At times, the animosity between two WWE superstars becomes so intense that fans ask — Why does their rivalry feel so real? This has been the case with CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, whose onscreen rivalry, even though scripted, has blurred the lines between fiction and reality.

But the Scottish Warrior has taken things to a new extreme with Punk. The latest statement from him dropped like a bombshell on the WWE universe as he compared CM Punk to an infamous killer who started an infamous cult responsible for a series of brutal murders.

During a recent conversation with Gorilla Position Podcast, Drew McIntyre made some interesting comments on CM Punk and his ability to charm his colleagues in the WWE and fans alike. McIntyre shared:

He has a Charles Manson-like quality. The way he’s just able to convince people to do his bidding and love him. Even in Scotland. It just has that weird thing that certain people in history have. Dictators and the likes.

These comments came against the backdrop of the fact that Drew McIntyre and CM Punk have developed a dislike for each other as colleagues in the WWE.

The two WWE superstars clashed against each other for the entirety of 2024. Their rivalry spanned from their breathtaking clash at SummerSlam to an intense steel cage match at Hell in a Cell and everything in between.

It was after these heated showdowns that the war of words started. The Scottish Warrior, in the same conversation, stated that the hatred for Punk is genuinely personal and is not restricted to their in-ring storyline.

However, it was his comparison of CM Punk to Charles Manson that sparked the most controversy. The remark quickly became a major talking point, largely due to the deeply disturbing legacy of Manson and the weight such a comparison carries. The backlash was swift, fueled by the extreme nature of the reference and the strong emotions it stirred among fans and critics alike.

One of the most notorious individuals in American criminal history, Charles Manson was a cult leader whose name became synonymous with anarchy and violence. Manson was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 12, 1934, and had a difficult childhood.

He spent a large portion of his early years in and out of reformatories for burglary and theft. After he was released from prison in 1967, his life took a turn for the worse.

After relocating to San Francisco, he attracted a following of loyalists who eventually came to be known as the Manson Family. Manson persuaded his followers to commit a string of horrific killings in August 1969, including the brutal murder of actress Sharon Tate, by preaching a perverse ideology that attempted to instigate a race war.

He conceptualized his ideology by wrongfully interpreting the Beatles song “Helter Skelter”, claiming the song foretold an imminent race war.

The Sharon Tate murder shocked the entire world. According to the Manson followers, they wanted to murder her to shock the world and to ensure that their cult gained popularity. Although Manson denied personal involvement, he was charged with the first-degree murder of Tate, and a death sentence was subsequently given, which was later converted into life imprisonment.

Although Punk has a charismatic presence in the WWE, do you think it was right for Drew McIntyre to compare him to a dangerous cult leader? Do let us know in the comments.
