As a Lifelong GTA Fan, Watching Every Rockstar Studio Unite for GTA 6 Just Feels Surreal

Over the years, what many fans have failed to notice is that GTA 6’s developer, Rockstar Games, is split into several different studios, all of which are located in different parts of the globe. Moreover, the upcoming GTA title, which is supposed to release next year, is going to be the first game that every single studio under Rockstar will be involved in, making fans wonder just how much manpower is being invested and how amazing the outcome is going to be.

With so much happening at once, for fans of Grand Theft Auto like me, especially those who’ve been there since the pixelated chaos of GTA 2 and Vice City, watching GTA 6 come together feels less like waiting for a game and more like witnessing a legacy being honored at this point.

In the past, Rockstar Games operated more like a constellation. Rockstar North, Rockstar San Diego, Rockstar India, Leeds, Toronto, and others are all working on different aspects of different games. Only major projects like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 have ever called for the collaboration of more than 3-4 studios at once.

So to have 10 different studios work on the game at once feels nothing less than dreamlike, both for fans and the lucky ones who got to work on this decade’s biggest video game title. Pointing out how GTA 6 is being worked on by the whole studio, a user on Reddit posted the following:

GTA VI is going to be the first GTA made by all of Rockstar’s studios rather than just Rockstar North. This game’s scale is going to be unlike any other GTA. RDR2 was just a taste of what the entire company could do together.

The user mentions how Red Dead Redemption 2 was just a taste of what Rockstar could do together if it decides to bring all of its employees together, referring to how the game was the largest project ever done by the studio and was worked on by 1000+ developers, who output a game that became an evergreen hit.

The drawbacks of managing 10 Rockstar studios at once, and its eventual sweet outcome

Imagine this: 10 different random points on a globe with people on all of these points working on the same thing simultaneously. Different languages, different time zones, and many other barriers make a task like building a game intensely difficult.

Fortunately, Rockstar seems to be navigating the waters of this management Pandora’s box quite well for now. While they have had their downs, like the big GTA 6 leaks back in 2022, the positive side is that they get skilled and extensive task-focused developers ready at any time and at any place, all geared up to build the next big thing in the gaming industry.

To give an idea of how extensive GTA 6 is going to be, Rockstar India, a studio with approximately 1600 employees, is allegedly tasked solely with building the Vice Beach area of the map. This proves that the most-awaited game, which has now been unfortunately delayed until next year, is not just baseless hype but an anticipated product of global creativity and people from all backgrounds coming together to build something.
