The Nintendo Switch 2 launched yesterday, and gamers flocked to stores to get Nintendo’s next-generation handheld. Given that it’s been almost a decade since the original Switch, it has been a long-awaited launch. But for one content creator, it was just another source of “content.”
YouTuber PlainRock124 was one of the many people to get a Switch 2 at launch yesterday. But instead of going home and booting up a game, the content creator decided to destroy the console right in front of the store in public. And well, he’s now banned from the store and could possibly be banned by Nintendo altogether.
The Switch 2 has already been smashed for content
Known for his Bored Smashing series, YouTuber PlainRock124 decided to turn the Switch 2 launch into content by purchasing the console from Nintendo San Francisco and immediately destroying it on camera just outside the store.

The stunt, which included smashing the device in front of both customers and employees, may have made for viral content, but it also earned him a spot in Nintendo history. Later on social media, he claimed that he was the first individual ever banned from that retail location. And let’s just say we’re not surprised.
PlainRock124 posted a photo of the smashed Switch 2 on his X (formerly Twitter) account, captioned: “Banned from Nintendo San Francisco.” And to quell anyone who would question his words, the YouTuber replied, “Not kidding, they said I was the first person that’s banned from the store.”

Of course, fans online had a varying range of reactions. Do you have any guesses? Well, the first reactions were just people laughing at how ridiculous and over the top the destruction was. But others were quick to criticize the YouTuber for what they saw as an insensitive move during a launch that has already faced an issue of limited stock.
Content creators are really doing just about anything
In case you hadn’t heard of the YouTuber before, PlainRock124 has over 2.5 million subscribers and has built a loyal following through videos in which he dramatically destroys gadgets and tech. His Bored Smashing series has had everything from iPads to game consoles. But did he go too far this time?
This kind of stunt also brings up a topic we’ve seen far too many times in recent times. What are the limits of content creation, and should platforms like Twitch and YouTube draw clearer lines around destructive or wasteful behavior? Especially when it targets scarce consumer electronics during a major product launch.
PlainRock124, for his part, seems unfazed by any negative feedback that he’s received. But who knows, maybe this will start a discussion within Nintendo itself about how to handle public stunts like these in the future. We live in an era where content creators will do almost anything for the sake of “content,” but how far is too far?
