Jhon Duran set for Al-Nassr exit just SIX MONTHS after £70m transfer – but it will cost him millions to return to Prem

JOSE MOURINHO is closing on a deal to sign Jhon Duran — just SIX MONTHS after the striker left Aston Villa for £70MILLION.

Fenerbahce boss Mourinho believes he can wrap up a loan deal to sign Duran from Al-Nassr.

The Colombian, 21, wants to leave Saudi Arabia after fulfilling his dream of playing with his hero, Cristiano Ronaldo.

He has scored 12 goals in 18 games amid reports of bust-ups in Saudi and on international duty.

Villa made a huge profit on Duran, who they signed in a £17.75m deal from Colorado Fire in January 2023.

He scored 20 goals for Villa in 78 appearances, including a winner against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Duran made the switch to Saudi after a prolific first half of the season in the West Midlands.

It followed on from a summer transfer window in which he was almost transferred to West Ham.

Duran had even pulled a ‘hammers’ sign during an Instagram Live before the move collapsed.

And there is no doubt that there would have been Premier League interest in his signature upon leaving Al-Nassr.

West Ham were rumoured to be interested in the striker again but his wages put him out of reach.

However, if he had made a return to England’s top-flight, it could have cost him millions.

This would be in the form of a massive tax bill from the British government

His £320,000-a-week wages were signed on a tax-free basis.

But that would only be honoured if he stays for the first two years of his contract.

Therefore, if he comes back to play in England, he would be hit with a massive tax bill.

Liverpool legend Jordan Henderson faced the same problem when he decided to return to Europe and join Ajax.
