Konami recently revealed Silent Hill f, a new entry to the classic horror franchise. And even with the little details that we have so far, the game is shaping up to be one of the most disturbing entries in the Silent Hill series. On the official webpage, the game has an unusually detailed content disclaimer.

The warning suggests that we’ll be seeing themes of gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, and intense violence. That’s a messed up list for sure, and it’s one that’s new to the franchise itself. Silent Hill f might show us a more grotesque style of horror than the usual psychological.
We could see some gore and even more horror in Silent Hill f

The official disclaimer on the Silent Hill f webpage states that the game will include depictions of gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence. The disclaimer goes so far as to advise players to take breaks if they feel overwhelmed. We might be in for some crazy stuff.
This game contains depictions of gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence. This game is set in Japan in the 1960s and contains depictions based on the customs and culture of that time.
The disclaimer also includes a note that the game does not reflect the views of the developers. This suggests Silent Hill f will explore the darker aspects of Japan’s past, so we might see it be more thematically heavy than previous entries. We could also see a lot more gore and action than before.
These depictions do not reflect the opinions or values of the developers or any individuals involved. If you feel uncomfortable at any point while playing, please take a break from playing or speak to someone you trust.
The game has also gotten an 18+ rating in Japan, something we haven’t seen before in the franchise. We can expect the severity of this rating to hint at just how disturbing the game’s content will be. The horror genre is often ignored in media, but the Silent Hill franchise could redefine it in gaming.
The ESRB description mentions intense sequences of violence, including a character being burned alive, a woman being branded with a hot iron, and a ritual involving facial mutilation. So buckle in, because it might get freaky.
Even the setting of the game looks harrowing

Silent Hill f‘s setting of 1960s Japan is another noticeable change for the franchise. The game takes place in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, a setting we haven’t seen before, but one that promises its own brand of terror. Unlike previous entries, where the horror was a part of the town’s supernatural elements, this game appears to incorporate cultural and societal fears unique to the time period.
The protagonist, Hinako, is described as a girl struggling under the weight of expectations from her family and peers. This suggests that the game’s horror won’t solely come from grotesque monsters but also from the psychological and societal pressures Hinako faces. And if Konami’s disclaimer is any hint, we need to be ready to see some messed up stuff.
We do wonder if Silent Hill f is aiming for genuine psychological horror or shock value. The best entries in the franchise, such as Silent Hill 2, were praised for their subtle, deeply unsettling atmosphere rather than their gratuitous violence. So it is cool to see the studio explore new ground. Let’s just hope the devs pull it off.
The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but we don’t know much beyond that for now. Stay tuned for more!
