When we think of the most detested WWE heels in the modern landscape of entertainment wrestling, Dominik Mysterio would emerge as the ideal candidate. The character embraces himself as the bad guy and goes to unimaginable lengths to ensure the hate keeps coming to him.
However, behind all his villainous antics and making a name for himself, one wonders what made him sever his bond with his father, Rey Mysterio. Despite using his father’s name and him as his influence, he seemed to have bitterness simmering for his father for a long time, which surfaced at the 2022 pay-per-view event, Clash at the Castle.
However, it was not sudden because there were 3 major reasons behind his actions that became a major turning point in his career, making him betray his father. Here are 3 reasons that birthed a feud that will last for a generation.
3) Edge not apologizing to Dominik Mysterio after ‘accidentally’ spearing him
The father-son feud sowed its seeds in the summer of 2022, when a returning Edge at Summer Slam, made an unethical assist to the Mysterios, comprising of Rey and Dominik Mysterio, to come out on top against the Judgement Day. Following the PLE, things went sideways on the first Monday Night RAW segment.
The Rated R Superstar accidentally speared Dom while he attempted to thwart an attack from The Judgement Day after they lost their match against The Usos. Next week, Edge confronted Dom and Rey in the locker room, claiming that he has “got their backs,” while a fuming Dominik stared down the 4-time WWE Champion.
The veteran talked to the young star, recalling his action as an “accident,” and asked, “Dom, we cool?” The tension in the room was evident as the two locked their eyes, where he shoved back Edge.
2) Rey Mysterio overlooked his son’s emotions
The tension in the room grew more intense, after Rey Mysterio decided to side with Edge and dismissed his justifiable feelings of hate and resentment, claiming that The Ultimate Opportunist is “familia” and he has known him for 20 years.
To this, his son said that he had known him for “25 years” and he couldn’t believe that his father was taking “his side over mine” and walked away. As a father, The Ultimate Underdog should have taken Dom’s emotions into account as well, asking him not to put him in an emotional dilemma.
1) Chose Edge over his son as a tag partner at Clash at the Castle
As if Edge not apologizing to him, and his father siding with his friend over his son was not enough, Dom’s patience finally ran thin at the 2022 pay-per-view event, Clash at the Castle. The Master of the 619 chose to team up with his old friend Edge over his tag team partner and son, Dominik Mysterio. Thus, making his mind to walk away from his father’s shadow.
After a hard-fought victory, Edge and Mysterio emerged on top against The Judgement Day’s Damian Priest and Finn Bálor, with some assistance from Dominik Mysterio. Post-match, the Young Mysterio decided to shock the Cardiff crowd by savagely kicking Edge below the belt, even giving a clothesline to his father, who attempted to calm him down.
Hence, having rightful reasons of his own that catalyzed his daddy issues and ultimately siding with Mami, and others at The Judgement Day.
