‘Here comes the rain again’ as weather bosses pinpoint worst-hit areas amid heavy rain in Met Eireann latest

IT’S another day of heavy rain this Bank Holiday weekend as Met Eireann forecasters pinpoint worst-hit areas.

Heavy rain is hitting parts of the country today as those in the east see it “slower to clear.”

Rain is currently hitting the east of the country, with up to 27mm recorded at Moorepark in Fermoy, as well as some spot flooding in Cork.

Rain is clearing over on the west coast, which is due to extend to the rest of the country.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said: “Rain a little slower to clear East than forecast and up to 27mm recorded at Moorepark in Fermoy with some spot flooding on Cork.

“The clearance is appearing on the West coast though and will slowly extend to all areas this morning.”

Met Eireann has said that it is a “very wet picture” for most of the country, but clearer skies are expected later today.

They said: “It’s a very wet picture in across the country this morning with spot flooding.

“It will though be an improving picture as the last of the overnight rain continues to clear off into the Irish Sea and sunny skies develop widely as of late morning.

“Later on this evening though, the odd spot of drizzle will show up for Atlantic coasts.

“Highs today of 7C to 10C.”

Tonight will be mostly dry as rain clears off, with patchy drizzle appearing for Atlantic counties.

Met Eireann said: “Overall it will be a dry picture apart from a little patchy drizzle showing up across Atlantic counties.

“Coldest and clearest skies further east with lowest temperatures tonight ranging 3C to 8C.”

Winds are due to pick up by tomorrow, bringing outbreaks of rain over the west coast, but remaining dry elsewhere.

They said: “Monday will be a breezy day so, with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle slowly arriving into Atlantic counties.

“It should stay dry elsewhere though for daylight hours with a mix of cloud and sunny spells and a little bit milder with highs tomorrow of 10C to 12C.

“And the outlook will be coming dry and calm with high pressure dominating from midweek, cool by day and cold by night however.”

Tuesday is expected to start out wet, with rain and cloudy conditions but it won’t be here long as dry weather takes ahold.

They said: “Tuesday at the moment it’s looking like it will be a cloudy wet start without breaks of rain.

“However, drier brighter weather will quickly extend from the west. Scattered showers will follow later though, mainly across Atlantic counties and some of those could bring local hail and sleet.

“A cool picture on Tuesday with afternoon highs of 6C to 9C.

“Cold and mostly clear then in the overnight hours with frost and ice.”

Later next week will also see the dry spell continue, despite colder conditions breaking through with frost and ice patches present.

They said: “Each day will be dry with spells of sunshine and just light southeast breezes.

“Rather cool by day and distinctly cold by night however with frost and icy patches setting in nationwide.”
