Who Is ‘Wind Breaker’s Yamato Endo?

To say Wind Breaker is a popular anime would be an understatement. It has its cherished fanbase that includes both readers and viewers. That’s mainly because Satoru Nii brings compelling characters alongside the gripping plot.

One such character is Yamato Endo, who finally appeared in Episode 10 of the anime. CloverWorks gave us a brief glimpse of the character in Episode 3, where he visits KEEL’s base. But things aren’t the same since then.

Now you may wonder who this guy is? What makes him mysterious? There are plenty of questions, but we’ve got you covered. From his role in the anime to his backstory, here’s everything you need to know about Endo.

Wind Breaker finally introduces its antagonist

Up until now, Wind Breaker anime has introduced us to some of the most daunting villains. It all started with Shishitoren, the devotees of power who were eventually defeated by Bofurin. We witnessed their backstories as well.

Then, came KEEL, who targeted Anzai’s best friend, Nagato. They, too, were “purged out” by Bofurin. It was quite satisfactory, too, but GRAVEL’s backstory outlined poverty, hunger, and the need to thrive and strive.

Interestingly, KEEL and GRAVEL have a single common thread, and that is Yamato Endo. He makes his appearance in Episode 10 of the anime, where he mocks both Furin, GRAVEL, and the Roppo Ichiza.

Tsubaki immediately recognizes him, and the episode closes with him commenting on life’s pleasures. The readers sure know what’s to come, especially in the future episodes, so beware, cause there are spoilers ahead!

Endo is a pivotal character in the manga. He is the antagonist and the orchestrator behind the events that occur in the series. The KEEL and the GRAVEL are all his doing, but he plays a major role in the upcoming arc.

Endo’s journey to villainy is quite a complex one. He starts as a prodigy, only to become deeply infatuated by Takiishi. It’s a subversion where the admired becomes the admirer, but it’s twisted, especially with how things pan out.

Satoru Nii used symbolism for each character in his manga. For Sakura, it’s a cat, Choji symbolizes a Lion, and Endo is a serpent. It meshes well with his scheming and cunning persona that stems from his desire to be seen by Chika.

He views Chika as a blazing inferno that can turn everything into a wasteland. If you thought Banjo was twisted, think again! Endo’s obsession catalyzes the events in the Noroshi War Arc, where he flips the Makochi Town upside down.

Oh, the things people do for love! Well, this is deeply warped yet beautiful in the way Satoru Nii develops both characters. Chika is a god and a blazing inferno that can destroy everything.

Endo, on the other hand, is a snake who coils around him. His feelings are a marker of infinite obedience, especially with a cover art representing him bowing down before Chika’s bust. It’s pure poetry in every sense!

As for his role, the character will have an ultimate showdown in future episodes. It isn’t merely a gang war at this rate. The Noroshi War Arc would be a clash of ideologies and a fist fight symbolizing thoughts and feelings.

And we all know one thing by now. Fists are a language, a form of expressing one’s thoughts. It’s only a matter of time before Furin engages in what would be one of the most iconic arcs of the manga, so stay tuned!

Wind Breaker is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is currently available for reading on Kodansha’s K Manga app.
