New shows tend to take some time to carve their niche and find an audience, and had networks not been patient enough in the past, shows like The Office and Breaking Bad would’ve never reached the heights they did. But in the streaming era, media giants, especially Netflix, tend to play hardball with new shows, which has earned the streamer major flak in recent years.
Dept. Q, starring Matthew Goode, has been the new top-performing entry under the Netflix umbrella, and while a second season hasn’t been greenlit yet, in addition to fans, Goode himself is adamant about jumping off to season 2.
Matthew Goode desperately wants Dept. Q to continue

Based on Jussi Adler-Olsen’s novel series by the same name, the series has pulled impressive viewership with its first season, breaching the top 10 spot in 10 countries, and currently holds an 84% critical score on the Tomatometer. While a season 2 would’ve already been a given in any other case, considering it’s Netflix at the helm, one can’t be certain.
However, the cast unanimously voiced their desire to return to the show, including its lead, Matthew Goode. Having been central to the show’s story, Goode, who got to work with everyone in the show, confessed to having a blast with his co-stars, which is one of the major reasons why they’re desperate to chime in for a season 2.

Goode explained (via Deadline):
I’d wanted to work with Shirley Henderson—‘Shenderson’—for years. And Kelly Mcdonald, and then this fairly relatively new actress, Leah Byrne, who is a revelation in this show. It’s very difficult to be talking about some of the things that she has to talk about and make them hilarious. It’s quite a staggering… Well, it’s writing and talent, where they meet, I suppose. I love them all. That’s why we’re desperate to do a second season.
It’s also important to note that Jussi Adler-Olsen’s crime thriller series has 10 novels, meaning that there is enough material to cement Dept. Q as the next potential biggie under Netflix’s banner.
Matthew Goode teases action-heavy season 2 if greenlit
For the potential season 2, Goode expressed that they’re eyeing to incorporate more physicality into the narrative, especially in regards to Alexej Manvelov’s Akram, whose mysterious past might be explored in the next potential season.
Matthew Goode also highlighted the prospect of getting Manvelov “eight weeks of Krav Maga training” to enhance the action in season 2, gushing, “It’s going to be a sort of Syrian Bourne”.

He told Yahoo UK:
I was saying to Scott the other day, what we really need to do is, A, season 2, and we need to get Alexej into eight weeks of Krav Magar training so the fight scenes in season 2 can be amazing. It’s going to be a sort of Syrian Bourne.
While time will tell what the future holds for Dept. Q, given the show’s reception, followed by showrunner Scott Frank’s history with the streamer, hopefully, a season 2 announcement would be greenlit shortly.
Dept. Q is available to stream on Netflix (USA).
