on $96,685,635, with the Irishman behind only Tiger Woods ($120,999,166) in the all-time PGA Tour earnings list.

It marked McIlroy’s second victory of the season, following his triumph at Pebble Beach in February.

Speaking after the triumph, the Holywood hotshot admitted that it was the most nervous he has been in a long time.

He said: “Honestly, standing over that tee shot on 16, it’s the most nervous I’d been in a long time.

“So, I think that will stand to me, feeling like that – being able to hit the golf shots that I need, while your stomach is not feeling great and legs are a little shaky, and your heart-rate is racing.

“To have to go through that today – it’s nice to have that in recent memory for some of the tournaments coming up, for sure.”
