THREE people have been killed and two others were injured after a boat capsized near Staten Island.
The boat overturned between Brooklyn and Staten Island at around noon on Sunday.
Emergency services scrambled to the scene after a distress call from the vessel.
FDNY, NYPD and the Coast Guard then removed several people from the water and rushed them to a nearby hospital, according to ABC 7.
One of the craft’s occupants called 911 around noon and told cops that the vessel had somehow flipped over in the Ambrose Channel, an NYPD spokesman said.
The fire and police departments are now investigating the incident, along with the US Coast Guard.
Police did not release the name of the boat or details about what may have happened before it capsized.
The Ambrose Channel is the only shipping channel in out and of the Port of New York and New Jersey, according to the US Army Corps of Engineers New York District.
