Ubisoft Take Notes: Mudang Two Hearts Is Exactly the Splinter Cell Remake I’ve Been Dreaming of

Ubisoft hasn’t had the brightest time lately, and the way they’ve been neglecting one of their greatest IPs is deeply hurting my soul. Splinter Cell was their flagship stealth powerhouse, drawing players like moths to flames. Luckily, Xbox came in clutch with Mudang Two Hearts.

A remake of the first Splinter Cell was announced nearly four years ago, but that was it. An announcement with no subsequent updates is just an unfulfilled promise with no development. Typical Ubisoft. Xbox has already stolen their night vision goggles.

Mudang Two Hearts was revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, and it looks like the Splinter Cell remake I’ve been waiting for. What Ubisoft couldn’t do in four years, Xbox did in just an hour.

Mudang Two Hearts promises a tactical stealth experience reminiscent of Splinter Cell

Ubisoft has been developing the remake of Splinter Cell for the past four years, with no new updates forthcoming. Still, my hunger for the remake was satisfied as soon as I laid eyes on the reveal trailer of Mudang Two Hearts at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025.

Developed and published by EVR Studios, Mudang Two Hearts is based on a webtoon called Moodang, and their official website describes it as “an immersive blend of tactical stealth, visceral combat, and cinematic storytelling set on a politically volatile Korean peninsula.”

The game has a complex narrative as it follows a reunification between South Korea and North Korea, but on the day the bill was supposed to pass, a terrorist group attacks the South Korean National Assembly and sends everything spiralling into chaos.

Players assume the role of Ji Jeong Tae — a North Korean special forces operative who’s sent to Korea under the terms of the new bill– and Gavi — a member of a K-Pop group called ORDO and the narrative will be seen from both their perspectives.

A fresh new tactical stealth title, Mudang Two Hearts feels like it was made for fans of Splinter Cell who have been waiting for the remake for ages, like me. The trailer features stealth gameplay and intense combat takedowns that look like it was ripped out of Splinter Cell’s tactical book.

Plus, Mudang Two Hearts’ narrative also feels like a classic Sam Fisher outing, but in a different political context. Regardless of the Splinter Cell similarities, the addition of dual protagonists who are vastly different from each other will add a fresh new flair to the title.

But after looking at the trailer and seeing how much stealth-focused the gameplay is, I can’t help but point out the similarities between the two titles. With no updates on the Splinter Cell remake, the announcement of Mudang Two Hearts is a huge sign of relief, as it’ll keep me busy for the foreseeable future.

Mudang Two Hearts arrives next year exclusively on Xbox and PC

Sorry, PlayStation, but you can’t have it all, as Mudang Two Hearts arrives on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Sure, it doesn’t rule out a potential PS port in the future, but for now, Xbox and PC players get to bake their cake and eat it whole without sharing.

The title is also confirmed to release sometime next year. You know what’s hilarious? The Splinter Cell remake is also rumored to arrive next year, so it’ll be a tactical stealth battle between the two games only if Ubisoft actually decides to do something.

Ubisoft has allegedly been busy with the Black Flag remake, which is great, but come on, give Splinter Cell some remake love, too. Sam Fisher might not be ruling the seas, but he deserves some spotlight, too. Until then, Mudang Two Hearts will fulfil my hunger for tactical stealth espionage just fine.
