Veteran Ollywood Actor Uttam Mohanty Passes Away at 66

Uttam Mohanty, the legendary figure in Odia cinema, has passed away at the age of 66 after a prolonged battle with liver cirrhosis. The veteran actor succumbed to his illness at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where he had been undergoing treatment for an extended period. Mohanty’s death has left the entire Odia film industry and his countless fans in deep sorrow, marking the end of an era for Ollywood.

 

Born in 1958 in Baripada, Mayurbhanj, Odisha, Uttam Mohanty’s deep connection with the culture and traditions of his home state played a significant role in his illustrious career. He graduated from MPC College before stepping into the world of cinema, where he quickly became a household name in Odisha. His debut film, Abhiman, marked the start of a career that would span several decades and see him rise to the pinnacle of success in the Odia film industry. In early January, Mohanty was admitted to Medanta Hospital after initially receiving treatment in Bhubaneswar. As his health deteriorated, he was airlifted to Delhi, where he spent 20 days under intensive care. Despite the best medical efforts, he passed away, leaving behind a legacy that has shaped the future of Odia films. The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with tributes pouring in from all corners. Senior politicians, fellow artists, and fans alike have expressed their condolences, remembering Mohanty for both his professional and personal contributions to the world of cinema.

 

Sritam Das, Secretary of the Odisha Cine Artists’ Association, confirmed that Uttam Mohanty’s mortal remains will arrive in Bhubaneswar on February 28, 2025, at around 11 am, where fans and admirers will have the opportunity to pay their final respects. His death marks a significant loss for Ollywood, but his legacy will undoubtedly live on through the films he starred in and the generations of actors he inspired.
