Michelle Obama Revealed the Surprising Couple She & Barack Obama Look Up to As Mentors

Over the years, Michelle Obama and her husband Barack Obama have been through a lot in the public eye. From Barack’s presidential campaigns to Michelle’s career as a bestselling author, the couple has been through it all, and they’ve apparently looked up to one couple throughout it all.

In a recent episode of her IMO podcast, Michelle admitted to “Born in the USA” singer Bruce Springsteen that he and his longtime wife, Patti Scialfa, have been a source of inspiration.

“I marvel at you and Patti and the work that you all have done,” the former first lady told the singer, per Page Six. “You and Patty have been couple mentors for me and Barack for quite some time.”

While Michelle and Barack have been married since 1992 and share daughters Malia, 26, and Sasha, 24, Springsteen and Scialfa tied the knot just a year earlier in 1991. They share kids Evan, 34, Jessica, 33, and Samuel, 31.

To Michelle, looking up to Springsteen and Scialfa is about much more than being married in the public eye. “[We are] watching you guys do the work, getting advice on how to keep those lines of communication open,” she said, adding that they’re both “powerhouses in [their] own right … merging those lives together.”

From the looks of it, that’s exactly what Michelle and Barack, who were recently in the midst of divorce rumors, aim to do: support each other through their career milestones.

And, speaking of, Michelle announced her newest book, titled The Look, earlier this month on June 5.

“During our family’s time in the White House, the way I looked was constantly being dissected — what I wore, how my hair was styled,” she wrote on Instagram. “For a while now, I’ve been wanting to reclaim more of that story, to share it in my own way. I’m thankful to be at a stage in life where I feel comfortable expressing myself freely — wearing what I love and doing what feels true to me. And I’m excited to share some of what I’ve learned along the way.”
